  • Avoid anything deep fried, obviously. Same goes for the ones with special sauces. Go very traditional - fewer ingredients, no sauces, etc. Truly, sushi and sashimi are great options for someone trying to lose weight and eat right. Don't be afraid of the fish - very healthy, great source of protein, tastes fantastic. Enjoy!
  • Muscle burns more calories, so strength training will increase your metabolism as well as give you a fitter look as you lose weight. In addition, as we age (which, unfortunately, we all do), strength training helps put minor, appropriate stress on your skeleton that things like zumba and other cardio exercises do not. This…
  • I was on vacation in Seattle and went to the Pacific Science Ceter - they had an exhibit on the heart and part of it was a scale/BMI thing. I was 234 pounds. I came home and joined a gym immediately. Now, 10 years later I sit at 150, and am training actively for a 500 mile bike race. My blood pressure, cholesterol,…
  • I double-check all the time. So many have been entered incorrectly, or people add other items to them and don't specify that they are doing so. I correct about 10 a week, I would guess. Glad I'm not the only one! Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter
  • Starbucks and many other coffee houses do have the calorie content for their drinks available. And yes, some of the best FUFU drinks are calorie bombs. If you have to get a mocha, though, I suggest getting the mocha frappucino light at Starbucks - you'll save 120 calories. Personally, I switched to Americano's, only 10…
  • As someone who has back pain due to (1) and injury and (2) congenital stenosis and who works at an academic medical center in the Neurosurgery/Spine center, I recommmend the following: (1) get an evaluation - from your primary care physician or a physical therapist. (2) DO WHAT THEY TELL YOU - which will most likely be a…
  • If you like the bagel sandwich, I say why not? You can keep yourself within your calorie goal and still eat the stuff you want - if your don't, then watching what you eat becomes deprivation, which is not sustainable long term. Enjoy it! Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Free Calorie Counter
  • If you're doing a whole chicken (which is great, by the way) I throw in onions, carrots, celery and potatoes. Pretty much any veggie will work. I don't recommend adding any sauces - too much sugar and empty calories. Just rub with seasoning of your choice (I live sage and salt on chicken).
  • Well, first, I love asparagus, so perhaps I'm biased, but here's a suggestion. DON'T BOIL IT - it is a common way to cook it, but is the worst possible way to cook it. If you want it cooked completely, it's hard to beat roasting it. lay it on a non-stick cookie sheet, brush them with olive oil, sprinkle with a little sea…
  • Sometimes what your body needs to repair, replenish and - yes, lose weight - is rest. You may be working out too much and not eating enough, ironically, forcing your body into starvation mode where it will not burn fat but store it for the long haul. Give yourself rest days, and make sure you are eating at your goal. You…
