Lolol, thank you. It's not the most correct use of the quote, but seems rather appropriate here.

Well, wtf... I was getting cyber-yelled-at for drinking 1-2 cups? I have coffee or tea in the morning, and if the day is super-stressful maybe a diet soda. And apparently it's a health problem. Ugh. That's why I lie on those surveys. I don't smoke, I barely ever consume alcohol, (maybe a drink or two a month), I work out…

Ah, the fat hypothesis that just won't die. Oh well. Let them eat cake.

I get a nice and involved health assessment survey a few times a year. I just started imputing the information directly from MyPlate. As far as they know I eat 9-11 servings of "heart-healthy whole grains". I get physicals, and I don't have any issues, so I don't feel super guilty about it. Last time the survey gave me…

@Sunny_Bunny_ , sorry I misread your original comment. I fixed it. I'm pretty sure both elite athletes and regular people would get similar results, but I'm very curious as to the burn rates and the factors. Basically I want to know if I need to train more or eat less carbs or do something else to increase the efficiency…

1. Avoid food waste/too much eating out - check. Stayed within my limits 2. Get 7 hours of sleep a night - No. So much stress and things to do with work and in-laws coming to town 3. Drop another 2-3lb before the end of the month - So far I doubled that. 4. Send out at least one resume a week - no, see #2 On to week #4!
-
The rate might be different. I'd love to know the rate and if it depends on fitness levels or fat adaptation levels.
-
I don't know about #7. I do magnesium/potassium, but only because it's hard to get them from food.
-
I'd like to see this done with people who are not pro and semi pro athletes to see how this will translate to the general population.

@wabmester there were an interesting discussion about this study elsewhere on the interwebs, they mentioned that the keto-adapted athletes' VO2 maxes were out of the ordinary as well?

I have about as many problems with the whole HAES movement and "#effyourbeautystandards" as with the fat loss shows. It's one thing not to ridicule obesity or put down people suffering from it, it's another thing to glorify, promote and normalize it. Obesity is a symptom of illness, we should treat it as such.
-
@wabmester, no I haven't, but now I got something to listen to for the two hours I'll be stuck in traffic on my way home.

I guess I'm the only one sitting back with eyes glazed over repeating to myself 'bonk-proof marathon, bonk-proof marathon, bonk-proof marathon' like some sort of a magical mantra. I will run my half marathon fasted, with no icky gels, at a steady rate, while burning FAT. Squee! Now here is a question... they only ran the…

This says nothing about the need to work out, just that those who do endurance workouts and are fat-adapted get their energy from body fat easier than those who are sugar-burners. Am I saying this correctly, @wabmester?

you have no idea how much I'm geeking out right now. I already have a giant list of questions. Weren't they going to do a similar study on strength athletes as well?

They'll just switch to the Oprah/WW methods of advertising... You can take this pill and have bread! Bread every day!

Can't open it :( And I really wanted to read it too. Been waiting on it for a while.

See, that's my biggest belief... we all need to take care of ourselves and take control over our own health. I suffered with various ailments as well as outright scorn from the doctors for years before I figured out what was wrong with me, and got my very reluctant doctor to run my tests.

I like them soft, I mush them up and put it on top of everything I would put cheese on. Since I'm trying to cut out dairy, creamy avocado works very well. Also, frying it in very hot butter can make yummy home fries - crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

I think people who are not as severely obese look at it and think, oh, I'm good, because I'm not as fat as that guy/gal. I think people enjoy watching train wrecks because it makes their own lives seem better. edit: You know what, I'm sorry. It's a very negative view of the world. People watch those shows for information…

Yeah, well... here is how someone explained it to me: we as a society view weight gain as a result of sloth and gluttony. Sloth and gluttony are deadly sins, and the sinner must 'suffer' to atone for them. This is why easy, effortless, hunger-less weight loss is so hard to believe in for people, and also why shows like…

1. Avoid food waste/too much eating out 2. Get 7 hours of sleep a night 3. Drop another 2-3lb before the end of the month 4. Send out at least one resume a week On Wednesday my water heater exploded, soaking my whole condo, so there went #1 and #2. Wednesday night I got a lettuce-wrapped burger from mcdonalds, because…

You guys are so... not judge-y. Thank you.

I tend to eat veggies only one meal a day, which is lunch, so I don't get comments about them, but I've gotten into legitimate fights with people about the health benefits of fruits. They're called nature's candy for a reason, folks.

I, on the other hand, am always colder as I drop weight. When I get to my goal weight I'll probably be wearing a parka when the weather hits the 80s.

A weekend ago I bought new pants in a size smaller then the smallest ones I own. They were snug, and I needed to breathe in to button them up. Well, I am wearing them today, and I had no trouble buttoning them. I didn't even remember I had my 'small' pants on until after my 4th bottle of water. Holding my fingers crossed…

I'm drinking a diet coke right now. I have one every once in a while when stress gets to me. Better a can of diet coke then the contents of the office candy jar.
-
@camtosh , most of the comments I read were positive and fairly well thought out? The article is fabulous.

@Sunny_Bunny_ I guess it depends what your definition of 'recovered' is? I think a lot of people would think that it would mean to be able to go back to SAD, or at least to 300g of carbs in their diet, and still stay thin. I don't think that would be the case.

@jobean12, the keto strips are extremely inaccurate, results can depend on hydration levels, and a lot of times as your body gets more efficient at burning fat for fuel you stop excreting many ketones in your urine. I would not worry about the keto sticks, and test either blood or breath.
