I've done and wondered the same. An hour on the stationary bike would tell me I had burned off 1000 cals, but I think that is not the case. I think it's more like 7-10 cals per minute, so if you did 60 mins on the bike you would burn between 420-600 calls. Big difference from what the bike says.
