You look wonderful! So proud of you. :)

You had a bariatric related surgery. When you undergo a surgery like this, you are supposed to be prescribed low caloric intake by a physician because that is what your body is able to tolerate. You will not be able to tolerate much more than that following the surgery without complications. I'm not trying to be a beyotch…

Have already done so months ago. ;) I knew from the beginning that there was no way I was going into this just from reading books and watching videos. I know some people do that and are successful with it but I wasn't comfortable going into this alone! This is good advice, though, and what I often suggest to others as…

What are you talking about? You can't gain 10 lbs of fat in 7 days...I mean, what? Lol. Maybe I'm misreading. I'm not trying to sound like a beyotch but really I think you're overcomplicating things and relying on what the scale weight says far too much. By now you should know that your weight fluctuates on the scale for…

Thank you! :) I just follow the lifting program of Stronglifts 5x5 with one HIIT day thrown in that includes a fast-paced circuit of bodyweight moves, strength moves with heavy dumbells, and rowing on the row machine.
-
Why are you eating different calories on different days? I eat maintenance calories (2,000) every day whether it's a training day or rest day. Also, I eat good food all the time. I don't think of life as "diet 6 days out of the week, cheat on one." That's not very sustainable IMO. And to be honest, it doesn't sound like…

I lift 3 days a week alternating the Stronglifts 5x5 workouts. I also do one day a week of a HIIT routine I do that involves some strength moves as well as using the row machine. Truthfully, I spend forever in the gym (usually 1 1/2 - 2 hrs) but that's because I want to. It's my me time and I don't like to rush through my…

No, it doesn't have to be either or. We don't need to look further than the hotness of CrossFit athlete Andrea Ager to know that! ;) BUT. The problem is that most people do not know how to do both in an effective manner. It is more complicated and involved than one might originally think. It takes careful planning and…

They are not losing a lot of scale weight. They're reducing fat and undergoing body recomposition. Typically, when lifting, you will end up weighing more (or close to your starting weight) yet take up less space.
-
In the grand scheme of things, I find scale weight to be an incredibly trivial piece of data. I mean, honestly, I had to tell myself - who gives a crap if I weigh more on the scale? If I look hotter than that's all I care about, LOL.

Thank you. :) With all due respect, you do not need to run. I don't know why but people seem to think running is the only way to get cardiovascular exercise. It isn't. Before each lifting session, I spend 10 minutes walking on the treadmill at a high incline and steady speed. I do HIIT once a week that heavily involves the…

I think most women feel this way in the beginning. I definitely did! I had a really good PT for awhile to show me the ropes so I didn't have to walk over there blind. These feelings will fade though over time. I used to always be concerned with guys judging my form and thinking "she's obviously a newb" and whatnot. I am…

Thanks! But... I'm still going to call them man pushups. :) I'm so rebellious. lol

First of all, thank you everyone! I have been very fortunate to find great support here at MFP. You guys rock. <3 I should have mentioned that I (more or less) follow the Stronglifts 5x5 program. I say more or less because I do extra accessory work and I've actually replaced the barbell row with other exercises but that is…

I used to be really into Think Thin protein bars but I have moved away from that. I try to incorporate whole foods into my diet instead. I do still use the chocolate protein powder from Trader Joes in my smoothies, though.

Honestly yes, it was a true situation of "practice makes perfect" in my case. Idk what sneakers you have but if you're going to wear shoes, it is best to wear ones that are flat without an insole when lifting. I wear converse all-stars in the gym. Do your heels rise off the floor? Some people put small plates or a wooden…

Hmmm, good question about the pics! I have posted pics each month up to this point. I might continue doing that, or from this point just wait until I hit the 6 month mark to post.

Before I started lifting heavy, I was a Weight Watchers member and all I did was running. I'm unsure of what my calories were for the day at that time (idk how many calories the points correlate to), but I don't imagine that it was anything more than 1,400. Right now eating at 1750 and lifting, it's not so much what the…

I am the exact opposite. I'm great with deadlifts, whereas the squat is my weak point. In my original post where I talk about how I had a lot of issues to work through my squat was a big part of that. I was stuck just with the 45 lb bar for a long time because my form was just aweful. I had weak ankles, so my heels always…

I just wanted to make note that I have read each and every post made here so far, and the encouragement is overwhelming! You guys are amazing. <3

I learned that not only can I not rely on the scale, but I also can't always rely on the mirror either! It's really important to track progress through other methods such as measurments or progress potos!

For about the first month I was eating very close to or right at maintenance (2000 calorie target). From the second month to now I have been in varying degrees of a deficit. I dropped from 2000 to 1900, then took the plunge to 1750. I noticed that when I changed to 1900 I had been eating a little under that target anyway…

Barbell row. Some people put BBR though. :) I have seen it both ways lol
-
Yes. I do two days a week of HIIT training but NOT running/elliptical etc. I do a series of heavy dumb-bell exercises, bodyweight exercises, a couple of the weight machines (to include assisted chin-ups) and finish off with fast-paced rows on the row machine. I do this as a three-round circuit. :)

I recommend watching the two Stronglift videos on YouTube (workout A and B) to give you an idea. A lot of people just watch these videos and figure it out on their own but I'm not that gifted of a learner, lol. I have to be shown. I got a PT for several sessions and it was money well spent. I lucked out and found someone…

Thank you all for the support! And yes, the fact that I can still eat yummy things is the best part, right along with increased strength and confidence! Will you post? :) Would love to see your changes!

Quite alright! Your rant is relevant and makes complete sense to me. :) Also wanted to generally comment that long before I started tracking, I was diagnosed with Celiac disease and was already being particular about labels and such. Therefore, tracking wasn't really a big leap for me. I see it as a bit of a comfort,…

Thank you for the responses. I was very curious to see if others experienced the same thing and, while it is unfortunate that apparently this happens often, I am just glad that I have others to relate to. A lot of what was said here really makes sense. I talked to my personal trainer last night about it and what he said…

Thank you! :flowerforyou: I eat 1750 every day, regardless of whether it's an exercise day or not. I do not eat more if I work out and I don't eat less if I don't work out. Because this number involves my TDEE (to which I took a cut off of it to put me in a deficit), the idea of "exercise calories" is already factored in.…

Honestly, I am too! I was doubtful at first whether or not my body would reciprocate well at first. The progress is certainly encouraging to see. Now when I start to have thoughts of doubt with the process, I always look at these pictures to give myself a reality check to just trust what I'm doing. <3 I was discouraged at…
