Well, that explains why I haven't been able to find it for weeks and weeks. Told myself it was just the app, that it'd still be on the computer, but it's not. I really enjoyed it, in a way I don't the message boards. Message boards are painfully 90's for me, and I'm here for the PAL part as well as the fitness. Way to make…

Homemade primavera-type sauce (reduced sodium, super-tasty!), cheese crisps, Dreamfield's pasta mixed with julienned carrots, and a chicken sausage.

[/URL] Asiago and parmesan, ground/crumbled in the processor with herbs, then measured out in quarter ounce piles and baked into crisps.

That's swordfish, roasted butternut, grilled bell pepper, grilled yellow squash, grilled onion, grilled zucchini, and steamed sugar snap peas. Edited to show the swordfish :-)

Are your triglycerides getting better (if they were bad)? My A1c sticks between 5.4 and 5.8, and my blood sugar is diet-controlled, but my triglycerides/cholesterol numbers are wonky, and I'm wondering if the sugars part of those carbs are a problem, lipid-profile-wise? You're an inspiration! I have another 130 or so to…

Thanks! I'm actually not asking how to get my sugars lower because my carbs are well controlled and I have no problems with my blood sugar or A1c. I'm asking if complex vs simple sugars will make a difference, triglycerides-wise, and if I need to worry about the sugars part of my carbs or if just keeping my carbs…

Terrific responses! I actually do only pay attention to carbs, regardless of their source, which is why my A1c is routinely good and i dont have any wild spikes in blood sugar. But recently I've noticed that, while my carbs are good, my sugars are "high," and wanted to get some feedback on whether or not this should…

My concern is this--some sites make a clear connection between sugars and triglycerides, especially in diabetics. Other sites say that's only for refined sugars, and that I don't need to worry if it's fruits, veggies, and whole grains that are bringing in the sugars. While I keep my carbs well in check, my sugars always…

That's how I've felt about it, but I have concerns about my triglycerides, cholesterol, and the like, and I worry that there could be a connection. I keep refined sugars to a minimum, but I'm still concerned. Incredibly irritating, how interconnected things can be. Unfair, and I want a do over. :-) Kris

And you got these drops . . . where? From a DOCTOR? Because they're not available legally, and the crap in the stores isn't HCG. There are BS products they CALL HCG, ridiculous "homeopathic" concoctions, but not real HCG. Either way, real or fake, it's a BS scam--you lose the weight because you're drastically reducing your…

Yep, yep--you can find qualified nutritionists, but you have to really look at their credentials/education. http://eatrightdc.org/dietitian-vs-nutritionist/

Thank you. I think I was just hoping to see a change ala some miraculous self-help book or video when, in fact, it's going to take longer than 4-5 weeks. Kris

So, I dug through old scans backed up to disk and found my blood work from 2009. The cholesterol/triglyceride numbers are completely insane. Here are my numbers from 2009, 2012, and 2013, respectively: 2009: CHOL 163 LDL 77.8 HDL 29 TRIG 281 (!!) CHOL/HDL Ratio 5.6 2012: CHOL 190 LDL 130 HDL 33 TRIG 136 2013: CHOL 207 LDL…

My A1c is holding steady at a good place. Kris

Again, I appreciate the effort you've taken (I truly do--it's very kind of you to take the time and trouble). However, for every "low carb vegan" idea that comes my way (or paleo-type gig), there's an avalanche of research that tells me to increase my whole grains to lower my cholesterol, especially oats. Since my grains…

Same for me--I weigh everything from pasta (2 ounces per serving) to butternut. It really does make all the difference. Congratulations on your new tool/toy! Kris

ROFL, you sound like me, except I'm not going Vegan, but rather more vegetarian/pescatarian. However, my rule is this--if I like a food and it does the job, it can be vegan and I'll be happy with that. So my "bologna" is now vegan, my melty-cheddar for my meat-free/fake beef tacos is vegan, etc. I haven't been eating…

Well, I think that what I've gotten out of this (thank you, everyone) is that I need to give it more time before I make any hard and fast decisions about the effect of my new dietary ways. I'll continue looking into it, and keep working at making it as rounded and healthful as I can. Thanks, folks. I feel less discouraged…
-
Oooh, thank you! Until I started eating this way, I'd never heard the term "Pescatarian." Kris

Sorry, didn't mean cardiac, meant kidney! Kris

Thank you for the really thoughtful response! I think you may be right on the fish oil--the research is promising, but I'd rather get it from the food than from a bottle. I don't like beef, pork, or lamb enough to give up those calories, i.e., there are things I would rather be eating, things I feel confident are better…

That's a good thought. If she refuses, I'll do exactly that. Kris

Sadly, Jenni, I cannot inspire a physician to test more than my TSH--and I have asked. For years, I've asked. But my insurance will not cover the test, so doctors won't administer it because they say it's not called for. I haven't asked THIS doctor, so, when I see her again in six months, I'll specifically request it.…

I've added fatty nuts, flax, olive oil, and, of course, veggies and fruits, but adding meats isn't just counterintuitive to me, it's out of the question for me. I am diabetic, my body handles saturated fats differently than a non-diabetic. Eating meat frequently and not restricting saturated fats over the years is what led…

Good thinking, but I actually keep my carbs well controlled--not "Atkins" restricted, but low enough that my blood sugar is controlled through diet. Even on nights I have whole grains, my total carbs per meal are kept in a reasonable range and my blood sugar doesn't spike. I know a lot of folks are into the "eat more…

Worth investigating, but my energy levels have actually increased dramatically since I upped the whole grain and fruits/veggies. I feel better, more alive, less tired, more energetic. Kris

This was very helpful, thank you! Kris
