  • Personally, I wouldn't do it... but I'm in a high risk group medically. If I wasn't, I would probably see if I could find a mask that is N95 to wear for my protection and then put a fashionable cloth mask over it for additional good measure and appearance.
  • Someone needs a good topic first. For example: Tupac isn't really dead. Prove me wrong.
  • Probably nothing as I'm sure there will be a lot.
  • I saw a headline that the BAA has said the Boston Marathon 2021 will not happen in April. It will be delayed until fall 2021 at best. This makes sense because Covid is still a real issue and will likely still be in April.
  • Dyer County, TN (northwest TN) has a mask mandate again, started 10/22. It wasn't enforced in Sept. before it expired (Sept. 28), and I have no expectation that anyone will enforce it now. But it is a nice idea in theory. I saw 2 deputies on Sunday not wearing masks... if the county law enforcement won't even follow the…
  • @kgirlhart @rheddmobile Agreed, bobcats are not a concern. They are small (15-40 lbs... about the size of a large house cat, sometimes slightly larger, rarely to they get to 40, but possible). And they are wild cats, so generally afraid of humans and will hide if they know you are nearby. The only wild cats that attack…
  • Yes, keto is a great idea. Or you could do what I've done and go keto carnivore. If you only eat animals, then it should be gluten free. You only have to be careful to avoid heavily processed meats that have additives... but then eating real food instead of factory food is generally considered more ideal anyway.
  • I voted by mail, which normally wouldn't be allowed here (TN) without a valid reason. One of the reasons we can use is for medical reasons. Having an underlying health condition that increases my risk of severe illness from Covid is a qualifying medical reason.
  • I saw a headline earlier today where Dr. Fauci is saying this is still first wave.
  • Runners have lower heart rates and I would expect most doctors know this. Last time I was in the hospital, the lowest setting before it alarmed was 45 bpm and they changed the alarm on the heart rate monitor so that it only went to the nurse station rather than beeping in the room. Otherwise, I was just going to have to…
  • Yes, and with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, then Christmas, Hanukkah, New Years, etc. all coming up soon... we are in for trouble.
  • I'm unclear what exactly you are asking. Are you wanting advice for how to stop injuring your fingers? Are you wanting people to tell you it's ok to quit?
  • As per usual, I am not keeping up with this thread. Also, I lost my ticker for this month and will have to make a new one if I care enough (I don't). Anyway, I ran the Walking Tall 25K today in TN. Tomorrow, I run the Wade Mountain 1/2 Marathon in AL. Pics from today's 25K, from atop the fire tower on course. Extra…
  • I live alone, but not looking for a small turkey. I'll cook a full sized bird and have leftovers for a day or 2.
  • Yes, back when the mask mandate was in effect here, it just had to be posted at the entrance. Wal-Mart as a corporate policy, I understand, has people at the doors with the intent of enforcing their policy. But here, they don't do it.
  • In this case, they didn't inform the maskless customers about the mask mandate either.
  • I think some did that here too, but even when there was a county ordinance requiring masks, I observed people walk right past the Wal-Mart door employees without a mask.
  • Wal-Mart in TN has people at the door also, but they are just standing there. Theoretically they probably are supposed to make sure people wear masks, but I see mask-less customers walk right past them without getting stopped.
  • I've seen much lower numbers - around 17% reduction of transmission to the wearer and >90% reduction from the wearer to others.
  • This helps explain why the northeast U.S. is seeing so few cases now. Where I live (west TN), the county's mask ordinance expired Sept. 28 and wasn't being enforced for long before it expired. I was just at Wal-Mart and a local grocery store - both had around 10%-20% mask use despite store policies that require masks.…
  • It's a fair point, but wearing a mask does very little to keep them from catching it. Masks are most useful when someone is spreading when already infected - even if that person is asymptomatic, pre-symptomatic, or paucisymptomatic. What bugs me most about anti-maskers is that they are getting the benefit from those of us…
  • If you go way back in this thread, you will find stories of evidence. For example, a sewer water sample collected in Dec. 2019 in PA was tested and found to contain the virus. FWIW, new viruses don't just show up overnight. They usually spread around quite awhile in low levels before science realizes something new going…
  • There was a study published in 2017 about how much impact different choices have on the environment. I'm sure you can find it. Diet does have an impact, but not as much as a lot of other choices. The very worst choice in terms of environmental impact is to have a child. In fact, the 2nd worst choice has a tiny effect by…
  • That makes sense.
  • Those are the people who will go out and infect everyone else whether they have or have not been tested. The outcome is no different, except no testing means the numbers look better in total. If that is a big group, then maybe it could make a big difference on total numbers. The fact that they go out and spread it doesn't…
  • Similar here (west TN)... I haven't heard anything about appointments, but went to the local Walgreens around 6p yesterday and was able to get a flu shot with little wait. I didn't even think about an appointment. I just went when I can and took the chance as to whether I get poked by the pretty pharmacist this year.
  • Here (U.S.), adult patients have a whole lot of latitude to refuse treatment as long as they are of sound mind. However, people who are considered a threat to themselves or others may be held against their own wishes. I am not a constitutional law expert, but someone who has Covid and refuses to isolate or even wear a mask…
  • @SModa61 Maybe I'm mistaken, but I think "it" is supposed to be "The reason why Africa has had such a low infection rate..." The reason Africa has had such low numbers is likely because many people had SARS-COV-2 and were not tested or reported. The article explains that antibodies have been found in a big enough…
  • Fauci's comments about masks not helping was at a time when there was no known community spread in the U.S. The logic was that everyone coming from a country with community spread would self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. If it isn't out in the general population (so to speak), then that seems rational. He never said…
  • That's a fair point. He isn't invincible, but I still think he has better odds of surviving than someone otherwise the same except without the same access to care.
