Starting slow-trying to form better habits

I started working out and eating better about 5 weeks ago. Have lost 14 pounds in that time. Joined MFP a couple of days ago to help me track my calories better. I have close to 200 pounds to go (okay it was 200 pounds 5 weeks ago!). I've been overweight my entire life and I know if I'm ever going to get to where I want to be… a "diet" will not work. I'm going to have to make it a lifestyle change. So, I'm starting slow and trying to make changes gradually. I'm very much a creature of habit, so that's my focus currently, is to just get into a consistent routine with exercise and making better food choices. Due to my job… food choice is not always my choice… so in those cases, I just do the best I can and watch my portion sizes. But with 14 pounds down… I must be doing something right. :-)

Well done on the weight loss so far! It's never easy to lose weight but it is harder keeping it off. Make sure you take lots of photos of yourself during your journey. It helped me immensely five yrs ago when I lost weight. I could not see a difference in weight change until I looked at those photos. I've put half of my weight lost back on. Would love to befriend you to help motivate you.

    Welcome to MFP!

You are on a great start, that is just the same way I started . . . going slow, making changes in things that you can really live with. It is important that you already realize some of your eating is out of your control and to just do the best you can, it is part of real life and will more than likely always be a part of our lives.

Congrats on the weight loss so far, there are times when this process may seem very complicated and times when you may wonder what's the big deal! Lots of big deals    feeling great, looking great, being able to do things that we lost being able to do and never realized we couldn’t do them.

Again, congratulations on your loss and finding your way to MFP!

You are so right to change habits slowly. I started with breakfast and then dinners and then exercise. Learn what your body responds to. I'm still trying to deal with others like snacking - difficult for this stay at home mom. You have a wonderful attitude!
