Rich tea biscuits were a part of my downfall! I love the Pally's with my tea. Tragically, at 54 calories each, they pack quite a wallop, and worse when you have (as I would) up 3-6 a day.

Absolutely. Even in different regions within the U.S. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and have lived on the West Coast almost my entire life - I spent 3 years in Britain, and less than two years in Texas (and the first year I was still in school and so not attuned to the coffee/tea:food issue), so I may have a very…

I bought 4 oz bowls for the same reason. When I weigh out my ?85g? of ice cream, it looks much more satisfying in the small bowl.

It's not really an either/or question. I love both. But the idea of donuts and tea, for example, seems weird. Donuts and coffee seems perfectly normal. Scones, for me, go with both coffee and tea. Cake? Coffee. Pie? Maybe tea; definitely coffee. Pudding? Neither, most likely. Cookies? Coffee. Maybe it's American…

The 16 calorie tea biscuits? I warn you, they're tiny. Like 1 inch by 2 inch rectangle tiny. But at 32 calories for 2, they're just enough of a cookie that 2 satisfies the need. They're called Kedem tea biscuits. I found them in the International aisle of my grocery store, or with the Kosher foods.

Why no dance? Do you count belly dance? There are loads of videos on YouTube, and quite a few DVDs. I also use the dance game with the Wii Fit. I can't do half the moves, but at least I'm moving. :)

I just save calories for small portions of ice cream. Different flavors and different brands have vastly different calories metrics. 1/4 c of green tea ice cream is about 60 calories; 1/2 cup of Breyer's strawberry is about 150 (but 3/4 c of Trader Joe's eggnog ice cream is 375 calories). And Haagen Dasz strawberry is 315…

::Hugs:: Congratulations on understanding what happened! The sad truth is, just a few calories a day more than you burn can add up to quite a bit of weight. I put on 50 pounds in three years; that's about 150 a day (every day!) more than I burned. The extra calories - and the unnoticed calories - are really insidious. I…

That would be why I specified a portion size. :) My 16.3 oz jar is, to my eyes, a "modest size". I still can't fathom being able to eat 6T of peanut butter in a wrap (even the giant burrito size), to say nothing of three of them. Two "fajita size" wraps with a total of 3T of peanut butter (1.5 servings, according to my…

<shrugs> My 16.3 oz jar of peanut butter says it contains about 14 servings at 2Tbsp each. What are you considering a portion? I can't put 2T of peanut butter on a sandwich, to say nothing of three times that amount.

Congratulations! Are you giving yourself presents for every 10 pounds lost? I have one for every "zero" (210, 200, 190, etc.). (I count a zero if I weigh in at or below the "zero weight" for three days running.) I also double up at 160 because not only do I get a "zero" present, I get a "BMI is under 30" present. Presents…

Seriously? 10 servings of peanut butter? That's 2/3 of a jar of peanut butter. Hyperbole much? As for the egg sandwiches, it's all a matter of calories in vs. calories out. There is no way to answer that without knowing what the boys' metabolic burn is. Also, it's all about trends, not moments. Are they eating fried egg…

OP, I work 8-5, and have an hour+ commute each way. Ideally, I leave home at 6:45am, and get home between 6:20 and 6:50pm, so I pretty much have a 12 hour work day. Do you have a food scale? Seriously, portion awareness is one of the biggest keys. Do you have a microwave and a refrigerator at work? If so, cook steel cut…

I think understanding that you have to change your lifestyle (including food choices, portion choices, and activity level) is pretty much the linchpin for success. The Diet Industry doesn't really want anybody to understand that once we lose that 10 pounds in a non-sustainable fashion, odds are we will go back to the exact…

I like the steel cut oats. For me, they're easier overall, especially since they re-heat. I cook them, stovetop, in the evening, and then, using my food scale, weigh out three portions. 1 cup oats, 4 cups water. Bring water to a boil, add oats. Reduce heat to a medium-low boil; cook, stirring occasionally for 5 minutes.…

Congratulations on perspective about the relationship. That's huge. You can do this. You are not your relationship status.

I volunteer to be a mentor. I'm 48, and started (actively) in June 2014 with 90 pounds to lose. 7 months in, I'm 60 pounds down, and still going strong. "Knowledge is Power" is my mantra (and my blog!) I have a lot of understanding I wish I had developed 30 years ago. I know how I put the weight on, and what I have to do…

I have an Up24, which I guess is an earlier model of the Up3. I love it, and its sleep tracking function (which, with software updates, has improved a bit over the 6 months I have had it). Personally, I would get an Up24 now and not wait for the Up3 (I've heard that the Up3 may not be out for a while yet).

Do you have a refrigerator and a microwave at work? I do, and those have been a huge factor in what I choose. My M-F breakfast at the office is a bowl of steel cut oats (reheated), with 2T half and half, and 1/2 cup blueberries. For lunch, I have a 2-3 portions of snap peas, 1/2 - 1 portion cherry tomatoes, an apple, and,…

Also look at the expected calorie burn for that hour in the gym. If I could run (jog) at a 5 mph pace for 15 minutes, I would lose .. 150 calories. At this point, I probably can't sustain that kind of a pace for a minute, much less 15. And look at the options you do have. Do you have a Wii? Can you get one for the same…

::Hugs:: I started with 90 pounds to lose, and a two latte a day habit. 7 months in, and I'm down 57 pounds. Food logging and calorie counting helped me cut that to just one latte a day. First step, for me, would be to look up the calories in what you have. Personally, I don't recommended going for splenda or substitute…

I empathize about the fixation on "how many calories are left" - a friend has that issue as well. Unfortunately, the maxim "you can't exercise your way past a bad diet" is generally true. Do you know how much time you have to spend walking/running to burn, for example, 450 calories? 45 minutes, at a 5mph pace. 27 minutes…

It's easy now, but think of the advantages we have - refrigeration, shipping, the Internet. We can more easily find out better nutritional information about more foods. Those are huge factors. Now, I get a bit melodramatic - fresh raspberries with half and half? This dieting life is *so hard*. :) The diet industry doesn't…

My "go to" of late, because I love Indian food, has been baked chicken, cubed and stirred into a simmer sauce. For super-moist baked chicken: Original recipe http://www.thekitchn.com/how-to-cook-the-best-chicken-breasts-in-the-oven-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-211453 I find that about 3 chicken breasts fit in my 8x8…

Apples and snap peas. They're pretty much a mainstay of my lunch. Turkey breast is a close third, and might edge out apples because of the protein, but apples provide a lot of satiety. Apples and turkey together are pretty much perfect for my purposes. My sugar count runs a little high, but I'm not fussed about that in…

I have the Up24. It's a bit generous in its calculation, but since it goes on the wrist, it's also a bit under-representative if my wrist is still (pushing a grocery cart, carrying something in that hand, etc. Still, it gives me a better picture of how much I am doing than not using it would give, and I have added some…

Daily. I know my weight will fluctuate, and that I will plateau, but I want to see the successes, even though my weight will bounce up and down like a basketball.

I've told everybody around me that I've changed my approach to food and eating. I'm not on a diet. I've changed how I eat; how I approach food and exercise. If it's not a change, the odds that I will go back to unhealthy habits go up.
-
My advice would be to slowly eat the snacks so you really taste them. You might find you don't actually like the taste.

::hugs:: I've lost 55 of 90 pounds, and I empathize. Celebrate your success, if you haven't. Set mini goals and tiny rewards. Drank 8 glasses of water each day for a week? Give yourself a reward! Did three workouts a week? Give yourself a reward! Kept within your calorie guidelines all week? They can be small rewards -…
