  • You can do it - you've lost 20 pounds already. I like the idea of zig zagging, it seems like I do that sometimes naturally. Eat healthy (around 1200 cal) most days and a couple go ahead an have the great stuff, in moderation. Losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is a long term investment in…
  • WOW!! There are some really interesting ideas. I'm scared of putting friut in it, but so many of you like and recommend it, I will have to try it. And I never thought of just plain pepper, or mixing in dip-y spices. I'm not so sure of making a smoothie from it, but it's worth a shot. I like cottage cheese plain, but it…
  • Like others, I started on WW and lost 43 lbs to reach my goal weight and lifetime member. A friend introduced me to MFP, and at the beginning I did Points Plus and MFP. They were very close overall, and since MFP was free, I track only on MFP. I still attend monthly WW meetings since they're free to lifetime members (so I…
  • black forrest ham with , lettuce, tomato, peppers, cukes on 9 grain wheat (290 cals) plus Amer cheese (40 cals) for a total of 330 calories. i don't like mayos/dressings, so I skip that. The Subway website has a great and informative nutrition info...…

  • Someone commented about maybe tracking sugar intake. I find I can't each as much fruit as I would like; it just sticks on me. I need to treat fruit like a treat and eat more veggies (salad, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, etc) instead. Maybe your body/metabolism needs less sugar too. Good luck!
  • Popcorn with BUTTER - like 1/4 to 1/2 stick. I used to eat that once or twice a week (which of course attributed to my long term weigh gain). I have weaned myself to plain pan-popped popcorn with no butter. But once in a while I want the unhealthy butter on top, or movie popcorn with that oliy butter stuff. MMmmmm. It's…
  • Do eat or drink or take medication (the same thing) each night your throat feels tight? I have a food related allergy to raw baby carrots (and only RAW BABY) due to my allergy to Birch trees. When I eat raw baby carrots, my throat gets itchy and tight.... rest assured it's not fatal like a true food allergy. It could be…

  • Make sure the new extra calories are healthy items - cheese is a good item to add on. Maybe even whole fat if you're trying to add weight/muscel. Add it to some sort of wheat crackers or melt on corn chips and what a great treat!
  • I'm also surprised at no meat or dairy for you; Not even a hint of tofu! If it works and you're not hungry, you know your body. I too have to plan out to eat right. Breakfast week day mornings for me is a PB Zone bar and tea, lunch was low-fat cheese on lite wheat bread with lettuce & tomato salad and a side of watermelon.…
  • Hitting and staying on maintenance is tough. I also experienced continued loss for a couple weeks. I found it difficult to add food to my day... I just wasn't hungry. Over time, I have added food (to begin with too many "treat" foods, so have adjusted again). To maintain too, you will need to eat back most/all of the…
  • I am also an avid scrapbooker and have made many many for myself/family, and have done some as gifts. This next one is scary... I like to clean; I can completely zone out doing dishes or oranganizing a room, I'm not reaching for food, and there's a great sense of accomplishment when I'm done. All the other ideas are great…
  • Much of what people have already said, I would second.... WW and MFP are similar, need to make a life style change to be healthy, eat the right foods, exercise. I did WW and lost 40 lbs. Mantaining weight here on MFP is better since the tool is free and the WW online is not. I did compare WW to MFP for a while and also…
  • Per my hubby who's had one for 8 years.... definately helped overall. more energy, felt refreshed even after the first night. becuase more energetic, easier to work out (rather than falling asleep on the couch). as weight came off, needed less air flow/pressure from the machine. from me who had to deal wtih him before,…
  • I like routines. Weekday breakfasts I do eat the same thing and don't mind one bit - it's a protein bar mostly of out convenience (i can't be bothered to get up earlier to make eggs). Lunch often is a cheese sandwich and salad. Dinner changes, but I like plain foods so there's noth much to be done with plain old grilled…
  • We met at a college leadership outing back in 1993. One night of the long weekend, he went for a walk, so I invited myself to go with him. Of course, even before that night as I was waiting with the others by the van, I saw him walk across the campus with a mutal friend. I knew then that was it! We married in 1999, and now…
  • First, congrats on the great start to a healthier life!!! For your daugher, look up the food pyramid and other great info on http://www.choosemyplate.gov/. Teach her the same things you learned... more fresh fruit/veggies, lean meats/cheeses, whole grains, dairy, and of course the occassional treat. She should eat…
  • I had the same problem when I started exercising. Try low fat cheese and wheat crackers - a good lean protien and a carb. Or go for shredded cheese on corn chips (bake @ 350 till cheese melted) or low fat popcorn. Good luck!
  • OMG! These were the best reading. The metalic panties, 3 forks, and vibrating duck... wow. Thanks all for sharing. My "best" gift was a wedding gift and I don't even remember who it's from. It was a shaped candle... a two tiered water fall wtih rocks around the bottom and plastic seagulls stuck in it. Glad I paid $100 a…
  • Bruins!!!! (hopefully)
  • How do I upload a photo to a reply?
  • Working out is YOUR time, and you deserve time for yourself and deserve to be healthy and happy.
  • Facinating question and responses. I always stuck to one diet soda a day or maybe two, and was able to loose 40 pounds and reach my goal. Though I have been reading articles about how even one diet soda a day can raise your risk for diabetes and other health diseases. According to one article, diet is worse than "regular"…
  • My hubby bought me a Sportline for my birthday. Someone else mentioned it... I also don't notice the chest strap. And it works well with the equipment at the gym.
  • Just watched the Steam Engine link posted - pretty neat. And tried them. Easy to do, even while watching the Bruins game tonight! Also - most zumba "dances" work core/abs.
  • Ground chicken (98% fat free) taco seasoning, 2 ortega taco shells, chopped tomatoes, lettuce, fat free sour cream. Sometimes I skip the shells and just wrap it all in a large lettuce leaf. Works well with beef, and also as asian flavor especially with the lettuce shells. My 8 year old son even loves taco night.
  • @ Bergeron's finger calorie count - LMAO!!!!! Great one! GO BRUINS.
  • Stick with it! I agree with the comments from the other ladies. Weigh yourself once a week, trying for the same time of day each week. I've seen my body fluctuate 2-3 pounds in a day and by the end of my week, I'm OK. Again, be sure to eat no less than 1200 calories, including exercies (so if you eat 1400, burn 400, that's…
  • My husband LOVES them. He's got like four sets now. He says he doesn't ever want to wear regular sneakers again. Minimal arch support he says - it's like walking or running barefoot, allowing your toes to grip.
  • I think sharing a life together means sharing lots, including making heathy choices. If he's a "fixer" type - suggest to him he help plan meals and/or cook; let me in on the program. I agree with some others that it's OK to discuss healthy food choices and exercise in front of the kids... you want them to develop healthy…
  • Every so often I decaffinate... it's toughest for the first week or two. Maybe instead of cutting out the caffeine all at once, gradually wean yourself off. Start with a one shot instead of double for a few days, then regular coffee (no shots), then decaf. Besure to drink lots of water and other healthy liquids. Good luck.…
