Not all exercise is the same. I hate some exercise (eg circuits, running, cardio machines) but love others (eg walking, cycling). Try out as many different types of exercise as you can until you find one you love. If you love it, it's much easier to make time.

That's what I have as well - orthotic insoles. None of the ones you buy are the equal of getting them made to measure, and if you buy the wrong ones you could make it worse.

I'd get a doctor to look at it in case it's something like sciatica.

One thing that does help is Restless Leg Syndrome. Also having short stubby legs, so that sofas and armchairs are not that comfortable. Neither of these are for sale, unfortunately. I would put my twitchy legs on eBay like a shot if I could.

I wear glasses and get annoyed if they get water on them, so wearing a cap to keep the rain out of my face makes a big difference to me. I'm thinking of getting a waterproof one, but for now I just use a normal baseball cap.

Basil and cheese bread? I'd chop it through the bread, don't put it on top like rosemary, or it'll get burnt. I'd also make a few batches of pasta/pizza sauce.

One of mini-me's favorite meals is tortillas with various fillings - I'll put out shredded meat, grated cheese, plain yogurt and various sliced vegetables and condiments, and everyone takes what they like and makes up their own wrap. It's relaxed and lets kids control their own meal while also letting them get interested…

True. Mind you, in many parts of Italy they serve cold meat and pickles (antipasti) first, then the pasta and the meat as two separate courses, so you can just skip one course out of three. Easier than when it all comes on one plate. There have been a number of things that have helped me, but I remember when I was referred…

There are two different approaches, broadly: TDEE: This includes an allowance for exercise, so you eat the same amount every day. NEAT: This does not include exercise, so you need to track your exercise and eat extra to make up for it. Myfitnesspal is NEAT by default, so its calorie goals will look much lower than other…

Are you sure you're eating enough? You're aiming to lose a relatively small amount, so you shouldn't be aiming to lose any more than half a pound a week. Binges and excessive tiredness (like the "wiped out" feeling and nausea you describe) often go together with undereating. Make sure you are giving your body the…

The other thing is that as you get lighter and your weight loss slows down, water weight fluctuations and scale errors become more noticeable as the fat loss each week is less. So if you still have 100lb left to lose, you might be losing 2lb of fat a week, and even supposing you get fluctuations of 1 or 2lb, you will still…

But not everyone is the same. People are different heights, weights, ages, sexes and activity levels. You can't just take the calories prescribed for you and generalise that it's enough for everyone. Especially as you're a woman over 50 - your calorie needs are probably a lot lower than most. And you haven't even mentioned…

Those two examples have nothing whatever to do with each other, though. Portion sizes increasing is a big problem, a contributing factor to obesity, and a hindrance to those of us trying to lose/control our weight. Something should totally be done about that. Clothing sizes getting bigger is just a necessity, though. It…

It's just a question of changing how you look at it. Traditional dieting wisdom says that the bigger the deficit, the better - so by that logic, you exercise a lot and eat very little. But we now know that that is problematic in a number of ways, and that you are more likely to see long term success if you keep your…

Oh, I've never come across that product, I don't think you can get it here. I'm guessing the psyllium in it must be quite a small amount, or else already rehydrated in the mix before you eat it.

I didn't know you could bake with metamucil. Isn't that a little risky? I mean, if you don't drink a big glass of water with the cookies, they could clog you right up. (ETA I'm assuming metamucil is basically the same as other psyllium/isphagula products, which are usually made up with a lot of water before taking them).

If you only look at the bottom line, true, but what's confusing is that it's arriving at that number by applying a negative amount of exercise. I can see how that sort of makes sense where an activity tracker is involved and it's been a lazy day - but it's far from intuitive!

This looks familiar to me. In my case it's loose skin due to having been pregnant, which means the fat under the skin doesn't cling tight to my belly, it sags downwards and makes my belly button look lower than it actually is. Have you been pregnant? I'm hoping it might tighten up once I lose more weight, but I'm not…

Similar to this, I pack a box of food for work. Anything in that box, I eat. I don't generally eat anything else. It's not a hard and fast rule, I'll vary it, eg for free cake, but in general I stick to it and it works well.

For the record, meat cooked this way usually tastes good, despite its horror-movie appearance. Gravy is your friend! Alternatively, you can brown it after the fact, under the grill/broiler or in a hot oven. If it has a good fat cap it will brown up beautifully and taste great.

I woke up very early one day during a very stressful period of my life and decided that i must Do Something Useful - and what I really needed to do was make soup. I flailed around in the kitchen for some time adding various things to my Magnum Opus. I ended up with a huge pan of hot, hearty, inedible sludge. For those who…

Interestingly, a barcarole is a type of song sung by boatmen in Venice as they steer their gondolas along the canals. How romantic! Autocorrect win.

That's an interesting recipe, @runningforthetrain - have you tried it? How did it taste?

I don't accept friend requests but I just wanted to drop by to say congratulations! That's an excellent start.

But did they swim? You can't let a few icebergs put you off!

I was going to suggest your joints might be hurting and ask if you had bought new shoes recently (I get some pain when adapting to new shoes) or if perhaps you needed new ones. But midsection and thighs sounds more like muscle soreness.

This old thread interests me as I'm a trike rider - I have an old Pashley Picador (an upright delta trike, classic old style) that I bought to carry mini me about when she was a toddler. I now use it to carry the weekly shop - I have a supermarket 3.5 miles away along a paved cycle path, so it's ideal. I like riding the…

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong.
