  • A legitimate athlete, to me, is someone who trains multiple times a day and therefore need to take advantage of glycogen replenishment, nutrient timing, etc. I don't think advance principles applies to someone who doesn't train multiple times a day. If you are like this then it i swor I also don't think it's unrealistic to…
  • Don't delve into extremes. Everything breaks down when you go into extremes in the nutritional world. Now, let's say you haven't ate all day, hypothetically. There is nothing wrong with consuming all your calories in a single. There are some issues with one meal a day but the idea is that meal frequency is not as important…
  • I have to legitimately ask. What's unhealthy about mac and cheese?
  • I haven't seen a single "not-so-healthy" food listed.
  • How many of you restrict yourself from specific foods on a regular basis, i.e. you adhere to clean eating, believe in bad foods, etc.?
  • My girlfriend is almost 5'9" and 135lbs and she looks great. I think 175 is quite high and I would agree that 150 is good for a woman. You are underestimating what 175 is and you'll probably be carrying too much body fat at that weight. What I think you should do is set your goal (which is 175) and assess once you're there…
  • Do you know Layne Norton is? He believes the constant saturation has negative impact on protein synthesis and, as a result, has extended time between his meals 4-5 hours a part with free-form amino acids in between meals. And if you're not exercising in the morning then breaking your fast in the morning means **** all.
  • This is the reason why I explained you can't define clean. By your definition, tofu, protein powders, dairy products, canned foods (such as tuna), whole grains (namely whole grain breads), etc. are all the opposite of clean since they are all heavily processed. Yet, we know for a fact, that these things are not unclean, so…
  • Kids are different than adults. Also, that's merely a correlative example. We have no idea if breakfast truly caused better score increases. There could be other potential variables, which is why studies established correlations are the grounds for more specific studies. This means we should look at studies that…
  • You don't know how unreliable he is, do you? He's most known for his study done with Scivatiion on Xtend and its efficacy. Apparently it was suppose to get published but guess what? No dice. He has an agenda, so his advice is sketchy at best. More intelligent, less-agenda driven individuals have disproven most of his…
  • I feel super bloated but then I remember how much awesomeness it was consuming mass quantities of gyoza, spicy tuna rolls, and fried milk. I'm not going to go to an all-you-can-eat place and not binge! Well, actually, I wonder if it counts as a binge if I knowingly consume mass quantities of food but could not do it if I…
  • Good protein powder doesn't taste bad, so if you think protein powder tastes bad then don't buy a ****ty brand. Problem solved. Also, you don't need protein in the morning and you don't need breakfast. The fact that people here are indulging you with this is just silly. I have only ate food in the morning (I eat breakfast…
  • People use protein powder for all the wrong reasons. The best reason to use is it is to give you a convenient, affordable source of protein. There are some unique benefits to protein powders but, in the end, it's an easy way to get protein. A good protein can't have over 25g of protein per serving unless it's double…
  • Foot long steak and cheese with double cheese, double meat with tons of chipotle southwest. HOT DAMN! I love that.
  • Don't do a low carb diet. Easy as pie.
  • lol give me a break. Go ahead and give me a clear cut, explicit definition of clean. I expect something that isn't remotely arbitrary or ambiguous. I'll save you time: you can't. Besides, you're paleo. Let's be real now.
  • Yes, ephedrine is illegal in the States but it isn't in Canada. You can get bronkaid. Even then, you can just use caffein and yohimbine (which is legal in the States but illegal in Canada. Funny how that works!). Yohimbine is good for "stubborn" fat.
  • If you want to keep it low cal then the decision to go sashimi and nigiri are easily your best option. But, let's be honest now. Do you want to go out for sushi and don't have an awesome spicy tuna roll? or a tempura roll? It's one night. If you keep your cals low throughout the day, you'll be fine. Just throwing out that…
  • I agree and it also shows how positive weight loss is on health. But, unfortunately, people on MFP misconstrue my position as one for mass consumption of nutrient-deficient foods. People cannot comprehend moderation for some reason. Also, food isn't the only thing that factors into life. Emotional and psychological…
  • Save your money and look elsewhere. All meal replacement shakes are a sham. Just make your own. It's so damn easy. Grab some whey, throw in some frozen berries, add a liquid and you're off. Why pay for a shoddy shake?
  • I don't believe there is such thing as a good or bad carb. These words provide positive and negative connotations. I hate this silly association that some foods are bad and some foods are good. There is no such thing. You can literally wreck your diet with anything regardless if it's broccoli or gummy bears. Do you realize…
  • Protein powders don't do anything except add protein. The only supplement that helps a lot for fat loss is yohimbine, ephedrine, and caffeine. Fish oil has some apparent benefits as well, some of which can pertain to fat loss. If you're magnesium deficient then supplemental magnesium can help in terms of recovery and…
  • I've actually had popcorn that was not calculated on the label correctly. It was something like 120 calories for half the bag but adding the macros it came out to almost 300. That could be a possibility? There's an error somewhere, whether the label or MFP or something else. Something didn't have the right amount of…
  • Does not exist in my vocabulary. Cheat days have negative connotations and I don't believe in negativity with food. I also don't believe in healthy and unhealthy foods either, only unhealthy and healthy diets.
  • White country style bread with red wine braised short ribs, caramelized mushrooms and onions, arugula, and bel paese.
  • Someone probably didn't put the right amount of calories for the macronutrients available. Some people on here calculate calories for fibre since fibre is around 2-2.5 calories per gram (I think), so that can really screw things up. I've learned to double check everything if I'm using someone else's nutrition facts.
  • I cannot give up anything. But I have no problem with other people giving up stuff. More for me. :p
  • To reiterate, I have not seen evidence of a protein type but only a low-fat and high-fat phenotype. Almost all people who increase protein on a caloric deficit have shown far superior body composition than their lower counterparts. Increasing protein regardless will improve body composition assuming it's low to begin with.…
  • I still eat like that on occasion, especially if I'm on a bulk since I'm required to eat in excess of 3000 calories. Don't see anything particularly wrong with it. I hit up all-you-can-eat sushi three times in a month back in December. Damn. I love food.
