  • "Also if you are exercising try and make sure you eat back some of the loss (I always lower the report level and then target to come in 100 or so below the added total. And as pointed out make sure you measure the oil you use (a tablespoon of olive oil is 119 calories alone)" [/quote] I'm wondering how you calculate how…
  • I'm wondering how you calculate how many net carbs to add back in after exercising? Is there a formula? I'm not mathematically minded. According to my HRM, I regularly burn between 750-900 calories per hour doing Zumba, and I'm trying to keep my net carbs at 20, and my total daily calories at 1650. Can you help? Thank you.…
  • I follow the Atkins plan, so, yeah, I eat them every day. Cookie dough isn't my favorite, but I don't think it's horrible. I don't eat foods made with sugars, so I guess I'm used to sugar substitute. Of course, I'm not allergic to sweeteners, so it wouldn't effect me like it did you.... The Atkins bars are not cheap.…
  • OP, did you follow the Atkins plan correctly? If so, you should be in Maintenance phase, and you should have learned what your daily amount of carbs is that you can eat to maintain (not lose or gain weight). I would suggest that you work your way through the plan. You can have a piece of cake or sandwiches, but if it puts…
  • Yes, thank you! I suck at math, and I've wondered the same :)
  • The mental aspect of giving myself these "rewards" kills it for me. I've found that if I cheat from my low-carb diet, even for a weekend, it takes me 4-5 days to get the weight back off. That is if I get directly back to my low-carbing. I can usually talk myself into taking a whole week, then just another, etc. Way easier…
  • I bought a HRM, too, and I wear it for every class. I'm consistently burning 800-950 calories an hour, depending on if I know all of the songs or if we're learning new stuff.
  • You're welcome to add me. I've eaten the Atkins life-style for over 2 years! I do not share my diary, but feel free to ask me any questions about Atkins! Good luck!
  • The nutrition labels in the US list total carbs and then fiber, so we have to do the math ourselves. (lol) This looks like something I'll try. I'm always looking for ways to use my flax seed, and I love a good sandwich, too!
  • Do a Google search for recipes with almond meal or almond flour. There are a ton!
  • Pork rinds are great for snacks, dipping, and replacing for bread crumbs in meatloaf or meatballs. Almond meal flour and whey protein powder are great when you want to replace white flour for baking.
  • The first thing you should do is buy a book, do some research. There are several different low-carb diets, and each have different plans, but the commonality is that they all steer you away from processed foods, wheat and flour products, sugars and foods high in starch.
  • Congrats on your weight loss! That's an impressive loss! So, my suggestion would be to try to avoid the bars, or anything with sugar alcohols for a week, and see if that's your trigger that's making you stall. Up your water intake, exercise and try to snack on other things. If you're still stalling, try eliminating a…
  • Yes, these are good! Also, Google "parmesan cheese crisp". I've actually folded them up when they are still warm from the oven, and ate them like mini-taco shells. Another really easy snack are pork rinds. You can dip them in most dips that are 1-2 carbs for 2 tbsp. I dip in salsa, Gordo's cheese dip, sour cream & onion…
  • I discovered that I can still go to Starbucks every so often. I order an iced coffee with sugar-free syrup, a little half-n-half (about 1 carb), and some whipped cream topping (2 carbs). The sugar-free syrup says no carbs, but I count it as 1.
  • This is true. You have to have the mind-set of making it a life-style change. Of COURSE if I go back to eating the way I ate before (which is why I put on the weight to begin with), I will put the weight back on. When I quit doing Weight Watchers, I gained my lost weight back.
  • All right, I'll be the one proponent of Atkins on this thread. Atkins works, and it works long term if you stick to the plan. It is perfectly healthy to eat this way, as I have been for more than 2 years. Please go out and buy yourself a copy of the book and read it. A good book is Atkins Essentials. Very handy. My advice:…
  • Exactly. I don't eat fast food a lot, but when I do, I just order a burger w/o the bun or "secret sauces". Carl's Jr offers a protein burger. In-n-Out offers a burger "protein style", but honestly, if I'm driving 12 hours for In-N-Out Burger, I'm getting my Double Double Animal Style w/ fries and milk shake, too. LOLOL!

  • Everyone of you posting here look great, and it's encouraging to see that a lot of you have maintained the low-carb lifestyle! Thank you for the encouragement to keep going this way. Whether it's about caloric intake or not, cutting down on bad carbs and avoiding sugars and processed foods seems to make me feel better…
  • Nope, it doesn't. I lost 67 pounds, got preggers, hormones went crazy, I ate every bad thing I could get my hands on, miscarried a few months later, went into a depression, didn't give a crap about my body for a year, gained some weight back, and half-assed maintained for over a year. Now I'm getting serious about weight…
  • I've been eating this way (low carb for me = about 20 net carbs a day) for about 3 years and feel great. But, according to a lot of people on this site, I shouldn't feel great, I should be having a hard time maintaining, and I should have put all of the weight back on and then some. I should feel sluggish and lethargic.…
  • I don't know about the above posters, but I keep mine at 20-25 NET carbs. I've sustained it for a while now. Don't know why people think this can't be done. I eat a boat load of salad, veggies and healthy fats.

  • It is definitely a lifestyle change! I've been eating Atkins/low-carb for going on 3 years, and I've never felt better! Feel free to friend me. Also, there are some groups here specifically for Atkins and low carb...just do a search. A nice little shelter from the nay-sayers and negative comments from people who have no…
  • I entered the recipe, and didn't come up with your numbers. Also, how did the pancake stay together? What happens if I don't separate the whites and yolks? I want to try this!
  • Jellybeans come in all of the colors. Just kidding! LOL. You're right, eat lots of veggies, eat lean protein, eat healthy fat. Avoid white carbs, avoid processed foods. Excercise. Drink lots of water.
  • That's what I'm talking about. I stay around 20 net carbs, but most of those are coming from salads and veggies. I have cut out processed foods, and I eat no wheat, pasta, rice, or potatos.
  • I'm at 20-25 net carbs a day, for the last 2 years. Very easy to maintain, and plenty of energy to spare.
  • I lost quite a bit of weight on Atkins, and ate an Atkins bar every night. I've heard, and even the Atkins book and web site say if you're stalling, cut out the bars. They contain sugar alcohols which effect everyone differently. I agree with the others. Quit the bar's for a week, and see if you start losing again.
  • Not to put words in this person's mouth, but my take away from the comment was that there's more to the story than calories in/calories out. That's not the *only* formula--there are more factors at play here. IMO.
