I don't know but I went non-linear for about a week and put back on some hard-won lbs. I'm back on track now and feel a lot better about myself.

that is a great quote, I really relate to that!

yes, I think so. very inspiring!

I'm sort of the opposite - usually if I eat breakfast I feel faintly nauseated for an hour or so after. I seem to do better on am empty stomach until lunch. It's possible my habit of night eating comes from not eating much early in the day, but I think really it's just habit/boredom eating.

In the past step aerobics really worked for me. I used workout tapes at home. I need to get back to it once I get my knees to recover from soreness and stiffness.

[I didn't "cold turkey" anything, I do however, pre-log my day. If it isn't logged, it doesn't get eaten.] Thanks for that thought. Until the holidays that is what I was doing and I didn't think of it in terms of a strategy but it makes sense. My "mini" snack wasn't really the issue. It was the mindless grazing afterwards.

I really appreciate all the great advice and stories. thank you very much

I didn't think about wrapping my knees. thank you for the tip.

thank you very much for all the suggestions. My doctor suggested water aerobics so I should check with the local fitness center about classes. I'm not self-conscious about wearing a swim suit, the issue is more the time commitment. I had not thought about seeing a physical therapist. Tomorrow I will leave a message with my…

Ouch, I apologize for unthinkingly saying the wrong thing to tick off so many people. All I meant to say is that the restaurant business keeps coming up with new ways to increase fat and calories in readily available food. I think the American food landscape makes it hard to eat right, it takes effort to research better…

What is behind the specific number of inches you want to lose? Do you already have a dress and need to fit into it? If not can you ask yourself what if you reach your wedding day no thinner but in better mental health? Wouldn't that be a better situation than going off the rails emotionally in order to lose X inches?

I only like Chinese from Panda Express. It's fresh and light and they have all the calorie info I need. As another example I used to get the regular Chik Fil-A chicken sandwich but after I've been eating less fat it feels too greasy. I like the grilled chicken sandwich instead which is saying something because I"m not a…

I haven't had a cheat meal in a while because I haven't been to the movies, where I like to get a Coke and a small bag of chocolate candy. I guess it's good for me that I haven't felt like paying for any movies lately!

Meant to add, I find it hard to judge how much ice cream is in a cone. I bet there is more than I estimate.

Today I was looking at Fudgsicles at the grocery store. Those are pretty good and low calorie. The only reason I didn't buy any was the large size of the box, too big for our small freezer.

I'm confused why MFP is giving you a budget of 1200 calories. I'm at 210 lbs and a light exerciser and they give me 1680. It sounds to me like you eat super healthy but maybe too few calories?

just opened mine

I'm a lucky girl because my husband is a good cook and makes a lot of very healthy food (I usually have two vegetables plus salad for dinner for example). But for starch he usually makes very buttery garlic bread. That stuff is better than [name your preferred addictive substance]. So right now I'm doing a fair amount of…

I like Special K with fresh berries. I feel that I should be eating my Total Raisin Brand instead.

I'm surprised to read that so many people are budgeted 1200 calories by MFP. I guess I'm a big girl since my budget is 1680! But many days like today I eat good-for-me food and still come in under 1200. But I'm not yet on an exercise regime. About all I can say for myself is that I stand up all day (including at the…

OP: what it comes to sweets or other junky foods I think the question: really want it OR mindless gobbling. For years I've mainlined junk and much of the time I didn't even really want it. It was all about feeding my needy inner child. Instead I am now trying to make a reasoned effort to decide WHY I want a treat. I've cut…

Another WW veteran. I lost 30 lbs on the program but gained it back (my fault). I thought their database was great until I found MFP's which is better. Plus how can you beat free? One thing WW has is the meetings which frankly I think I could use. But this board has a lot of support and good ideas so don't really need to…

A few years ago I had two herniated discs and I could barely walk, forget working out. I do not remember if I gained weight due to inactivity. I didn't get the shots, I had surgery: instant relief except for the extreme pain from the incision site.

I'm at 210. For many years my setpoint was 140. With a lot of exercise and a lowfat diet I got down as low as the upper 120s if memory serves but I didn't keep it up. In my 40s I was just awful about eating. Now I'm in my 50s and get overwhelmed when I think about losing so much so I am trying to focus on smaller goals.…

A woman I've known for decades (at one time a co-worker) has always been tall and very thin. When I was spending time around her I could observe what she ate and it was very little. For example when going out to an Italian restaurant we had the pizza or whatever and she had the soup.

I must say it's pretty good to get these replies!

Just today I was reviewing my weight loss calendar from last fall and I lost 10 lbs from mid Nov to mid Dec. But I have 80 lbs to lose so it's a far cry from a person who is probably already at a healthy weight.
-
I was struck by the comments about how being too thin can make a face look old and gaunt. One time I saw a man after he had been on Jenny Craig and I really thought at first that he might be a cancer patient! He had changed that much. I want to lose a lot of weight but not end up looking like that.

No brilliant solution to what must be a common problem. All you can do is move on. I am your height, BTW, and I can't believe I would ever weigh 120!
-
it looks like you started out at about the weight I'm at now. How long did it take you to lose all the weight?
