  • Just swap the carb and protein percentages. I used to go high protein low carb a lot when I was weight lifting and from experience I could only manage a week before I started experiencing headaches, nausea and very lethargic but it is a good way to lose weight.
  • I have used mfp before and lost around 30 lbs, logging food and exercise definately helps, but I still have 50 to go. I'm hoping having friends with the same goal helps me as much as I can help them.
  • cardio or weights? quite simply it depends how overweight you are. When I was around the 300 lb mark my trainer would, in an hour session, split it 40mins cardio 20 mins weights but as I lost weight the cardio reduced but intensified and the weight lifting sessions became longer. Also the cardio and weights would be mixed…
  • You can't decrease body fat and not lose weight as you can cut your body fat faster than you gain muscle. The whole idea of bulking and cutting is you get big then you shrink, repeatedly, but each time you shrink your lean mass should increase.
  • Hi You could try carb back loading. Lots of info on google. A friend of mine tried it and gained about 14 pounds in a year whilst still looking lean. I think he was around the 140 pound mark when he started. He also done a lot of compound moves at the gym which helped. Your job sounds like hard work so exhaustion and…
  • Hi madebs666 I can and do exercise but only at maybe 50% of my capacity. For me it was a long process getting diagnosed but I finally met a pain consultant and when I gave him a brief 10 year health breakdown he diagnosed me with central sensitivity syndrome. Most GP's are very dismissive of it and only want to treat your…
  • 3 days of lifting 2 cardio. Doing cardio the day after lifting will aid recovery. OR 3 cardio 2 lifting. Depends on your goals.
  • Your trainer is right in the sense that you do need to build up strength and learn the correct form before starting to lift using a barbell. Given that an Olympic barbell weighs 20 Kg, I know smaller ones are available but not very common in gyms now, a lot of people starting from a sedentary state would struggle to press…
  • Children at my daughters school use the gym from the age of 11/12 and they have to do 15 mins of cardio and 3/4 types of resistance training. So it would be safe to say it is an age where they can weight train so long as they are supervised and taught the correct form. My 14 yr old daughter comes to the gym with me and we…
  • I try to plan my meals for the week on Sunday before I shop. I spend an hour on the supermarket website checking offers and plan my meals Monday to Friday that way I know what I will have each day and what I need to prepare for lunches etc. For me its all about control and planning.
  • Check your body fat percentage and decide if you want to cut it further then visit body building web sites such as bodybuilding.com where you will get the best advice for cutting fat and exercise you should be doing to achieve it. I used to find at around 15% BF (many years ago) I would have to restrict my diet to much to…
  • Cardio AM Weights PM Because I have more energy to lift after eating during the day Lifting in the morning just makes me feel tired and hungry all day and I cant lift as much after only having breakfast.
  • A doctor will generally gauge obesity by height, weight BMI. Its not until you either Option A-remove clothing or Option B-explain your health regime Until you demonstrate one of the above options you are obese lol.
  • You can be medically classed as obese (weight) and be healthy. I went to a doctor with a back injury, after being pulled around he then weighed me and told me to lose weight as I was obese, about 25 lbs over top end of ideal weight. I laughed a lot and told him I can bench press 260 lbs run a mile in 6 minutes and have a…
  • Anything you do that makes you breathe harder would be cardiovascular exercise. Repeating movements that you do already such as getting out of a chair, walking upstairs, getting up from the floor or getting out of bed etc are all movements that your body is used to making and therefore you should be able to repeat these…
  • I agree with the above, if you can lift heavier weights overtime and eat a little more then you should gain muscle. Weight lifting is a very personal thing as what suits one person will not work for another. I doubt the cardio will hinder muscle growth, I know a few body builders and they all do cardio and have very good…
  • Your body will be retaining fluid because of the exercise and because of the damage caused by eating 600-1000 calories, I guarantee you drink a lot to keep hunger at bay. Stay out of the gym for a few days and see if your weight goes down, you will probably urinate more than usual. If your weight stays the same increase…
  • If you make small adjustments to your diet such as cutting 500 calories a day and exercise 3 times a week with a balance of cardiovascular and weight lifting then your skin should contract as you change shape. Review your calorie intake every 6-8 weeks and reduce if weight stops coming down, losing 2 lbs a week will give…
  • I'm not really sure why you started your post with sarcasm. I did not state in my post about size and strength being related as you can be strong without being big, male ballet dancers are very strong but you won't see them lifting atlas stones for fun, so I suppose size does come into it. The post I made was a general…
  • Big boned refers to people with an Endomorph body type. Having wider shoulders and larger legs, wide everything really. Gains weight easily and develops muscle quickly. Athletes classed as endomorph (big boned) would be Front row rugby players, field athletes or strongman/woman. People make the common mistake that training…
  • Lose 50 lbs Reduce waist by at least 6 inches, currently 46. Add 2 inches to my biceps/triceps, currently 16. Reduce chest by 3 inches, currently 47. Cut body fat from 30% to 20%. Going to be a tough year but I believe I can do it.
  • I'm new to this also but a work colleague recommended the mfp app to me as he has lost alot of weight using it as it has helped him understand the nutritional values of different foods and has led to a more balanced diet. I'm planning on losing 50 lbs next year using diet and exercise feel free to add me as a friend and we…
  • Bossy is fine lol. The reason I picked a specific date is some of my medication has changed and it takes me time to settle down again and stop feeling sick. Also I'm working on a fitness plan for the year so really want to start diet and fitness plans together. Generally my downfall is snacking through boredom at work,…
  • Hi Any suggestions are welcome.
