Depends on what your trying to do. Eating something (doesnt matter what)before working out, just know that you will burn that off first which will mostly be glucose (sugar) before getting into fat storage. heart rate monitor is the way to go, it will give you a more accurate count. MPF only gives an estimate, but everyone's fitness level is different and it fluctuate as well. HTH
