  • Thanks for your post and I'm reading it because the universe is wanting me to be aware of something important. Since I was very young I learned to be the emotional garbage can for people in my life, hell even strangers too. When I allowed people to dump all their baggage in my presence, I felt is was my purpose to help fix…
  • In the USA I type all my natural foods with USDA after it. For example "raspberries USDA", Chicken breast USDA, Banana USDA. It will give you grams as a measurement and that's how I measure natural foods. ----your friendly dietitian
  • A slice of Costco pizza at the food court is about 700 calories !!!!! WTF??? How? I haven't eaten a slice since I found out the calories years ago. SOOOO not worth it. I'll go for gourmet pizza any day than that Costco slice. UGGGGH
  • I bring a little Tupperware type container that holds 1 cup (8oz). It has a lid so when I'm out and use it at a restaurant or whatever, it won't get my purse all gross. Make one meal every day that is veggies or salad only and have your dressing on the side, ALWAYS. Bento boxes are awesome for measuring your portions too.…
  • What's the alternative?
  • I saw my shadow on the road as I biked last weekend. I liked what I saw even standing up while I pedaled. I would always look away if I passed a store front with big reflecting windows. Now I love those damn windows :) ---your friendly dietitian
  • JUST FOR TODAY: I will not rely on a glass of wine to change my mood. I will exercise instead, cuz that's the biggest stress buster ever :) but I really, really, really want to drink my wine and luckily there's no more at home and my favorite wine is sold 1/2 hour drive from my house and I'm too lazy to go there and get…
  • 121 x 4 = 484 calories (protein). 48x9=432 (fat). 238x4= 952 (carbs). Grand total 1868. ---your friendly dietitian
  • This post really made my day. Laughing at all the comments as I type this. I hate Dr. Oz. Most other dietitians feel the same way. He's such a snake-potion charlatan and I'm constantly correcting people and their crazy logic. Don't get me started on alkaline water. Please! I'm saddened and amazed how gullible people can be…
  • #1- Continue logging so I can see 500 day streak. 41 days to go #2- Resist the urge for drinking wine when I get home from work. The holidays started a nasty behavior pattern that needs broken asap #3- Log accurately, even after I get home from work. Been slacking on this part of my day for a while. Scale is creeping up…
  • Maintaining weight is just as exhausting mentally as losing weight. Nothing worth having comes easy. I have come to the huge realization that I have a chronic disease called obesity and food addiction and every day I will manage it. Your friendly dietitian
  • I use a cooler bag too with a frozen gel pack, but only when I'm at work. If I'm hiking and need healthy snacks/lunch here's what i bring: *edamame or other beans that I've seasoned and put chopped red pepper, onions, carrots mixed in *protein bars (find ones under 200 cals) *pasta salad with veggies (use light italian…
  • Yippeeeee for you!!!!
  • There's really only 1 thing and that's because I didn't know how many calories it has...now I do. Costco pizza from the food court. A slice of cheese pizza there has over 700 calories. If I'm gonna blow 700 calories, I'll do it on pizza that's way gourmet than that one. Balance is the key in moderation. You need to eat,…
  • I say stay strong to your own healthy habits. I have many meetings at work and they are always catered. I bring my own lunch. People are inspired by my nutritious foods and commend me on my dedication. If you had to follow a strict diet (Kosher, vegan, gluten free, diabetic, etc) bringing your own lunch would be expected.…
  • BTW...CONGRATS on losing 85 POUNDS!!! That's 297,500 calories you've burned. AMAZING! Don't forget how hard you've worked for your accomplishments.
  • So many people struggle with this. They are great "dieters", but horrible "maintainers". Wanna know the secret to success? Change your brain. Think of yourself like an addict who is in recovery. Does an alcoholic say, "hey, I've been sober for 6 months now and I can go right back to drinking but just on the weekends."…
  • So HAPPY FOR YOU! Bite by bite, day by day you'll make it. Just never, ever give up. When you do, we're all here to help! Your friendly dietitian
  • Oh yeah, I forgot a good one: Sometimes, especially with women, you may not see the change in weight for 2 weeks. Expect that, ok? We are hormonal creatures and women should weigh themselves daily to notice the fluid fluctuations that happen even overnight. I've noticed on my journey that I'd track religiously for a solid…
  • Never give up. Allow yourself to "ease up" on logging religiously, but only allow it for a week or so. Get some professional help to figure out why you chose food as a coping tool. The reason why diets never work is because feelings cannot be logged in MFP...LOL Seriously, when we fix our heads, the rest is a cinch.---Your…
  • The cause of your binging is what needs more focus...not WHAT you are eating. Something in your head is telling you to eat...figure out how to quiet this voice. Only a mental health professional can get you through this. ---Your friendly dietitian
  • When I go on vacation I still log...but I know for certain that it won't be accurate. I like your idea of hiking and walking a lot to help burn off those extra tasty calories. The stinker about gaining weight on vacations is that it seems doubly hard to get them off once you return. I'm still working on the 6lbs I gained…
  • If you are a food addict and can't stay away from your trigger foods, my opinion is that the household HAS to help you through this. I am a food addict. My hubby loves junk food and lots of it, so I gave him my list of my 5 trigger foods that simply can't be in my house. If they are, he has to lock them in a briefcase that…
  • Drink water..I know it doesn't make sense, but water follows water. I am the bloating queen and can gain 3-5lbs during ovulation then again before my cycle. Sometimes I get bloated AFTER my cycle instead of the week prior. Being a girl sucks sometimes. Wait until you're in your mid 40's, you really enjoy the great effects…
  • We make it our second nature to eat healthy foods and log them somehow. You check your bank account to see how much money you have, right? We are dedicated to our health and managing our chronic disease called OBESITY. I lost 50lbs my first year of my new lifestyle. It was HARD!! The second year I plateaued because I…
  • I miss the thicker higher quality material of plus-sized t-shirts. WTH is this "slubbed" garbage? It's all see-thru and looks like it was a hand-me-down from 1962. I also miss the feeling of being part of the fat girl "norm". They (and my former self) would eat for pleasure and then cheer each other up after a gluttonous…
  • Dark rum and Walmart brand diet soda (pineapple coconut flavored). Add fruit of your choice. I personally love a few frozen blueberries in it. I also use the cherry limeade diet soda from Walmart too with my rum.
  • Opa yogurt salad dressings now make a veggie dip. It's super tasty just like the dressings. Another one is not new I'm sure, but fairly new to me: Kroger brand carbmaster yogurts. (Purchased at Ralph's if you are in Caifornia). The vanilla is the best. Only 60 calories and more protein than Yoplait light. Mmmmm. I make a…
  • Hold on, let me pick up my jaw off the floor so I can type. Oh--My--God!!! You are adorable and so petite now:) I'd give you a big hug if you were in my presence. The look on your face is enough to explain how happy you are with your accomplishments. WAY TO GO SISTAH!!
  • Most people think that the only sources of potassium come from fruits and veggies. One chicken breast has about 1100mg. Protein foods like beef, chicken, pork, fish all have abundant potassium. In the healthcare field, we don't see patients diagnosed with hypokalemia unless in is caused by medication (potassium-depleting…
