Thanks for sharing, and you and your family are beautiful!

Almost all restaurants will accommodate special requests (broiled fish instead of fried, hold the butter, etc). They will steam vegetables, etc. One thing you can do is decide where you want to spend your calories. If you love dessert, you may want to forego soft drinks or alcohol. If having a glass of wine is important,…

I was watching some old movies from the '40s this weekend. There were fat people in those movies. No one ate fast food then. No one had the internet or watched tv, because it wasn't yet available. I have two sisters-in-law, my husband's sisters. One is naturally thin, the other tends to put on weight very easily. You could…

The military owns you when you're a member. So they do have the right to say what you can do off-duty, especially on a base or post. You also cannot wear your uniform in certain political situations, so as to avoid the appearance of the military endorsing a candidate.

Hmmm. There's more going on here. This is about your sister getting away with something and you wanting to tell the truth, to sort of make her come clean. I understand the feelings, but if you can detach yourself (easier said than done), maybe you'll be able to think about it without letting it push your buttons so much. I…

I've also heard or read that a very low-fat diet (in addition to the low calorie) can cause you to shed hair too quickly. Your body needs healthy fats, such as olive oil, avocado, nuts, etc. I would not only eat more, but also eat more of the nutrition your body needs.

Good luck! You have youth in your favor, and your starting weight will allow you to still eat a good number of calories, even though you need a deficit to lose. I would focus on changing one meal at a time. I started with breakfast. And, if you can, avoid all or nothing thinking...you know, that it has to be 50 lbs or it's…

I found that the harder I exercised, the more I needed to eat. So I lost bodyfat, but not weight during a period where I was really putting in the hours for weight training, etc. Also, your body composition may be changing (are your clothes looser than before?).

I rarely talk about it. Most people haven't noticed my weight loss because it's been over a long period, and i have a long way to go. But, occasionally I will say something. I talk about it with my husband and kids. I try to enjoy what I'm eating and I have added more things (more greens and fruits) than taken away (some…

You're really inspiring! How wonderful and I think it's great that you mentioned that you were able to leave MFP, maintain or just gain a few and then come back. It really helps to know that there are so many different paths to successful weight loss. Great job! You look very happy and pretty!

Homemade smoothies. Frozen fruit either raspberries or blueberries, nonfat yogurt and some juice. I'm addicted. Great substitute for a milkshake and the fruit has been great for my skin!

I looked at your diary...for the past few days you're not logging specific food, but just Quick Adding calories. It might help to see (for yourself) how you're doing if you log everything you eat. Try it for one week and then you can adjust what you want. I would keep trying. Try to change one thing at a time: makeover one…

I actually eat more volume of food now that I eat fewer calories. Try the book, "Eat More, Weigh Less." Another good book is "The 400 Calorie Fix." Or, "Eat This, Not That." The first book is extreme, so you might not like it, but the recipes are very filling, to me anyway. The other two books work with the reality that…

Congratulations, that's amazing. I don't normally love tattoos, but Popeye is great! Your daughter is adorable!

In my own experience, 12 weeks of weight training and you will see a major difference. Everyone's different. Interval training (cardio) can also help. Some of what you're seeing is simply genetics of fat storage. Everyone stores it differently. Good luck!

Hang in there. Have you seen a nutritionist or trainer...people who might be willing to work with you and encourage you? Take small steps. You can do it!

No it's not okay to eat 500 calories a day. At all.

Try to eat more whole foods (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, unprocessed meats, fish, etc) and fewer processed foods. Doesn't mean you can't have any of that stuff, but higher quality food within your calorie range may help. It's helped me, and I have the same tendency to gain in the middle. Even when I'm thin! Also,…

More sleep controls your hormone levels that leads to feeling hungry. And, less sleep can make your stress hormones (cortisol) increase, depending on your situation. I'd vote for more sleep with brief, brisk walks during the day.

I would tread very lightly, as you risk being in the same category as her parents, with their comments. There's no nice way to "help" someone lose weight. Most Americans understand healthy eating and exercising, and the relationship to weight loss. If there were a magic solution we wouldn't need MFP or external motivators.…

Well, I keep sticking with it even when I'm not doing well. I think that might be the secret to maintaining weight loss, but it doesn't help me to lose additional weight. One thing I did early on was to remake one meal at a time. For example, I had always wanted to try my own smoothies at home, so now I have a few recipes…

Congratulations! Well done and thanks for sharing your story!

That is very good news! Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas...I forgot something else I used to do... make coupon books for your kids. Or a coupon jar. Decorate it and then write on little slips of papers, things you will do for them. For an 8 year old it can be reading an extra book at bedtime, or playing tag, or football, or something else. For the 14 year old it…

Do you belong to freecycle? It's a yahoo group and you can give away things for free as well as receive them. You can post an "Item Wanted" on it, too. If there's something specific you are looking for, ask for it for your child. You can pay it forward next time. I have given a way a lot on the site (gently used, even some…

Congratulations on your weight loss! I love your philosophy and I agree with it...it sounds like it's something you can live with, being imperfect and accepting yourself while also taking good care of yourself. Great job!
