  • bump! so simple!
  • My nutritionist said that as I get older, my pre-menopausal body is having problems processing carbs and instead is causing sugar spikes. So she told me to only eat carbs with a protein - apples with cheese or peanut butter etc. I've had to up my proteins to deal with this and it pretty much has helped me. Never a bad idea…
  • You are so right to change habits slowly. I started with breakfast and then dinners and then exercise. Learn what your body responds to. I'm still trying to deal with others like snacking - difficult for this stay at home mom. You have a wonderful attitude!
  • I'm 5' 2" and 45 years old. Started at 142 and now weigh 124. Want to be at 118. This weight is in the middle of my BMI and my nutritionist agreed it would be great for me. These last 5 lbs are really, really hard for me to lose!
  • I say this all of the time - a 5' 2" woman with an appetite of a much taller person. Tall people need more energy for their bodies to function - its just not fair! That's why I work out every day. 300 calories make all of the difference in my happiness. This all said, I do say this as a joke. My excuse for not losing…
  • Your story and what you have achieved is awesome! And you are so lucky to have an amazing support group. Life is good for sure! Enjoy!!!!! You deserve it.
  • If your instinct tells you to throw it away, throw it away. Next time tell mom to knit you some socks. :)
  • I have 2 very fit and active kids and have worked hard to instill better eating habits than I have. Here are a few things that worked for me. When they were 2 and 4, we had a 10 day period when at dinner, they had to eat their veggie first. This was hard, but very effective. My girls don't get sliced bread (when we have it…
  • I'm 5' 2" and 122 lbs. And I still feel pudgy. At 118 I'm in the middle of my BMI - so that's where I want to be. Would like to just prove it to myself that I can do it. I met with a nutritionist who said this was so fine. She said at my height I could be anywhere from 136 to 101. Go with your instinct and when you reach…
  • I don't do low carb, but I do high protein. I try to have 30 grams per meal. That said, my carbs are usually more than my protein, but my sugar is really low. This set up generally keeps me satisfied!
  • Congratulations! You look so, so, so much younger for sure! And whoever commented on your legs was right! Keep up the GREAT work!
  • Cool CousCous Salad - I make this all of the time and add chicken or tuna or salmon. Everyone LOVES it. So easy and makes a lot for many days. Its low calorie, has fiber, is filling and you can add any protein you want. 1 cup dry whole wheat couscous, prepared and cooled (I get at Trader Joe's) 1 large cucumber – diced 3…
  • My mom was 5' 8" and had 7 kids. She was 128 in her 50s and looked really awesome and quite thin. She could wear anything. So don't worry about getting to 120.
  • Just bought twinkies and hohos yesterday for my kid's easter basket. Junk food they never got - and no candy in the house for me! It's a win, win. Oh, and they are also getting earrings. Doesn't all have to be food :)
  • Yes, adjust your positioning - that shouldn't happen. Your instructor can give you tips, but your comfort is the most important thing. So glad you are spinning!
  • I'm 5' 2" and weight 125. I currently wear a size 6 pant and clothes look pretty good on me. Would love to get to 118, but it's proving to be tough for sure to lose those last lbs!
  • My nutritionist gave the advice to eat proteins with every carb - this has helped me a lot! I only have 2 cereals left in my home - Cracklin oat bran for family snacks and bran flakes - this has helped me a lot too. As for breads, I only eat whole wheat now with chicken or peanut butter - again, a protein. Good luck!
  • So glad you are honest and not beating yourself up. I recommend going to see a nutritionist who should give you advice on how to avoid binging from a nutrition point of view. I met with one last week who told me to never eat a carb without a protein - apples come with peanut butter now etc....I can't tell you how keeping…
  • I'll often have a healthy snack before I go out so I'm not hungry and don't eat my entire plate of food or snack on appetizers/bread. I try to enjoy a special entree, but don't touch the bread, the appetizer or any desserts. This is a habit I've had to change. Good luck with all of your life changes.
  • I've learned that if I get too hungry, then I eat too much - call it what you want. So to combat this, I've been eating filling snacks spread out - even when I'm not hungry. For instance, I have lunch at 1:00 and always at 4:00 I have 1/4 cup cream of wheat with peanut butter - so that when I have dinner around 6:00 I'm…
  • I agree it's not easy to have unhealthy food around. My family likes cereal and ritz crackers in their soup etc which I really try not to eat. I tend to get hungry in the afternoon after my kids are home from school and when I'm making dinner - that's when I have snacked in the past on a crackers, cereal which don't fill…
  • I'm 5'2" Being short doesn't allow us a lot of calories. So I go to the gym for cardio and weights and play tennis. The cardio is great for gaining calories I can eat back if I want. Strength training is great for anybody and everybody - especially women so I do that 2x per week.
  • Such great advice from everyone. Eating is a lot about habits - so my advice is to change one habit at a time so you don't feel so overwhelmed. I changed breakfast first, and then healthy and filling lunches and dinners. Now I'm working on no mindless snacking - this is a process! My diary is boring - mostly - but it works…
