If it hasn't been working why continue with it? Shakes aren't the way to go. Why not monitor what your eating instead? I've tried going the shake route as well years ago and it doesn't work. It's not sustainable. Eating well and exercise are.

Friend request sent! I've felt the same way but lately have seeing how out of shape I am when playing with my kids is giving me the extra motivation to get it in grear.

^^ This I find I am most successful when I pre log everything either at the beginning of the day or the night before. If I am working days I also must make my food for the day the night before or I won't be successful.

I turn 30 in May. Sigh. I am trying to kick it into gear right now as well.

Waste of money.

Keep your head up, you'll be back in no time! And kudos to your trainer, definitely a good call on that one.

Thank you so much for this post. The amount of detail you went into is amazing, and the calories in vs out with fitbit is something I hadn't even looked into but feel it will be a great source of motivation for myself. You are amazing!

I had L5-S1 decompression surgery for basically the same thing. Unfortunately for me I still have pain however I am at the point where I understand I can push through the pain and if I commit fully to exercise and eating right my pain will diminish rapidly.

I prefer cycling but that's only due to a family history of terrible knee's. Before my back surgery I would cycle multiple times a week, did the ride to conquer cancer (200KM). I can't wait to get back on the bike this summer.

Uhhhhhhhhhh....hahah

I had a back injury in May of 2013. I ended up having L5-S1 decompression after living with my sciatic nerve being pinched for about a year. My issue was compounded by the fact that 3 days before I was due for surgery there was a pipe burst at the hospital which flooded the brand new ORs. My surgery was pushed back by 6…

Add me! I am working on losing almost the exact same amount.

Add me!

I don't think here is the best option. Follow up with your doctor or physio.

Congrats man! Any information on how you did it? Definitely looking for some tips. We just need to swap that cardinals shirt out for a Patriots shirt.

Very inspirational, good job!!!

Thank you all for the great advice!

I agree on the bands, I have been using them. Also used them extensively in physiotherapy. Hoping to be able to expand on them now into free weights.

You can't paint everyone with the same brush. Some people can follow everything strictly and have a day or a meal where they stray and get back to it with no issues. You don't need to consider it a cheat meal however, you can still log everything, exercise portion control and still enjoy something you wouldn't necessarily…

Feel free to add this Canadian as well, eh!

It won't help with fitness at all but when I am hung over I need sugar. Sour Key's does it for me.
-
I don't understand the thought of putting a drug into your body when all that is needed is good food choices and exercise.
-
Age and starting weight are almost exactly where I am right now so this post helps a ton. If you have some time I would definitely like to pick your brain a bit regarding meals, exercise etc that you found worked well for you.

You definitely want to get a pair of bike shorts, you can find a pair that will work fine for spin class for less than $50. I used to cycling religiously but after hurting my back at work and having back surgery I have been off the bike for about 2 years. I started back at my first spin class in 2 years this week and…

You could try things like Squats or cycling. Cycling will build up your calves.

Hey Marj, I am sort of in the same situation as well. I hurt my back just over 2 years ago and had back surgery. I am back into working out now. I suggest finding something that you like, check out a local gym. For me and my back injury I love the spin classes. Hard work but I see great rewards from them and they are…

The last day I see logged in the diary is for Thursday and it was only logged under breakfast. Went over on Calories, Sugar, Carbs and way over on Fat as well. I would suggest mixing it up more. It looks like almost everything in the diary for Thursday is processed. Try more lean meats, fish, vegetables, fruits, etc. Also…

Also looking for active friends! Feel free to add me :)

I agree with the above poster, your best bet would be to get a food scale and weigh. I was in the same boat as you and noticed a huge difference when I started to weigh everything.
