Ex officio is technical underwear. Synthetic, wicking and seamless. I got a pair for an obstacle course race and they are swell. Bought them at r.e.I. All cuts were available.

For a challenge I was in last week, I lifted more than usual and my off days were spent doing yoga. Great combination! I felt strong, limber and no DOMS. I agree with skipping power or sculpting yoga.

Well done! I can't wait until I reach that milestone. Keep up the great work!

Running everyday is a bad idea for anyone starting running. You aren't giving your body time to rest and grow stronger. C25k every other day but you can walk or do some other workout on your running rest days.

Of approx. 30 different yoga teachers I have had over the years, only 1 mentioned energy and that was only one time in a passing reference. As the poster above mentioned there are 1000's of different videos. If you do videos, leave the sound on so you can hear the advice about positioning/alignment provided. Also yoga has…

Based on your interest in Nicholas Sparks I would recommend Jodi Picoult. Janet Evaonovich's Stephanie Plum (number books) are fun. J.D. Robb's futuristic murder mystery series is great. Based on HP I would suggest the Divergent series. Have fun!

Your muscles are retaining water to help the recovery from adding weights for the first time. Give it time and eventually your muscles will get used to the exercise and release the water. Make sure you are hydrating like normal. Weights are awesome! Keep it up.

Regular foam rolling before stretching or even a quick roll when I wake up usually keeps most of my DOMS away. Stay hydrated and keep moving so you don't stiffen up too much.

Already tons of great tips here. I'll add one. Keep your race bib and on the back write down the date, location, if you ran with someone, your time and how you felt about the race. "It was so cold but a lot of fun." "I had a great pace until I crashed into the Gatorade table." "The course was beautiful and I can't wait to…

Champion has a bunch of tops with the built in bra. Like you I use my good quality sports bra underneath for support and to prevent the dreaded uniboob. Champion stuff is at Target. There are 3 levels and the pricey one is best and not that pricey compared to designer brands. It's called advanced or performance or…

A Snape tattoo?!?!?!?!?!?

I didn't clean mine for years either! I just kind of figured I was the only one using it so it wasn't dirty, totally discounting that I unrolled it in gyms and that I sweat like a beast. The Gaiam spray gives you 3 options. A light cleaning, moderate and a deep clean. I did a deep clean and the first time I used it…

I've had a Gaiam mat for years and was fine with it until I noticed it wasn't as sticky as it used to be. I bought some Gaiam mat cleaner and it's now as sticky as the day I bought it. Sweat and dirt gets built up preventing a good grip. I've had a couple yoga teachers mention that thicker mats are not great for wrist…

I know OP rage quit but I thought I would throw in my .02 for the people who think it's crazy for OP to be on time. If the instructor is going around teaching 2 people to their own level it was extra important that the OP be on time so she could be paired with someone at a similar level. A late arrival might require…

If it is muscle soreness it will be helped a bit by just getting the blood flowing. A short run or brisk walk may provide some relief and some deep stretches once the muscles are warmed up. Foam rolling/ self massage may also be helpful.

I agree with the above. Running shoes are designed for forward motion. Cross training shoes are designed for more side to side motion and should give you better ankle stability. Look at the bottom of your shoes and you'll probably see some differences. I don't use my running shoes for anything but running to minimize wear…

Since you are new to strength training your muscles are retaining water to aid with recovery. That's why you've increased inches in your arms likely. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and prepare to not see the scale move for a few weeks. When your body is more comfortable with this new activity it will release…

I love ice cream. Love it! And chocolate. These cravings make their appearance usually in the late evening. For this reason I try and have a bag of Lindor truffles or Lindt individually wrapped squares on hand. A single truffle or square is about 40-60 calories depending on the flavor. My real saving grace are frozen…

A not stopper! That is a fantastic phrase from a fantastic inspiration. :drinker:

This. If you like your shorts there is no need to stop wearing them. I prefer capris but in the winter I have a pair of full length loose pants that I slip on over the capris to shield me from the winter air. They are Champion bought at Target. High waist and drawstring. All that Champion stuff is seasonal so it may not be…

I would look above the feet first. Are your running shorts/shirts wicking fabric so it will pull moisture from your body and evaporate it? Anything cotton will get wet and stay wet until it drips. You mentioned several good options above for your feet. I would make sure your socks are wicking and double walled socks help…

I'm totally sucking at reporting my runs as they happen this month but I'm still running. So far 8 runs equaling 19 miles out of 32.

I'm in to hear what people have to say. I use Nike+ on my 4th gen nano touch and find the distance to be pretty inaccurate.

I'm late to start logging for August due to some computer issues and I just tried in vain to get a ticker going but see that others are having that problem as well. I'm trying to transition from treadmill to outdoors, increase my pace a lot (I'm new and slow so a semi "big" jump isn't unreasonable) and trying out new trail…

19 weeks is not a lot of time. I doubt you put on all of your weight in 19 weeks so you really need to give your body more time to recover. A lot more time. Great job losing 23 lbs in 19 weeks! Lifting weights tightens up the body so you will lose inches. I wouldn't worry about being athletic just make sure you are lifting…

Lots of good points already raised and my question is how often do you run? As a new runner you should be doing only 3 runs a week. 4 if you are already pretty fit. Some people who are struggling do 2. Your body is acclimating to your running on the days you don't run. Don't worry about your weight. I started C25K at a…

A workout challenge based on a book?!?!??! I'm so in!!!

I understand your frustration! I also would like my parents, brother and sister-in-law to be more active and healthy role models for my niece and nephew. In order to motivate everyone I made up a contest and a long term goal. The contest "ran" for 3 months. For every 30 minutes of activity (any activity at all) the person…
