Losing slower is more about making this a lifestyle change than trying to drop X amount of pounds as fast as possible so you can go back to the way you used to eat (and eventually return to your original weight). Theoretically, you could figure out how many calories it would take you to maintain your goal weight and then…

This is truth. Weight loss is made in the kitchen, not the gym. Focus on your food intake; the gym is for fitness, not weight loss. Keep in mind that you don't need to avoid or eat certain foods to lose weight, either. It's not what you're eating, it's how much that matters. There are only a few simple things you need to…

Especially in a zombie virus plague. I only have to be faster than the slowest person in my group right? That's what inspired me to take up running. @lista10, motivation waxes and wanes. Rather than looking for motivation work on building good habits and routines. There are certainly mornings when I wake up and think "No,…

For some unknown reason, I and my co-workers experienced much less muscle soreness than usual after this year's shot. Normally, I'm still feeling it for several days after when I do things like lean against a wall. I lifted the afternoon of having mine, by the way; it's never been a problem before, either.

No, what? Useless post, IMHO.

PBR is a favorite but I've been drinking that for a long time, too. Thanks to the hipsters who have made it more available.

I saw quinoa milk in a 99 cent store this past weekend and almost fell over. Might be something for you to try. I actually like quinoa if it's mixed into rice or something but by itself the texture is a bit much for me after a few bites. I avoid foods labeled "organic" or "non-GMO" like the plague. Those are just fancy…

This. Sugar does not making people fat, too many calories does. What you eat doesn't matter for weight loss, how much you eat does. Simply stick to your MFP calorie goal every day, try to move more and you should have success.

I have actually asked very few people to friend me. Because I'm in the forums a lot I get a lot of requests, though. If I feel like I might be able to help on a long term basis, I'll accept, otherwise I don't. The funny thing is, I often end up unfriending many of those people later because while they post a lot: 1. it…

Definitely. I've been doing the slow recomp for a couple of years. I definitely look better and while now at a higher weight fit into the same clothes I was wearing when I weighed 10 pounds less.

If you simply eat without keeping track can you be successful at weight loss? I'd have to think not or you wouldn't have ended up here trying to lose weight in the first place, right? You'll need to devise a plan for yourself that will work for you without making you obsessive. The thing about weight loss is that you have…

My employer uses the same program. It's easy to get the maximum award ($250) each year if you just sync an activity tracker and go about your normal day. If you do the cards and habits, actually walk 7000+ steps per day, log your sleep and track your food you can get the max award each quarter within the first month or so.…

Just wait. The closer you are to a healthy weight the more precise you need to be. You may need that scale yet.

A lot has already been said. I am sure I will reiterate some. There's no reason to deprive yourself of the foods you love while you're losing weight. You can eat ANYTHING you want while doing it, you just need to teach yourself the proper portions and calorie content so you can eat those foods and lose weight. It's all…

If you're talking mile for mile, it's running because it takes more work to run a mile than to cycle it. If you're talking time, however, much of that will depend on the level of effort. A person running at 5 mph will burn less calories per hour than a person running at 9 mph. The same for cycling and effort. All of that…

Not at all. After awhile you'll get much more adept at eyeballing portions and realizing which things you really don't need to weigh. Most veggies have very few calories and being spot on for a 10 calorie difference isn't really worth the effort of weighing, IMHO. You'll also get a feel for which packaged foods are better…

This is so true. Just think of the times when you've minorly injured a foot or ankle. You limp around on it and suddenly your knee or hip hurts. You've placed undue stress on a different area to compensate for the pain and if you continue to limp around you could end up with a significant issue in the new area.

It really depends on the type of aches and pains. I had a biopsy taken from my foot three weeks ago. I figured out a way to run without too much pain from the pressure of my shoes but it's simply a skin injury and the pain is from the pressure and rubbing of my shoe against it. I'm not going to do myself damage. I…

I'm going to be blunt... you can believe as much as you want that you're estimating everything correctly but the fact is you aren't losing weight so something is off. Hopefully, using the HRM will help if it's the exercise calories that are currently being overestimated. Otherwise, I'd highly suggest a kitchen scale. I can…

As long as increasing your calories means you'll be eating a little of the foods that you might have been denying yourself earlier and that was what was triggering binges.... yes that sounds okay. I agree with @cmriverside. The goal should be to eat as much as you can while still losing weight. This shouldn't be a race to…

Sure there is, it's called liposuction. @rougenoire, as others have said you can't target a specific area. Your genetics determine where you will store the most fat and that area is usually the last to go. All you can do is continue to focus on losing weight in general and in time your stomach will shrink, as well.…

The types of food you eat (healthy) and the amount of water you drink won't affect your ability to lose weight. You need to be eating fewer calories than you burn. Period. That's all it takes it for the vast majority of us. If you aren't losing weight the simple truth is that you aren't eating fewer calories than you're…

It shouldn't have an impact on your belly, no, and as we've said the time of day you eat has NO impact. Switching up exercise shouldn't have an impact on your belly, either, as long as you are still eating a deficit. I wouldn't judge by looks alone. How do your pants fit?

I travel for work 12 days at a time and I haven't brought either scale with me. Of course, the difference is that I'm flying so that would take up a lot of my weight allowance. I'd worry less about the bathroom scale than the kitchen scale to be honest. 12 days isn't really that long and it might be good practice to see if…

5 - 6 hours a day is not enough sleep and getting enough sleep is an important component of weight loss. Lack of sleep causes other problems, as well. You should be trying for at least 7 hours. I know that can be difficult with kids but set yourself either an earlier bedtime or a later waking time. Whatever you're doing…

That sounds like it could be some sort of allergic reaction. Are the spots itchy, too? You might try some Benadryl and see if they don't clear up. If you want to try to isolate it eat all of the same kind of food until it is gone and then try another. Don't switch back and forth. Watch for a reaction. If it happens again…

Are you actually tummy-rumbling hungry or do you just want to eat? There's a huge difference between the two and how to help. If you're always actually hungry then eat smaller meals more often and make sure you aren't only eating simple carbs that digest quickly and leave you hungry soon after. Add more protein, fat and…

The time of day that you eat has absolutely no impact on weight loss so don't let that part of it cause you any worry at all. Anything you've ever heard about not eating after a certain time of day doesn't apply to people counting calories. It applies to people who have already eaten their maintenance calories by…

My plans just got derailed. Diagnosed with melanoma and the spot is on my left heel. I've been running (it hurts less to run in shoes than to walk in them!) since my biopsy at the beginning of the month but I have to have a good deal more skin around the area removed which will require stitches and will take weeks…

As long as you are healthy it really doesn't matter what size you are as long as you're comfortable and happy. Most people who say the types of mean things you're hearing are insecure and that makes their comments more about them than you. You really don't need people like that in your life. A size 8 is not large. As long…
