  • Discipline.
  • Thank you all for the interesting comments. In particular, FitnessTrainer69, what do you mean you changed the way you shop for food?
  • There is such a huge difference!!! I am stuck in the phase right now that you mentioned, where I wake up one day super motivated and set some unrealistic goal for myself, then go back to eating unhealthy. This is inspiring because I hope that one day I will be in your position, looking back on these days when I was so lost.
  • This explains a lot! I am 5'1" and I feel like when I lose just five-ten pounds my clothes fit differently, but I always figured it was just in my head. Yay for us! It's nice to be reminded that even the mini-successes are successes.
  • Thank you to all of you for those replies! I want to quote so many of the wonderful things you said but it would take way too long because everyone added something! Very helpful responses, and now that it is tomorrow, you all helped me feel motivated and regret-free about the setback.
  • I have seen ridiculous fluctuations day-to-day like up to 5 lbs difference. Usually that is after I ate a big salty meal so I know the water retention is adding to it, as it may be in your case. I have always been able to fix it in a couple of days by doing exactly what you say you're going to do. Stick to it and you…
  • Did you start and stop several times or was it just like one day you decided to do it and did it? If you started over many times, how did you stick with it the final time?
  • I can absolutely relate to you because this has been the constant cycle of my life! I totally get it- sometimes I need to stay at home to make sure everything I eat is super healthy or other times I need to stay at home so I can stuff my face with as much food as I want in private! I really wish it were easier to stick to…
  • Well let me thank you so much for the laugh and boost of confidence you just gave me! That is inspiring to hear!
  • Yes you are so right. Actually I am glad I can quote you here to say that I have loved all of your comments so far and thank you for the great insight! I have lost lots of weight before and I got so neurotic about it that I decided I was tired, and I just wanted a normal life back. I went a little over-board on that whole…
  • Thank you for such a kind and well-thought-out response. It means so much more to me hearing from people like you who can tell me the truth but also can say "hey I understand what you're going through". I will think back to this often because I agree that it is very important to start your good habits when you are young.…
  • Aw thank you so very much! That really makes my day, and it's only morning :)
  • [/quote] Does it stop you achieving things you want to achieve or doing stuff you want to do? Do you have health problems? Are you happy? Because, honestly, if you are living a full and happy life that is meaningful to you and you're not in-and-out of the doctors every two seconds, does it matter? If you want to be more…
  • Okay, thank you for the honesty, since that is what this thread is about. What I specifically meant there was that I was choosing to be more relaxed and have fun, because saying that I choose to be unhealthy seems a little different. I eat lots of healthy foods and I never eat truly terrible things for your body. But I…
  • Thank you all very much! These comments, which have gone in both directions, do help! Here's what I have gathered so far: I should be doing this only for me, therefore what matters is MY opinion and how I feel. Being overweight is something that I should change, but not because someone else is making me feel like I…
  • Wow you look so different! I am really impressed with the fact that you stuck with it this long and logged EVERY day. Do you feel that doing that helped you? I would think that someone like you might feel like they know enough now to not have to log.
  • How exactly does this work? I mean because MFP is set up just for daily goals right? I think this sounds neat but would you just add up your calories for every week and see if they are within the amount of calories you're allowed times 7?
  • Omg that's inspiring. I can't imagine how much hard work and discipline that took. Bravo!

  • Thanks for that! I think you are definitely right. I think that when people really go off the rails with weight loss, it's because something is wrong. I will think of that lots from now on when my mindset is that it's too hard for me to keep going.
  • Wow I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this. Two years ago I went from 160 lbs to 115 lbs and I experienced the same problems you described. Perhaps it is common when girls lose a lot of weight quickly to become obsessed with it? I also lost my period, couldn't stop thinking about food, and was constantly…
  • Yes I believe that I'll one day agree with you. I can't imagine finally reaching my goal and then saying eh, I'd rather just be fat and lazy again.
  • Thank you! It IS hard work and some people make it seem like those who have lost weight are the lucky chosen ones. I lost lots of weight once, like you, and I got many comments like "wow I wish I could lose weight like you" or "what's the secret?". That may sound like a compliment but usually the tone suggested that I took…
  • I am no expert, but this sounds like plantar fasciitis, which you may already have considered. If not, you should read up on that. I got it from long distance running because I have unusually high arches in my feet. There can be many causes but those are 2 common ones. I got inserts and reduced my running which didn't help…
  • Well from what I understand, you post pictures of yourself on your scale and also a picture of your scale with a special word written on a piece of paper next to your scale for each week. The website has employees who act as referees, checking everyone's entries. If they have any suspicions, you must do a video weigh-in.
  • Thank you everyone this makes me feel much better to know we all indulged a little. Even though yesterday was Christmas and all, I woke up today with that feeling of being a little disgusted by how much I ate. I didn't track but I'm sure it was a high number!
  • Yes that was a fantastic post, thank you! It's so true…I feel excited about losing weight and once that feeling goes away I give up. I never before realized that it was the loss of excitement, not motivation, though. Very interesting perspective
  • Holy **** you look incredible!!!! I have never been so motivated by a before and after picture. Thank you.
  • This was really wonderful to hear. Thank you! It helps to know that other people have dealt with this but are working through it, like you. I will work on my consistency and working out to counteract things. Keep up the great work!
  • I have never had as many stressors as you are dealing with right now so I'm sorry but I don't feel like I'm in any place to be giving advice. Having said that, it sounds to me like you truly do want to lose weight, and I think you should start now! Putting it off could just make things worse and then you might look back…
  • To get the most out of life. I want to make my life as happy as it possibly can be by managing what I can control and weight is a biggie!
