Starting Over Advice
I fell off the fitness wagon about a year ago, I'm getting back to it now. I've been running for a few months, but I'm ready to switch it up and make weights my main exercise. I've played with sl before but never got far because I'd always try to "improve" the program. This time I decided to just follow sl exactly as it…

Feb Daily, again and again! (And again and again...)
I was trying to go for a groundhogs day theme, you know that movie with Bill Murray? Anywho... Friday workout A Squats 20 5x5 Bench 20 5x5 Rows 20 5x5 After failing spectacularly on everything my last workout, I decided just to start over with the bar weight. That's what I did in the past, and I got much better results,…

Lacking Motivation, what do I do?
I completed the c25k program 1.8 times (had a non running-related injury that caused me to do a mini reset), started the b210k program, ran a 5k last weekend, but I'm really lacking motivation to run. It's hard for me to get up in the morning and step out the door. Today I was supposed to do 4.2 in the b210k program, and I…

Flex question when pushing
Since the Flex is worn on the wrist, does it still log steps when you're pushing something, and your wrist doesn't move? Things like strollers, wheelchairs, etc? Most of my work is pushing wheelchairs, stretchers and hospital beds around, and it seems to me my step count tends to be low. I used to get a much higher average…

Foam rolling
I tried foam rolling, but I found that the body weight motions were too hard for me. Not only could I not support myself, but the pressure of my 200+lbs coming down on the roller was intensely painful, and not in a good way. Are there variations that don't involve having to support my body weight? Maybe rolling a dumbell…

Starting/Current weights
Just curious, what weights were your first lifts, how much are you lifting now, and how long did it take you to get there? And how much do you generally increase at a time?

What is your weekly weight loss goal?
When I read posts on the forum, it seems like a lot of people have their weight loss set to 2lbs a week, which seems really high to me. I'm a big girl, 5'5" @240lbs, and I have mine set to .5 loss per week. By having the slower rate of loss, I get a lot more calories to work with, and I'm not quite so disappointed if I…

Running and Nutrition
I have a question about running and nutrition. I try to start every morning with protein. On days that I run I usually have a protein shake and a breakfast sandwich. I've going through the c25k program and am starting a 10k program this week. Whenever I run, I always go 3 miles total distance. Only the first part of it is…

What was your AHA! moment?
After starting and stopping the c25k program several times, I'm finally in week 7, and about to graduate next week. When I first started, I would have sworn I could never run for as long as I do now. However, for the last three weeks, I've known I could do it. Since day 1 of week 4, I've had no fear when it comes to…

Running in the rain
For those that use their phones/electronic devices to track their runs, what do you do when it rains? Is there a trick to making sure your phone stays dry, or do you leave it at home? Water proof case? Ziplock baggy? Also, are there any dangers of running in the rain besides the obvious about getting cold and lightning…

Chicken Help Please
Hi, I haven't posted here before, but I am just starting to cook my own foods. I used to buy microwave meals and just shove them in my lunch bag, but I'm trying to be healthier, so I'm slowly branching out into the realm of home-cooked meals. Right now I'm focusing on meat-veggie type meals. I typically try to make 5-10…

iPod Touch
Does anyone use an iPod Touch to record their runs? Does it even work like that? Here's my issue: all my songs/audiobooks/podcasts/anything-I-ever-want-to-listen-to-while-I'm-running are all on iTunes, BUT I have an Android phone. I've been thinking about getting an ipod touch just for running, but I don't know if it will…

Chain came off the gears while riding today!
Anyone good with bike maintenance? My chain came off the gears today when I tried to switch to first gear. It's a 7gear bike with only one front gear, so I know it wasn't because I was in the wrong cross-gear. Any idea why the chains came off, how to stop them from coming off, and how to put them back on again?

StrongLifts Questions
Hi, I'm new to stronglifts. I haven't started yet, I read the summary and the FAQ and I still have some questions. I'm 27yo, 5'5" 240lbs. My job keeps me pretty active (average 9k-12k steps/day, without outside exercise), and I'm training for a 5k in June. I'm planning to start c25k at the end of February when I start…

Weights Advice
I'm looking for some advice on how many sets/reps I should be doing, and when to increase my weights. I am a 27yo 5'5" 240lbs female. I've been doing at least 30 minutes of weights 3 times a week for about 6 weeks now. I have 8 different exercises that I've been doing with the weights. Because women typically have less…

Cycling
Walking is my main form of exercising, but I'm starting C25K, and I want to start cycling to cross train on off days. I haven't been on a bike for probably over ten years. I got myself on a bike and went on a brief trip up and down my street to see how it was. It was very hard for me! I rode for less than 1 mile (from one…

Looking for books about angels
I just finished reading Meljean Brook's Guardian series and absolutely loved it. Now I'm looking for any other books that feature angels or similar creatures in them. I'm interested in the paranormal side rather than a religious aspect. Thanks!

Any Harry Dresden fans out there?
I've been a fan since just before Turn Coat came out, and I've been to see Jim several times at signings. LOVED Skin Game! Anyone else?

Any Larger People out there using the Zip?
The reason I question this is because my Zip registers a lot of extra steps for me, like 64 just transferring it to a different pair of pants. And when I wore it on my bra, it registered over 80 steps when I only took like 12. I suspect it's because my fat jiggles when I walk, causing the extra steps to be logged. Does…

Nike Air Monarch IV
I got these shoes for work because they're super padded, but what do you think of them for running shoes? Does anyone else use this kind? Would there be a problem with me using the same shoes for working and running?

Feeling Discouraged
I'm in my 5th week of my running program (not c25k, easier than that) and I'm having issues. This week I'm running 1.5 minutes and walking 1.5 minutes, repeated 8 times. I am able to complete it without a problem, but I don't feel good when I'm running. I don't mean I feel out of breath or sick. I'm running so slow in…

Pre-logging food and eating your calories
When I'm planning my food for the day, I like to log it on my phone. After it gets logged, I put it into my lunch bag, and whenever I get hungry, I reach into the bag for something to eat. Since I already logged the food in, I think of it as "free" food. Once everything is logged, I look at how many calories I have and if…

Doggy Dash Cause for Paws
My mom and I are signing up for a 5k in September. I'm really nervous about it, but at least I get to bring my dog! My only concern is that I want to run the course, but my mom will be most likely walking it instead. How do I tell her that I want to push for running instead of walking? She has a much worse fitness level…

How far do you run?
I'm not on the C25K yet, I'm still building up a basic fitness base before I attempt it, but I am doing my own interval running. It's the same principle as the C25K, just shorter running and longer walking. Anyway, I noticed that during my first week of running (30 seconds running, 2.5 minutes walking, repeat 8 times with…

What do you run with?
I used to run with just my phone to mark distance and intervals, and a 1l bottle of water. Lately I've been experimenting with bringing my dog and some music along. I'm not sure I liked the music part, but the dog part was pretty fun, so I'll bring her again. However now that I'm starting to get into some longer (for me)…

Mare Issues
Okay, so I recently moved my mare from a really run-down stable where she was by herself to a new stable where she is in a paddock with two other geldings. The problem is that she just went through her first cycle with them, and she was very aggressive toward the one gelding. She wasn't attacking, she was just pushing her…

New Here
Hi, I just joined this group and thought I'd introduce myself. I am a 26yo female, 5'5" and 230lbs. I have a 9yo Quarter-mix mare, she's 14:2 hands and about 800lbs. I am of course worried about being too fat to ride her, so I only go riding about once a month, and only for 20-30 minutes at a time. I only do easy trails…
