  • If you have access to a running store, go there and get this stretching 'contraption' for lack of a better word - it's this plastic thing, round on one side, and it has a place for your foot on the other - good for stretching calf and foot muscles - I think it's supposed to be good for plantar fascitis, but ask them. They…

  • Hmmm, I aim for 1200 cals and often have trouble getting it all in - for me a typical day starts with cream of wheat (shockingly filling) and a banana as a mid-morning snack, a huge salad at lunch with about 3 oz. of protein and a few croutons, dinner is usually 3 oz. of protein, steamed veggies, and a small portion of…
  • Ughhh - got my 9 glasses of water in today - I am soooo not a big water drinker :-)
  • OMG, BB is my secret addiction (or not so secret). Love Jeff and Jordan, but I cannot stand Rachel - she is the most whiny, manipulative b@tch, and there is something wrong with her lips - they look like Daffy Duck lips when she does her prissy little-baby pout (catty, but I truly can't stand her - really, really want to…

  • Just checked out your food diary, and it looks like your problem isn't metabolism, it's food selection... there's no magic pill that's going to let you eat the way you are and still lose or mainstain your weight. Try eating lean protein, fresh fruits and vegetables the vast majority of the time, and limit the pizza, McDs,…

  • swimming-general- leisurely is the exact same calorie burn as swimming freestyle laps at a slow to moderate pace so it probably is not accurate or appropriate for what most of y'all are doing at the pool. Treading water is probably a more accurate estimate.
  • Yes - it really comes in handy when you're out in a restaurant and want to check on what you're eating, or if you're out and want to log before you get home. Or if you're bored, you can always check on your friends updates :-)
  • Believe it or not, I've found great bras at either Macy's or Dillards (probably Dillards, but I can't remember...) - I found 34DDs in Vera Wang and Wacoal. For sports bras I've gone with Champion.
  • July 26 - 360 calories Would have liked to do more today, but lunch didn't agree with me, and then I went for a run in 100 degree heat, so not feeling so great :-(
  • That is so cool! Good luck and feel free to add me as a friend - I'd be happy to cheer you on!
  • I make myself go exercise when I'm stressed or upset - that in turn helps to reduce the stress and I feel better about myself, and can get back into the right mindset. You may have to force yourself, but once you get out there and get moving, you WILL feel better. Even if it's just going for a long walk, which gives you…
  • Looking at your fodd diary, it doesn't look too bad, but it does look like it is very heavy on carbs and fattier foods, and low on protein proportionately. I would suggest increasing lean protein (turkey, chicken, fish - not sausage, wings and ribs), and swapping some of the snacks - more veggies and fruits rather than…
  • July 24 - 63 calories - didn't have time to get a workout in today, but I have a run and hopefully a swim planned for tomorrow :-)
  • I'd recommend seeing a sports doc who specializes in running injuries. I definitely wouldn't trust any advice given over the internet about supplements - you could do more harm than good. But see a sports doc - I know one runner who had IT band problems who was able to run during her therapy, so getting some professional…
  • I love the idea of a rest day, because some rowers do feel pressure to push it every day, but also agree with some other posters about making it more individualized - what if all rowers were required to take one rest day each calendar week, and make it incumbent on the skippers to sort it out? Like basically, they can only…
  • Make sure your knees do not go forward over the front of your foot when you are doing the squats/lunges - that's a common beginner mistake and it can lead to serious injuries. Also, with squats, do not lower your butt below your knees - that is too deep and can cause knee injury. Think 90 degree angles - that's what you…
  • Kudos to you for having the courage to open your food diary - the critiques may be harsh (sorry, I come from the Jillian school of non nonsense, no BS, tough love, tell it like it is :-) ) but it gives you the information you need to make better choices so you CAN reach your goals. I've never understood how patting people…
  • I run because I like the challenge and I like competing in 5Ks. I'm more motivated to train because I want to see my time go down in the next race. And I run with a group 2 days a week, so it's a social thing, too. I've also found it helps with the weight loss, and it's more fun than working out on a machine in the gym.
  • Just took a look at your food diary for the past week, and all you've been eating is junk, so it's not surprising you're not losing weight. It actually does matter what you eat, it's not just pure calorie counting. Donuts? Chips? Burritos? Come on. Get serious. If you want to lose weight, try eating a healthy balanced diet…
  • I'm sorry, I know how frustrating injuries can be - I was sidelined with some sort of calf injury last fall, just when I had started to get back into running after a summer off. I think the smartest thing to do is stay off that ankle and make sure you don't do anything to keep it from healing, because that will only…
  • I run 5Ks regularly and they are a lot of fun. On your stride, you want to avoid heel striking, because that jars your knees and hips more and can lead to injury - try to strike with the middle of your foot, Shorter or middle-length strides are better (too long and you set yourself up for injuries - unless you are…
  • Well, its not great, but it's not a major calamity either if it doesn't happen frequently. Try to add more fruits and veggies to your diet, and low fat proteins and whole grains - the more healthy food you eat, the harder it is to go over on fats. And try to make sure your fats are coming from healthy sources, like olive…
  • Thanks for posting! I live in Texas and it has been over 100 for 22 days now. I've kept running, and it feels crappy. I'm glad to know its supposed to and it's not just me :-) I'm ready for September!
  • I would think that two long runs in a row would not be a good idea - not sure what you normally run during the week, but I really wouldn't recommend it if you were having trouble with 12 today - that's really putting a lot of pressure and stress on your body. Most of the serious distance runners i know don't do back to…
  • Congratulations - you're doing great!
  • Wow, as the others have said, you are really not eating enough, and a lot of what you do eat is sugary starchy crap. No wonder you can't sleep and you don't have any energy - you're literally starving your body. You profile says you want to be healthier, but you are doing just the opposite. You need to eat more (at least…
