  • Congratulations! I'm so looking forward to that myself! I'm so close, only 6 lbs away. That's my next goal. When I reach it, I'll have to figure out a new one. Good job!!!
  • LW: 192.6 9/12: 192.4 Well, only 0.2#. But I went out for Mexican last night and it was way salty! My low this week was 190.6. It sure will be nice to see the 180s! I'm still walking about 25 miles a week. In addition, I've taken up (light) weights at the gym (the cardiologist won't let me lift heavy, much to my dismay).…
  • Apple cider is about 100 calories per 8 oz!
  • Coffee in the morning. Water in the afternoon. Kamikaze in the evening.
  • GMOs are just modified in the lab. Before that, farmers and scientists modified things in greenhouses. And with radiation and carcinogens. Only those weren't regulated. But whether they're GMOs modified by manipulating genetics or by manipulating with radiation and carcinogens, by the time it gets to the table, it's just…
  • As of this week, now (I'm sure not everyone has posted), our group has lost an average (mean) of about 2.7 lbs. with the median at 2.6. The standard deviation is about 2.8 lbs. The most gained was 8.4 and the most lost has been 8. Pretty good for 3 weeks in I'd say!
  • SW: 197 LW: 195 8/22: 193.8 Progress this week. But I have walked. And walked. And walked. I have a blister on my toe to show for it. And it sure is worth it!!! My average weight loss/week over the last year is ~3/4 lb. So 1.2 in a week is terrific. Let's see if I can sustain it! Have a WONderful week everyone!!!
  • I'm a cardiac RN. A seriously fit athlete can sit in the 30s and be fine. An old man with heart failure is dying with that kind of HR. It doesn't have to do with weight, it has to do with fitness and how athletic you are.
  • It's really hard to decide. This is not in order of preference. 1) The Stones 2) Queen 3) Neil Young 4) Bruce Springsteen 5) Simon & Garfunkel and and and
  • Up a pound. Blame it on TOM maybe. Can't blame it on lack of exercise, that's for sure! Still, down 2# since beginning of challenge, so over 2 weeks. That's faster than I usually lose. This is good. As Brian in Monty Python's "Life of Brian" sang, "Always look on the bright side of life!"
  • I have a solution for chocolate. Avoid Hershey's. Go to the expensive chocolatier you must have locally and buy one or two truffles. Yup, they cost a bundle. At Matthew's here in little Hillsborough, NC they cost about $2.25-2.50 each. They have about 70 calories each. But they are so damn good, you don't need any more.
  • Big girl bed, take her shopping for it, make it a big deal "Look how big you are getting." Or, at Mommy's house you sleep with Mommy, but in Daddy's house, you sleep nearby, where I can hear you if you need me. Also, my middle child didn't sleep through the night until he was 7 y.o. At age 3, I told him Mommy and Daddy's…
  • If the doc recommends meds, just take the doggone pill. What's worse, popping a Lipitor once a day, or an MI when you're 50? And heart failure? And a pacemaker? Of course always try diet and exercise first. But if they don't work, that is what medication is there for! And I also agree with the above poster about getting…

  • They are beautiful. Your own will be even cuter! Just as mine were (and remain) nearly perfect. I am sorry for presuming "grandchildren". I don't know why I was thinking you were closer to my age, but you are quite a few years younger! Lot's of baby years ahead of you yet! I am expecting my first grandchild in late…
  • Margarine is worse for you than butter. Use the butter!
  • I am happily down 3 lb. this week. Amazing considering how hungry I've been! But I've been walking my butt off too, so I guess it is working out. I was stuck for a long time, so it's really nice to see the scale move downward a bit! Here's hoping for more of the same for next week! Keep up the good work and good spirits…
  • I am quoting your words back at you because those are some of the things I decided to do that really helped me. Another one was to walk. I started out just walking a little, just a few minutes. Then more, a mile a day, maybe 6 miles a week. Now I weigh under 200 and I walk 5 miles 5 days a week. It has taken more than a…
  • A Most Wanted Man by LeCarré for my reading group. I don't know...not really into spy novels. But just finished the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Wonderful and awesome!!!
  • Wonderful post Mule! Thanks for pointing it out.
  • As usual, the spreadsheet looks terrific. So organized! You are awesome. Thank you so much Ms. and Shmu!
  • The process of losing weight is frustrating, especially when I've hit a plateau like I so often seem to (lose a few-plateau for a month or more, repeat). But I can't say it ticks me off particularly. It worries me when people say how good I look. What was I before, chopped liver? But what really annoys me, and probably…
  • Two. First, I don't want to die at age 54 like my daddy did (54 is rapidly approaching). Second, I am done being suicidal, and being overweight is suicidal.
  • RE: protein. Eggs; legumes and grains together, ie rice; hummus (which has beans and tahini, so you don't even need to add another grain as it satisfies the criteria). There are some good vegetarian cookbooks out there. Molly Katzen's books are old, but good. "Fast Vegetarian Feasts" is good. I'm sure there are newer ones,…
  • I'm in. Thanks for initiating this group! I appreciate the spreadsheet too. SW (today): 197 GW (xmas): 182 It would be great to be lower than that really, because I'm hoping to make 185 by 10/14 (though that's probably unrealistic). Well, let's go for it anyway! Carolyn PS: Hi kawookie/Kim. Are those grandbabies in your…
  • The peace and quiet of the house before anyone else gets up.
  • You can add me!
  • Well, I'm far from goal, but I'm a whole lot closer than I would be if I hadn't tried! I made it about 52% of the way there, more than half way. And I'm in week two of being in Onederland, a very good thing! April loss: 4 lbs May loss: 4.6 lbs June loss: 2.4 lbs July loss: 1.6 lbs Total loss: 12.6 lbs Change in BMI: 33.8…
  • Shmu, I'm in for something like calories burned by a certain date. I appreciate anything you set up, and your awesome spreadsheets! Carolyn
  • Perhaps it could be calories burned OR net pounds or kilos lifted.
