I had terrible oedema in late pregnancy, I looked like I had elephant legs, too. I'm afraid nothing really worked for me - though resting and elevating legs helped it not to be worse. It reversed itself after the baby was born.

Also being ill. I'm currently not weighing myself because I have the flu and I know I am probably retaining a lot of water. Water retention just is. You have to be zen about it.

I don't have one, but my impression from researching them is that there is a big difference between brands. Some are not much better than a fan oven, others are noticeably better. So research the specific model you're thinking of going for. I've decided not to get one in the end, as I don't have space for it and I don't…

Your hard work = maintenance, which is an achievement in itself, and a heck of a lot better than getting heavier. If you give up, that is what will happen, don't kid yourself. And there is nothing good at the end of that road. You may well not need this dietitian, as you are clearly able to maintain and probably do not…

Just to add, in case anyone is wondering "what about salt?" - even if you're a salt junkie, the concentration in your food is too low to materially affect the density. Even sea water is only 2.5% more dense than fresh, and sea water is, proverbially, far too salty to drink.
-
I weigh most liquids and generally just assume the density is the same as water, because for most drinkable liquids, it is. The only things which are going to make a drinkable liquid a different density are fat (makes it lighter), alcohol (lighter) and sugar (heavier). Fibre, eg in smoothies or soup, is more or less…

You are only 4kg above the healthy weight range, so you don't have much to lose. Usually if you are close to goal you need to lose weight at a slower rate to make it sustainable. Have you entered your stats into myfitnesspal to see what its calorie recommendation is? 1400 calories may be a bit low for you, especially with…

Yes, there's definitely more than an ounce of cheese on a restaurant omelette!

All the "naturally thin" people I know (my husband and all my in-laws) genuinely don't want food if they're not hungry. That's the main difference I notice. They also get antsy when they have eaten a lot, and want to get up and go for a long walk or something. It's not necessarily the same day, might be the following day,…

The real point to take away from this is that there's no need to drink plain water and you can really drink anything you want as long as it fits your calories and other health goals. The message that plain water is necessary is really just to encourage people to avoid high calorie drinks - it's not an absolute rule. What…

It happens. Log it, don't beat yourself up, keep going.

I really like Half Size Me. Great interviews with people who have succeeded or who are in progress, and she talks a lot of sense. She was morbidly obese and has maintained her loss for years, so she knows what she's talking about.

Anecdotally, I didn't see a big difference when I went onto propranolol. I'm a fairly lazy, hungry person anyway and I didn't notice a big increase in that. The initial side effects - shortness of breath and chest tightness with exertion - did make exercise harder to start with, but I adapted and now exercise feels normal.…

Certain specific items on Wagamama's menu. I had ramen there once and it was under 500cal for a massive vat of food, so I went again and had a different, but very similar to the untrained eye, ramen bowl. Nearly 1000cal. I thought it was a mistake on the website! So be warned. Wagamama can be amazing value calorie wise, or…

Potatoes. They do not have more calories than sweet potatoes - they're about the same. It's a huge myth.

Cold water sometimes makes me queasy, especially first thing in the morning. I'm not sure why but I'm pretty sure it has more to do with temperature than anything. I have reflux so it may be related. I generally prefer hot drinks, eg herbal tea, I find that's more comfortable if my stomach is feeling delicate.

I work this by eating less during the week and more at weekends so that I hit my goal as an average over the week, not every day. But I also make sure my goal is not too restrictive, and I do exercise more on weekends. Are you logging the weekend binges? That's a crucial part of the learning process. Once you've had to…

If there are any added ingredients in the shrimp it will be listed on the packaging. If none, it is just shrimp.

@RamboKitty87 is right, a lot of people are getting the message that drinking huge amounts of water is necessary to weight loss (it isn't) and that water is harmless/ more is always better (not true). Please, people, be careful where you get your information. Be a sceptic. Don't accept every tip as gospel. Most nutrition…

Many frozen foods are exactly that (though they may be blanched or fully cooked first).
-
In the UK many foods have nutrition listed by serving, but that's optional - the standard requirement is nutrition per 100g (as in the rest of Europe). Makes it so easy to compare nutrition between different products, as everything is basically a percentage by weight. 'Servings' are not massively helpful.

I also love peanuts but seem to have got a handle on that now, I can portion them out and stop, unlike with the puffy snacks. Not sure what makes the difference (if I worked that out I'd be several steps further along the path)
-
I also have trouble with breakfast cereals, such as Frosties, any granola involving chocolate, and of course, Crunchy Nut Cornflakes, which everyone knows contain some kind of narcotics. ETA I don't actually abstain from these things, as banning things just makes them more appealing to me. I limit my access to them.

The entries in the database will not help you with this as it varies from place to place whether the carbs listed on the label are net of fibre, or include fibre. I think the USA is pretty unusual in including fibre in the carbs total on nutrition labels. European labels certainly don't. So the database entries will be a…

Bacon flavoured puffy snacks. Definitely for special occasions only.

Yes, mayo in particular is an absolute shocker. We tend not to think about it, it gets ladled around freely as if it were a reasonable thing to stuff into your face in quantity. It's not. If we think of the calories at all, I think most people assume it's somewhat similar to cream (~40% fat by weight) but in fact it is far…

Well, don't worry about telling us any of this. At the end of the day, we don't know who you are. Sometimes people vent online, and it doesn't do any harm in the long run.

Why resurrect a zombie thread to say this, rather than post your own? Though i must say, it does contain some rather thrilling examples of what happens when I'm presented with woo while in a bad mood. I'm quite frightened of myself.

I've never heard of fungus not being vegan. That would be inconvenient.

You could also try just tossing the pasta with garlic butter and parmesan and adding the cooked chicken etc.
