  • When I get the urge to over eat at night I try and do exercise instead. Works well for me.
  • Custard slices are definitely worth it!
  • Yeah I hear you. My point is that those who say it's not as simple as that, hormones etc play a big role are just as dogmatic about their scientific facts. My stance is, I don't care. If things work for me I keep it, if it doesn't then I don't.
  • Not getting into any controversy (as I find it stressful), but there are so many theories claiming to have the scientific high ground that I am sceptical of anyone's claims to the absolute truth in weight loss. I take a very pragmatic approach now. I try things, if they are beneficial I keep them, and if not I lose them.…
  • My legs and arms get physically skinny - measured. No fat on them previously. I don't put weight on in my arms and legs (excess fat). I carry it all around my waist. Apple shape, I think they call it.
  • lol I didn't get plump, I was already plump. I lost weight but it was muscle. You have probably seen skinny fat people, that's what it does to me. But BCAA seems to have a positive effect on that for me.
  • I've got a running machine and expensive scales that both measure body fat, they are usually 10% different! My Gym has a body pod which are very accurate, and makes the running machine within 4% accurate. In short I just use the body pod every so often. Not very expensive
  • I used to do that but strangely discovered I enjoy the treadmill. At this stage I get frustrated with weights, I know I'm not going to put loads of muscle on when I'm at a calorie deficit, and that the goal is to tone and not lose muscle, but that just doesn't do it for me. I do body weight exercises most days, circuit…
  • Doing something you enjoy like Martial arts is a fantastic way of keeping fit and losing weight. I haven't trained for a few years, was a black belt in TKD, and did some kick boxing. Been very frustrated where I currently live as it has no WTF TKD clubs, and no Krav Maga clubs, which is what I would like to do. In…
  • I downloaded Zombi run and tried it today. I like the interactive story idea, but I don't find the long periods of silence very motivating. Am I missing something?
  • Yeah but I suspect not all sugars are created equal. I'm guessing fruit in sugar is better than white processed cane sugar. Nothing would surprise me though.

  • Depends how much you eat of it I guess.

  • If only there wasn't the added complication of health.
in Sugar Comment by slowbutsure2 March 2015
  • That makes sense.
in Sugar Comment by slowbutsure2 March 2015
  • I think that's certainly true. Unless you eat a whole tub of ice cream lol

  • A few reasons I guess. The less calories in things like sugar the more overall food I get to eat! I understand that sugar is not particularly good for your health, and I'm trying to be healthier. Lastly, there is enough conflicting information on the fat storage issue to not completely ignore it. It's no big deal for me to…

  • Thanks, that's really interesting. I never expected that of whey.
in Sugar Comment by slowbutsure2 March 2015
  • Yeah true, though it does effect overall health. I'm not sure how healthy sugar is either.

  • You may well be right. As usual there are studies and claims in both directions. The UK government have recently come out and said fat up isn't the enemy we thought it was, sugar is. Who knows.

  • Yeah its a puzzle. Here is another on that quotes scientific research http://www.oprah.com/health/Lose-Weight-with-a-Low-Glycemic-Diet

  • That is interesting. I wonder what effect it has on insulin.
in Sugar Comment by slowbutsure2 March 2015
  • There seem to be much information out there (like link above) that say that higher GI foods, like sugar, are used instantly for energy instead of using fat that's been stored. So, I think what they are saying is that eating lower GI foods enable you to burn stored fat more. An area I find quite confusing.

  • I don't think so. It was more the stuff on fat storage http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/spotlight-low-gi

  • I don't know to be honest. Aren't these substitutes meant to be a lot better? The effect it has on your blood sugar and insulin levels. Both affecting the storage of fat. The whole GI thing. Not entirely sure though.

  • So because you don't agree with someone you assume they are being dishonest? Nice. The rest of your post is more of the same. And as I've said, I don't Believe I've back peddled at all from my original post. You may have done your usual and assumed the worst and built a straw man from it, but that's on you.

  • Have you thought about ignoring your weight and just monitoring your body fat percentage? I find thus more encouraging and motivational. My Gym has a body pod and its £10 a go, so I'm just using that once a month. There are scales etc that measure body fat but they don't tend to be very accurate. Also, it might help to…
  • If your at school its normal. I have 5 children and they all do the same. Don't worry about it, but don't over do it.
  • That's not the way it is often expressed here on my fitness pal.
