In January I decided I wanted to change my life, 10 months later alot of hard work and I am now down 43 pounds. I decided to add weight training to my exercise routine this week to help tone my body since most of my journey was all cardio. I worked out every day this week, and ate better then I have my whole journey. Yet I stept on the scale today and I am up 2lbs. It's very disappointing and frustrating especially when you know you've worked so hard. Could me adding weights be the reason? And if so, why?

Your muscles are retaining water to help the recovery from adding weights for the first time. Give it time and eventually your muscles will get used to the exercise and release the water. Make sure you are hydrating like normal. Weights are awesome! Keep it up.0

Your muscles are retaining water and glycogen, part of the natural healing process and very common. A lot of folks tend to wrongly attribute this to muscle gains. While newbie gains are technically possible, it's not a lot of muscle. You can only really gain muscle during a bulk with a calorie surplus. Weight training is vital during weight loss though as it will help you retain muscle mass (so losses are mostly fat).
So, don't be disappointed, just keep training and once your body adjusts, it will release the excess. Make sure you're drinking plenty of water, eating plenty of protein (more than MFP goal) and stretching well to help with healing.0
