Love this thread.

I think this is a great answer. I had to get myself motivated, but I have no desire to do hours upon hours -- or even 1 hour, really -- of running/treadmill/elliptical. At some point, it's diminishing returns and it's going to cause me to hate it. So, frankly, I do enough to get my target heart rate up and I'm good.

I shop only on the outside aisles.

Does it have steam? Sauna? Maybe just go and relax but go to keep in the habit. Or go ahead and put on your gym clothes even if you think you're not going till a little later and then maybe you'll get in the mood since you're already dressed. I dunno. Easy for me to say, I haven't been going a year. But I know I'm going to…

I agree. I mean, we've all seen loose skin on stomachs, thighs, and upper arms but she looked like she had loose hanging skin on her cheeks. Speaking of which, I just now figured out why they make the girls wear those oh-so-flattering belly-baring tank tops when they first come on and then compression shorts and…

Threads like these always make my "ignore" list grow. This is without a doubt the most judgmental, preachy board I read .. and I've even been known to frequent a religious board or two. Why do people take what other people eat or don't eat so personally? I'm here to learn, not defend. For those who ARE allergic to gluten…

More than I lost. But as long as people are realistic...

Feel like I'll never lose the belly.

It's not really up to you, tho, is it? Your body decides how slow or fast it will be. If you think it's a decision you can make how fast it will be, you're doomed.

Low carb, wheat free, sugar free here, too. I sort of make that same chicken dish but I don't call it pizza. I modified it from a chicken rollatini recipe, but I agree I just love having the taste of all my favorite pizza toppings.

I disagree. I think she should wear a size 2. That's my opinion.

I am definitely beginning to think when we use words like "healthy" or "unhealthy", they need to come with qualifiers. They are buzz words. Like "organic". If we can debate on what is inherently "unhealthy", then we can debate on something being inherently "healthy" despite plenty of things being labeled just that. Right…

I see it, I log it. But I'm not afraid if I don't see it again for a couple days or whatever. I know I'll see it again because I'm not eating what I'm not supposed to.

I'm close to your height, have a 41" waist and carry all my weight in my stomach. I'm in size 18 jeans that don't fall off because my waist keeps them on, but I can pull them down without unzipping. Size 16 wasn't quite comfortable yet in jeans. I have 2 size 12 slacks that I cannot get zipped even though they have some…

I've lost a super motivated 31. Don't have a number I'm looking to lose but probably another 50. Or till my stomach is gone. That's my real motivation. I'm tired of it. Let's all help each other!
-
Uh-huh.

The overall number doesn't tell you the whole story, you want to know your other numbers and your ratios (HDL/Total cholesterol and Triglyceride/HDL). Your body does need cholesterol for some functions, that's why your liver produces it. Even if you ate a completely cholesterol-free diet, your body would make the…

Yes, I've given up most sugar. I'll be honest, I never detoxed. Protein is what fills me up so I always start with that and never have a carb like a fruit by itself. But I also learned that feeling hungry is not an emergency. I almost, almost, like feeling hungry. It's part of learning how to listen to my body. If I feel…

So it's good for you then? Oh.

Same here. I can walk and walk and walk if I'm going somewhere. I won't walk anymore at the gym or if I drive to a track. But I can leave my house and walk/run around the block to get back home. I like knowing how long it is (1.5 miles) just so I know, but I can't yet think of it in terms of, I'm leaving now to walk X…

You're me or I'm you. I never get the rush from exercise that people get. I never will. I'm always trying to get it "over with". I always think joining a gym will make me go but it won't. So here's what I've done. I started walking "around the block" (it's 1.5 miles) with intermittent running. I've eyed certain spots that…

Your diet is only responsible for 15%-20% of your entire cholesterol number. What was your HDL and your triglycerides? I would yell kicking and screaming before going on statins.
-
Protein.
-
You're right about the refined sugars and carbs but fats are not to be avoided. They are essential to various bodily functions. It's the hydrogenated trans fat that must be avoided.
-
Are you sure about that? What macronutrients do you get from sugar?
-
Butter is healthy.
-
I edited that to take that out. At least margarine doesn't have trans fats anymore .... but, still, it ain't natural. I really don't use a lot of butter but not because I'm scared of it. The body needs fats. No need to be scared of natural fats.
-
Butter is healthy. Smart Balance is a Frankenfood. Give me butter. Real, natural butter.
-
I"m ahead but not physically. I'm ahead because I finally GET IT and things make much more sense to me now. So the physical will eventually be where it needs to be.

Without commenting on the accuracy of the original post, I will say that subconsciously restaurant meals had skewed my idea of how much a "portion" really is. When cooking for others, I knew I had little to no idea of how much food I actually needed to make and, of course, always made more because too much is better than…
