I think it's physiognomy. Some peoples body structure is more suited than others. I can squat up to 245 with a barbell but can't single leg squat to save my life.
-
Pretty much same here. I've also seen people who aren't strong at weighted squats bang these out without much difficulty. I don't think there is much carryover between the two.

400lbs and all this is correct. Surface you're flipping it on also has an impact. It's a fun conditioning exercise. I have a 200lb and 400lb tire. I used to flip the 200lb one back and forth across my yard followed by sledge hammer swings onto the tire. Then I got a large dog and couldn't be certain I wouldn't be reaching…

It's even worse when you're over 50. I peed between every one of my attempts. I remember years ago someone joking about testing the masters women and having to wait around to manufacture more.
-
I was okay with the drug test. I've ordered them for meets in the past. It was random; one man and one woman. There weren't a ton of women. The only issue was I had no pee left so I had to sit and drink water until I had some.

It's the CPF. I've always lifted in the CPU (IPF affiliate). However, now that I'm no longer on our Provincial affiliate executive, I feel free to branch out and meet new people

I did a meet yesterday. It's the first time I've lifted in a different federation. They have a 24 hour weigh in which is kick *kitten*. I weighed in at 59.1kg but didn't do anything spectacular or get any PRs. However, I deadlifted without a t-shirt which was fun. Best squat was 107.5 Best bench was 52.5 Best deadlift was…

I love to walk. I consider it exercise that is relaxing and low impact that doesn't negatively affect the sport I compete in. It increases my energy and improves my state of mind. It's a wonderful way to get into fitness for those who are new to it; kind of thin edge of the wedge type of thing. It really depends upon what…

You are adorable. That's an awesome picture.

I'm with you on that. I count push ups as core work. Having said that, I do actually do core work. I just include push ups as one part of it.

This is something I struggle with. I started lifting at 43 and will be 53 this year. When I go through periodic strength troughs I wonder 'is this it?'. Is this the inevitable decline dictated by age? I'm still getting stronger but think I would have progressed more if I'd started when I was younger. The alternative is to…

Nice job. Congratulations. I love the meet t-shirt.

Sorry to hear about the crappy meet. I had a similar one in January. They happen. When you've done a lot of meets they will crop up.
-
Is there something going on? Have you done a meet recently? Have you been physically stressed/active in other ways that are atypical for you? What about work/home life? All of this has an enormous impact. I found that even more so as I age. I feel weak as a kitten after a meet and it takes a while to get up to speed again.…

That looked great! There's a lot more there.

Based on population, the US has 10 times Canada, that would mean your nationals would need 4,000 competitors to be comparable by population. If that's the case, it is indeed monstrous in size. We've split up our Provincial Championships in my province because it's almost the same size as nationals and has become unwieldy…

To strive to be the best is what makes people better. We received similar feedback when we raised the qualifying standards; it wasn't fair because suddenly there were people who couldn't go. With the number of people in our federation, perhaps it's time to treat an event as prestigious as our national championships similar…

It was the most competitive class in the M2s. There have been a number of comments about the size of nationals; that it's too large. I agree that it's too big and perhaps we should consider each Province sending a team similar to countries sending teams to Worlds. However, despite the monstrous size of the event, the…

I caught your first squat. You had a very deep weight class and very competitive.

It took me about a year to work up the courage. Now it's 10 years later. I think it was harder to make myself do that, by myself than compete at just about any meet.
-
This really illustrates how we're all different. I take the less is more approach particularly in contest. I find it stressful to have a lot of warm ups and work in with everyone. Warm up rooms can be a s**t show. I warm up more for squat than anything. Mine goes bar, 135x3, 165x2, 195x1, 215x1. Bench is two warm up sets…

Additionally, there are some things you do that you can't unring the bell. My employer is a natural bodybuilder who got his pro-cards a number of years ago. He said the temptation is always there to get bigger and better. He just doesn't think you can make an easy transition back the other way. It's more of a mental and…

I don't know if I'll compete equipped again. I find it much harder on my body; particularly my shoulders. Just having so much of a heavier weight on my back squatting makes them ache and I'd end up with referred pain in my hands because of it. Age. What can I say :)
-
Sweet. I do the same thing as you when it gets heavy; I lean forward a bit just to support the weight. Your depth wasn't horrible. The fatigue lean makes it hard to get down. Your squat seems like it's come a long way.
-
It's gone in phases like anything else. Clearly it started unequipped. I've heard old school stories about men wrapping tennis balls at the backs of their knees as an early equipped effort. The gear has changed like crazy. I typically squatted in a Titan Super Centurion which is a million miles ahead of the suits they wore…
-
This is very well put. As mentioned earlier, I was an equipped competitor before I was an unequipped competitor simply because our federation didn't have unequipped at the time. (IPF affiliate). With the possible exception of deadlift, the other lifts are quite a bit different in gear than raw. For the most part, lifting…

This was tonight's training. It wasn't in the plan but I was feeling full of P&V. Max rep deadlifts. Weight is 227.5 which is what was on the plan tonight. I may have threw up a bit of my tuna sandwich. My conditioning is for crap. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FzKTuReCuo

It's true. Gravity up here is different

It was likely Sonya. However, I've been a ref here for about 5 years. It certainly gives you a new appreciation for what you're doing. No doubt yours are looking for more refs just like we are here.

For this year I'd be 75th across all ages out of 404 . I meant 14th overall (in all years) in M2. I wish we had a slick database like that. It would certainly help my ego. With our sport growing so much and so many new, really good people coming into the sport, average now was very good 5 years ago. I've been competing…
