  • I have mine as lightly active; I also have a desk job, but tend to have to walk to get to meetings, and like to be up and about whenever I can. I don't log anything as exercise unless my fitbit picks up on it and it's either something substantial I did, or it's a planned workout/walk I'm doing. I found that this has worked…
  • I discovered the wasabi flavor ones, thanks to my boyfriend. I'm amazed that the bag is still partially full, and being eaten in moderation between the two of us.
  • A rice cooker is a good investment in general, and can be a good kitchen gadget to have post-college; I had one while I was in college, and I cooked everythinggggg in it. I experimented once, and successfully cooked chicken in it. I added some microwavable pasta (the Barilla kind in a bag), and tossed that in the rice…
  • I recently discovered Yasso bars; I love them for days I either don't want a more calorie-dense dessert, or want something a little sweet. Their bars also have a variety of calorie ranges. I really, really like them!
  • A fluctuation of several pounds is normal. 20lbs is a massive swing for one day, and I'd lean more towards the scale not being calibrated correctly, your stance on it being uneven, or it being on an uneven surface (ex: tile, carpet, etc). I would try moving it to a flat surface in another room, and see if you get a…
  • As an example, I have a heart arrhythmia; my fitbit does pick up on my heart rate during an episode that isn't accurate to the activity I'm doing, which definitely doesn't accurately represent the calories burned. For the most part, I've found that the burns it estimates while I don't have an episode are accurate to…
  • I just tried this one, and it was really good: https://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/fantastic-taco-casserole-155186 I omitted the chips at the bottom of mine (in favor of being able to sprinkle them on top and to have some on the side), and added some fresh jalapeno. This can also be used as a taco meat base, with as few…
  • Not sure if it adheres to paleo, but spaghetti squash is a popular alternative to pasta. It's also delicious in general.
  • I don't call them cheat days; I do plan days where I relax my calorie goal, like celebrations, birthdays, holidays, or "it's Tuesday and I feel like it". I don't like labeling it as "cheating". Rather, it's me being a normal human being and not having perfect days sometimes. :)
  • I'm so sorry that you were burdened with all of this today; that's a lot for one person to process and work through! I hope your travel plans are able come to fruition as well. The gym and focusing on your plan will hopefully help you redirect your mind and energy away from all this stress; good for you for stepping back…
  • S*%$ happens; just gotta get back up and on the wagon again! I'm sure all of us commenting here have had those days where we either unintentionally or intentionally go way over our calories for the day. It happens. Sometimes it's planned (celebrations), and sometimes it's not (not being mindful). You've recognized this…
  • I like eating higher fat/protein foods, and higher volume as well (vegetables, fruits, etc). For example, I made a taco casserole last night made with 86% ground beef, which kept me full the rest of the night. I also make sure I hit close to my calorie goal each day; your deficit is built in to your daily calorie goal, so…
  • I also just got a Ninja blender, and it pulverizes anything; it advertises itself as a blender where you can keep skins on (for more nutrition). I'm not sure how much extra nutrition is in the peel of ginger and would argue I'm not benefiting much from it, but hey. I like the convenience of not needing to peel things!
  • This looks amazing! Adding it to my list of things to make. :)
  • The difference is likely to be negligent. Log it as its packaging says to be safe.
  • Agreed. I love doing this because I can stick to a plan the next day, keep a couple hundred calories open for an impromptu snack, or plan a calorie splurge day in advance without guilt. It makes it so much easier to say "no" when I need to, especially when I may want to snack because I'm bored.
  • Well, you can find motivation making good changes for yourself. It's easy to not exercise or stick to a meal plan; it's harder and more rewarding to push through the discomfort and urges to eat whatever quantities you want. What are you doing now to make changes to your diet or activity level?
  • Thank you! This is perfect; I ran out of pineapple but have a ton of mango, so I think this will be a great one to experiment with tomorrow. Do you taste the greens or are they hidden pretty well?
  • Thanks! I love all of those things, so I can't imagine that I would dislike this recipe! Thanks so much for the suggestion!
  • You should be eating some of your calories back if you are exercising. Your deficit to lose weight is already built in to your daily calorie goal by the site; you risk netting too few calories if you consistently don't eat back some/all of your exercise calories.
  • I usually like to work out on a slightly full stomach, or a few hours out from eating a meal. With walking, I don't necessarily need to eat beforehand, unless I'm planning on doing a hike.
  • You necro'd a year old thread. OP is long gone.
  • This made me laugh out loud.
  • Can you say that a little louder for the people in the back? Perfectly said!
  • Big fluctuations can happen. One other things to note: has your scale always been on a level surface when you've weighed yourself? When mine isn't (ex: carpet, textured floor, etc), I have have gigantic leaps like this in either direction. Also, are you weighing yourself in the morning (before food), or have you weighed…
  • Nope, sounds about right. If you work a very active/intense job, your BMR will be higher. The algorithm factors this in when calculating your calories for your goal (whether you're trying to lose, maintain, or gain).
  • Do you follow your calorie allowance religiously every single day all the time? - No, I allow myself days where I'm more relaxed. For example, NYE and New Year's Day, I knew I would be celebrating with friends. I didn't worry as much about calories, but also didn't overeat or drink too many empty calories. I had normal…
  • Gah; that's what I meant, but I worded it wonky. Thanks for the clarification!
  • I'm gonna go out on a limb and say these sudden (good) changes on your part are a shock to your body. It's been used to eating one way, and you've likely introduced a lot of new things all at once (more water, more fiber, etc). This likely is going to pass pretty soon, so don't worry! If your symptoms do continue for a few…
  • I was sick this week; I made the judgement call to not work out at all (even at home) during this week, and even though I felt better yesterday, I still avoided the gym because I didn't want to wear myself out at the tail end of my recovery. Best to give yourself the time to relax, and allow your body all the time it needs…
