I keep reading that less carbs more protein is the best way to lose weight so I have changed MFP recommendations from carbs 50% fat 30% protein 20% to carbs now 45% fat 25% and protein 30%. I'm 33, 5"11 and allowed 1465 cals a day. Can anyone tell me if this is going to work better for me or if I should return to MFP recommendations?

Just swap the carb and protein percentages. I used to go high protein low carb a lot when I was weight lifting and from experience I could only manage a week before I started experiencing headaches, nausea and very lethargic but it is a good way to lose weight.

So I don't need to alter the fat? Also I can therefore do 35% protein and just 40% carbs, remembering that I currently dont exercise.

Macros as percent don't actually make that much sense - it's a question of hitting needed amounts. Having said that, these small modifications don't matter much.

But here is guide on setting your macros:

Are you planning to add exercise?

Oh thanks a lot I will take a look at that. Yes I plan to add exercise but would like to lose some weight first and want to get the eating healthy sorted, instead of trying to do everything at once and then (like many time before) I find I have took on to much... I'm going for the small steps = life long success this time.

What works is sticking to your calorie defecit

If you can do that at 50% carbs then that's fine

There is no magic formula on weight loss although some find proteins and fats more satisfying

Personally I regularly go over 50% carbs but I try to ensure I get .8g protein for every 1lb of LBM I have so I will try to hit at least 100g protein daily

My set MFP goals are 50C, 30P, 20F .. I generally go over on carbs and under on fats because apart from the protein grammes I pay it no mind at all but focus on my calories

    stick to your defecit

lift heavy things and put them down again

    it works

why wait? the more you move the more you get to eat

build muscle the more you get to eat longterm and it does amazing things to your psyche and willpower

but whatever path you want to take is fine

Firstly, I just don't have the confidence to join a gym at the moment.
And secondly I am still getting over a knee injury so need to be careful because, even walking on it for to long causes pain and swelling again which has me stuck with it elevated for days.

I usually only pay attention to the cals I'm consuming, but I want to hit the stats as I would like to be as healthy as possible along side the weight loss.
