Thanks Walter. I tend to either do far too much....... or nothing at all...... and then I beat myself up and lose focus..... not this time round.

I definately agree. Do not stretch muscles that are cold. You must must must must stretch out those calve muscles once you have finished your walk. Stretch out the bottoms of your feet too. I ignored doing so and ended up with Plantar Fasciitis. The Planter tendon starts in your calf and extends all the way underneath your…

Sara... to be honest, I am still trying to figure out what my macro split should be. From a training perspective, I lift 3 x a week, do cardio (swimming 3 x week and eliptical 3 x week). I am 5'4" SW: 163.2 CW: 147.2 (however, after the indulgences over the past 4 days, that could be wrong) GW: 132 Lbs.... so I don't have…

Thanks Sabine! I'll check it out.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I think as long as the "carb choices" or "source of carbs" is coming from fruit and veg as opposed to bread and pasta, I should be right on track. Thanks!
-
Thanks for that. So is this statement in fact untrue: "Most, if not all veggies are carbs, however, not all veggies are starch. "
-
So would it be safe to say.... avoid starchy veg such as tuber's etc. and then ignore the carb number if one is only eating green and orange veg as a source of carbs?

I'm impatient! I was really bummed after gaining a bit this week and really just wanted to try and understand why. I think I've got it figured. Thanks so much for your input and "stretching" me to think.

Yep. I know it's not a lot... but those 85 (595 a week) seem to like my butt!

Perhaps it is better to look at the actuals: MFP = 1200 + 574 Exercise cals(5 x a week) = 1774 x 5 = 8870 + 1200 x 2 = 2400 = Grand Total of 11270 (Daily net is 1200) This is what I put into iifym: Age 44 Female 5'4" Weight 147.8 Lbs Exercise 5 x / Week TDEE -20% = 1525 x 7 = Grand Total of 10675 (10675 - 2870 exercise =…

I'm still a bit confused.... let's use this scenario: TDEE is say 1525 which includes exercise 5 x per week MFP is set at say 1100 without exercise. Say I exercise 5 x a week, and burn 700 cals per session. On TDEE I still only eat a max of 1525 cals, whereas on MFP I would be expected to eat 1100 + 700 = 1800 Total. Total…
-
At least with TDEE, you max calorie goal is not determined with how many exercise cals you burn that you try and eat back.
-
What I DO find interesting is that my TDEE - 20% is 1525, and if we just ignore the net for the moment, I see that the weeks where I exceeded 1525 total cals (except once), the weight went up. Perhaps I should work with TDEE instead.
-
Thanks for the feedmack MyJourney, I appreciate it. However, on those days where my total cals were in the region of 1466, 1339, 1577, 1277, my net was under 1100 cals.

It sure looks like it.

The BEST investment I have ever made was getting a Heart Rate Monitor. Your data is personalized based on your sex, age, weight, etc. so the number of calories burned is a lot more accurate. I went the extra mile and purchased a HRM that has a waterproof transmitter and receiver so I can also use it when I swim.

I'm so glad you posted this! My start weight was the same as yours and I'm 5'4". I have lost 15.4Lbs in the past 75 days and have another 15.6Lbs to go to reach my goal weight, which is around your new goal weight. Seeing your progress pictures gives me so much hope. THANK YOU and well done! :flowerforyou:

I'm greedy... I love to do both, cardio & lifting. Just this weekend I was helping my husband carry something and he remarked on how nice my arms, back & shoulders are starting to look...... needless to say, he earned a treat.

Ummmmm.... so chicken then?

And I farted by mistake..... :blushing:

Absa...bloody...amaaaazing! Your whole body has changed. Well done, you're inspiring us all.

Any other "analysts" out there?

Super Duper! I  having friends. Just a little about me. I did a sprint triathlon last year and no sooner had I finished, I packed on the weight. I am back down to where I was this time last year, but still have a bit to go. I am still trying to figure out my eating plan and have only averaged net cals of 1074…

Now that makes perfect sense to me. There is a lot of information out there and so many differing opinions, it is hard to find one's "personal groove" at the beginning of the journey. I'm only just starting to figure out how my body is reacting now. I'm going to stick with my plan for the next week, so I can track the…

Yes, I've started doing this.... and it does help.

Interesting indeed. Thanks, I will have a read and digest.
-
Sorry.... just another problem I'm having. When I increase my calories, I have a huge battle trying to stay within my Macros. I also have to keep a watchful eye on Cholestrol as mine is very high even though I am on statins. Eggs seem to be my enemy.

Thanks so much for the reply. I think since I have changed my macros by cutting carbs and increasing protein, I definately CAN eat more. I'll try the 1100 net for the next week with the new macros and see how I go. If the loss is too great, I will increase to 1200 net.
