Wow, thanks everybody for all the great advice! @sbarella: While "beast mode" does sound awfully tempting, I don't (think) I need the appetite suppressant, I've been struggling to get to 1650kCal/day with healthy food. Heh, I can eat a whole pizza, but healthy stuff is way more filling. My new Dr. is a GP/gyno so I'll ask…

It's just water weight. Keep up your good eating and reweigh yourself next week. =)

You mean neck cords like this? Those are caused by clenching neck and jaw muscles. Grin really big (no bigger) and then tense your lower jaw and neck. They should pop right up. Feel the muscles? Okay now relax them. Gone, right? Now stick your lower jaw forward (no teeth touching) and pucker up for a silly kiss. Try and…

Fellow overweight (I'm 5'7" & 270) newbie lifter checking in! I found that playing with foot and leg position helped me out a lot on increasing squats. I broke through my stall @50 pounds and got to 70 pounds recently. Try these as body weight squats: an ATG narrow footed squat, then a just beyond your shoulders leg…

I just wanted to say that I definitely agree on starting with the broom handle... I did. It was good for getting the hang of things before I got weight on. I used this for starting a friend on lifting, she's still saving up $ for a set... So for your son I've found that a couple of those plastic half-gallon or gallon jugs…

"part of the reason I'd like him to get in shape is for the sole purpose of not feeling "alone" in this... It's hard to sweat your butt off while your s/o is in the other room watching" I'd like to offer a slightly different perspective. You want him to workout with you so you're not "alone". But you guys work different…

Nope, lift! I'm 5'7 and down to 271. I started lifting about a month ago, and I've lost 1.5 inches off my waist. I did notice a little water retention when I started, but it didn't last. And, yes the scale has slowed down, but hey, inches off!

Thanks for the responses! I am not wearing shoes, I found a cheap weight set and bench and work out in my living room. Barefoot by preference. Krok, you're totally right about deadlifting barefoot, I started in old chuck taylors and then... chucked them. I shall start doing more ankle flexibility, I hadn't thought…

Hey, I'm new around here too. I just wanted to chime in and say follow what MFP says to eat. I joined for the new year (at 285 pounds) and ate the 1550 calories it said to and did very little exercise... a month later *poof* 12 pounds gone! Give it a try for a month. It's enough calories to get pizza in every once in a…

Ladies, may I direct you over to this lovely community on Reddit? http://www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits They re-sized me from a 40G to a 36K in UK sizing. I now have amazing fitting bras and my back stopped hurting. If nothing else, try their self-measure guide http://i.imgur.com/jcNkeVr.png it's pretty dang good by…
