SUGAR!
As a kid growing up, I watched my diabetic mom and her diabetic father poring over labels, trying to avoid SUGAR, all the while totally missing what CARBS do to your blood sugar. When I was diagnosed diabetic in 2011, I immediately began watching carbs, knocking my A1c down from 6.9 to 5.4 in just a few months. It's still…

Seriously discouraged
So, I've lost 31 pounds in the past few months. For the past 36 days, I've worked out four-five days a week (at least 40 minutes a day), have cut out ALL meat but omega-3-rich fish, have kept my calories, carbs, and cholesterol under control (as well as my sodium). I've taken all the "right" supplements (sterols and…

Funny NSV
My feet have shrunk. In a HUGE way. I've gone from Men's size 10EEEE to Men's size 8D. Still Bigfoot, but my poor feet aren't swollen and flopping about like a clown's. Kris

successful pig-out
So I've been on a total munch-fest this morning, but I count it a victory anyway. Instead of 4 bowls of cereal, a pint of ice cream, or a half a box of macaroni and cheese, I've had 24 almonds, 2 string cheeses (Weight Watchers--fifty cals), three slices of honeydew, and two boiled eggs. What does that mean? Well, at the…

Almost certainly a "silly question"
For those in the know, but it occurred to me and I want to know. When I do my little dumbbell curls, I've been counting them as, say, four sets, 30 reps. But that's per arm--should I count it, then, as eight sets, four per arm? Silly, I know. But I thought I'd throw it out there. Kris

Wow, that stings
Didn't find this posted before--I'm a little surprised (and horrified) by the results here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/27/men-leave-weight-gain_n_911143.html?1311788898&icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl6|sec1_lnk3|81595

Is it a lifestyle change?
Or is it a "until I reach this goal" thing? For me, it's forever. It has to be. See, I've done the "just until I lose the weight" gig, and had my weight see-saw by over 150 lbs in one stretch (my weight, overall, has varied from 102 to 377 over my adult years). So this is always for me--not until I lose 80, not until…

Grammar Police
The number one rule when attacking others for their grammar? Make sure yours is impeccable. Otherwise? Keep it to yourself, because when your punctuation is lazy (or near-non-existent) and you seem confused by the whole "your" versus "you're" thing, you come across looking ten kinds of stupid when you insult others for…

Faux Support
So I have this female person in my life, right? Whenever I mention that I'm losing weight or that my A1c is down, she gets this tight, almost rictus-like smile and said, "That's nice--I'm happy for you." Yet she spends more time than can possibly be healthy for her trying to convince me that I'm miserable. "Don't you feel…

Chili's and other restaurants
I've been noticing a few folks listing Chili's dishes at markedly fewer calories than they actually have. Please make sure you check the restaurant's site for nutritional information (if they have it), and remember that places like Chili's are sneaky--they sometimes list the calories for the parts of a dish separately. In…

NSV, and I feel sort of strange about it
My poor little niece is quite heavy for her height and age, and is getting heavier every day. Finding nice clothes for her in local stores is tough, unless we want to stick to men's t-shirts and the like. I ordered two shirts for her online, sight unseen, in the hopes they would fit. They were both 24 Ws, which, according…

Losing faster without exercise
I'm not starving--my daily MFP allowance, calories-wise, is 1,600, and today I'll hit at least 1,430, possibly 1,510, depending upon whether or not I snarf a couple of Fudgesicles after dinner. I eat more when I work out--not all my exercise calories, but at least half most days. Yet it seems I struggle and claw for every…

Am I a good witch, or a bad witch?
Spent the last couple of nights out of town, and have consistently gone over my calories. Not outrageously, but I've had things I normally wouldn't-like a slice of whole grain nut bread and a few bites of tiramisu tonight, and melted cheese and chicken quesadillas last night. On the one hand, I am enjoying myself while…

NSV/this is what it's about for me
I've been sick the past almost week--UTI, I guess, some serious kidney/flank pain, etc. The Cipro is beating me up. So I almost didn't go grocery shopping last night with hubby and son. But I wanted to pick my own vitamin waters, so I went. As I walked in the doors, I considered getting a motorized cart because I really am…

NSV/Vindication
So I went to my PA-C yesterday for what I believed was a probable UTI (she said it wasn't, she was wrong, and now I'm miserable and finally on abx, but that's a different story). I asked her to do a bmp because it's been almost three months. She actually told me that I haven't lost the weight I say I have because "There's…

Thought today was a non-scale failure
Because I decided not to work out. However, we wound up taking our boy to a local park with a duck pond. I thought I was just going to shamble from the car to the pond (about an eighth of a mile) and back. Something the pain would have kept me from trying a few months ago. But instead, I walked to the pond with no real…

New to the forums
But I've been using the program for a few months now. I do love it, it meshes with my need to be obsessive perfectly, and makes it much easier for me to have all my information in one place. Well, almost all--if there could be some way to track my blood sugar, too, this would be perfect! I started out quite heavy--likely…
