  • Monday 2/5 Squat 25 5x5 OHP 20 5x5 DL 20 1x5 Everything is ridiculously easy, but I feel like I need the encouragement after my disaster last month. Still seem to be struggling with the depth of squat, I'm trying to remember to stretch after the workout, because my legs feel tight when I get low. Wednesday 2/7 Squat BW, 30…
  • Yeah, I actually did a reset weekend, which turned into a reset week, where I ate whatever and did not worry about calories. It was time to change things up and get some energy back. I'm also failing at weights too, I think I started too heavy too fast, but that will benefit from extra calories as well.
  • Monday, workout a: Squat bw, 55, 5x5 Bench 50, 5x5 Row 70 5,5,5,3,3 Failed on row the last two sets, and even before, I don't think I was getting the full Rom. I'm just not strong. The next day, I experimented with rows, starting at the empty bar (20lbs). I found that at 40lbs, I had full Rom, but at 50lbs, I couldn't get…
  • I've chosen to take a break from running, I'm focusing more on strength training now. I just felt tired all the time, and think about running made me more exhausted. I'm still going to walk a couple times a week, I'm taking my dog and chose a new route, and I'll slowly work back to running, in a few weeks, but hopefully…
  • Ran a 5k last weekend, finished c25k 3 or 4 weeks ago. I chose one I could do with my dog and did c25k with her. It was great except for when she got scared by something and ran under my feet so I stepped on her, and then stepped on her again trying to jump over her. Silly dog!
  • Had my first workout A Tuesday: Squat 5x5 45lbs Bench 5x5 45lbs Row 5x5 65lbs Struggled with it a lot more than I was expecting, but bench was easy. Had major leg pain that still lingers today. Workout B Thursday: Squat 5x5 50lbs OHP 5x5 45lbs DL 1x5 95lbs Legs were still sore from Tuesday, but the heavier squats actually…
  • I was thinking of doing this, but I don't know what the "correct" height is. How do I find the right height for me?
  • I'd be foam rolling as part of a warm up, like the agile 8 series and similar routines.
  • I don't have anything to add, but I like your profile pic! Dumbo blue?
  • Yeah, I know what sl5x5 is, but I know that people will alter the program to fit them, so I was wondering if anyone had started with less weights, or chosen a different progression.
  • More! Lol, just reached the end of reading this thread.
  • Backed off on my running a little due to a bunch of hot days. I have a shepherd mix dog. She has long fur and is about 10 years old, so I try to be careful with her. She's small though, only about 36 (overweight) lbs, so she's nowhere near the size of a full shepherd. I've been taking her on my long walk/runs last couple…
  • Guess it's time for another update... Did well this month. My shoulder healed fast, so that was no problem. I've been faithful to the SL program, and I've increased all my weights by 10lbs (2.5lbs a week). My starting weight was only 12lbs, so all the lifts have been really easy, to say the least. I've been lifting 2x a…
  • Great job! I live in southern California, so my most common excuse especially in the summer is it's too hot! You have to know what your foibles are and how to get around them!
  • 4.06 miles in 1:10:05. 59 minutes of running, breaks every 18 minutes. I got out earlier today, so even though it was hot, it didn't feel like capital punishment. I also liberally slathered on the sunscreen before I went out. I was sweating white streaks, but at least I didn't get burnt like on Monday. My family has an…
  • I was 240 when I began the c25k, and I managed to complete it. I'm still around 220, and I'm now on week 12 of a 10k program. I run rather slow, less than 4 mph, averaging 17-18 minutes per mile. But it is running, not jogging. When I first started, my running pace was about 19-20 minutes per mile. I haven't done any…
  • I did my race on Saturday. It was a 5k in 48:17, which is a pb for me. I was 11 out of 13 in my distance group. We started out real fast, and I kept having to slow down to my normal pace before I wore myself out. I could tell I was too fast when I couldn't get my breathing under control. When I'm running, I breathe harder…
  • Is yours a glow in the dark 5k? Glow sticks? That sounds fun! Mine is an ultra-casual, run along the beach type thing. I'll be running on a bike trail with the sea in sight. I'm hoping between the early morning time and the nearby ocean, it will be quite cool, since I tend to get my best times during colder weather. I…
  • I agree with going slow. I completed c25k a couple weeks ago, now working on 10k program, and I still run at about 3.5mph (or slower). There's no way I can do 5k in 30 minutes. It takes me an hour when I go out to run my 5k practice runs. And I'm cool with that. Speed will come in time. Eventually I'll aim for that 30…
  • So far doing good on both 1 and 2. Pulled a muscle in my shoulder at work, so debating whether to keep working out since my weights are less than 20lbs, or give it a rest. The muscle feels more tender than actually sore, so I might try it and see how it feels. Still running 3x/week. Been loving that. My 5k is this weekend.…
  • Thanks for your advice and encouragement! I'm not worried about my speed right now, I'm just trying to build a running base. I did 3.88 miles in 1:08:18 today. Following the 10k app it was 56 minutes of running, taking a walking break every 17 minutes. Felt good through most of it but was pretty tired by the end. Warm and…
  • I'm starting to lift, and also take my dog for a walk. Eventually I plan to incorporate her into my runs, but for now I'm starting her off slowly so she can catch up to me. I also work 5 days a week, and I tend to get about 6-7 miles a day at work.
  • I already graduated c25k, but according to my app, I walk at about 2.5-3.0 and run at 3.0-3.5. Going slow and finishing is better than going fast and burning out early. I'm now working on a 10k program, and still having to remind myself to run slow in order to finish my runs.
  • Ran today after walking 7 miles at the zoo. 3.39 miles in 1:02:02. It was a little slower, but not too bad considering how far I walked earlier in the morning. My phone started the run at 26% battery, and ended at 4%. I felt I was racing my phone, trying to finish my run before the battery died. I find that I am starting…
  • I've been absent from here for a while, so my goals are pretty simple: 1. Start SL again 2. Do weights 2x/week At least I kept up with the running, so I'm also running 3x a week, now working on a 10k program since I graduated c25k a week ago.
  • I workout at home. The basic stuff I use is a barbell, weight bench and squat/bench rack. I lift super light (my bar is only 12lbs, and I only go up 2.5lbs a week). Even though I do light weights, having the squat rack, which doubles as a bench press for me as well, makes things so much easier. As for weights, I started…
  • Yeah, I found that eating after I eat makes a big difference and keeps me from crashing. I'm lactose intolerant, so chocolate milk is out for me. I can do whey protein though, and small amounts of yogurt. Cheese either is really bad for me, or doesn't affect me depending on what kind it is. The protein and carbs after…
  • I'm 217, and was 235 when I began the C25k program. I graduated last week and am now working on the 10k program. My advice is to run slowly. Start off slower, and then go slower. It's more important to get miles on your feet than to go fast and burn out. You can actually run slower than you walk. Also, get yourself fitted…
  • I looked over my deficits over the last couple weeks, and my average deficit was 500, on top of the 250 that was already calculated into my calorie allowance. I have realized it was quite that large. I'm certainly going to eat more. Thanks for the good advice!
  • W9D2. 3.15 miles in 1:00:04. I was sore yesterday from running too hard on Monday, so I took it easy today. Still 45 minutes of running. I felt good all the way through it. I met the lady who I board my horse with riding her horse. We were on opposite sides of the street so we didn't stop to chat. This is the first time…
