I just got the Fitbit Charge HR, which has a heart rate monitor built in, and it's great. I've only had it a few days, but it seems pretty accurate. You press the button when you start your workout, and again when you finish, and it automatically calculates calories burned and sends the info to MFP. So clever!

I was eyeing it up, but it seems a bit limited in terms of compatible apps and interaction with other sites, so I decided to wait for the new generation of gadgets which should be out in the next few months - the Fitbit Charge HR looks promising, but there are quite a few on the way it seems. Check out DCRainmaker (Google…

If the hype is to be believed, this year will see the release (probably by the spring) of a new generation of wearable devices from most of the big players - Jawbone up3, various fitbits, and the iWatch for example - which will have everything you need in one wristwatch style gadget. If I were you, I'd get one of the…

I looked at Bannarynes when I was looking into gyms, but ended up at Nuffield Health instead. If there's one near you, would be worth checking out. Mine is great - good quality. Oh, and five minutes from my workplace :-)

Bump. Sounds amazing. Thanks for posting :-)

When I started with my trainer I specified very clearly that I wanted to do compound lifts with free weights (because I was wary of being pushed to use machines) but we still spent quite some time at the beginning doing bodyweight exercises and TRX training because I wasn't strong enough to use the Oly bar properly. Then…

Never could figure out how to add people on fitbit, but I try and exceed 10,000 every day (and usually do). Add me if you like some friendly competition :-) https://www.fitbit.com/user/2BJRYX

That's a fast time! I've been eyeing up the local Park Run and following their newsletter, for when I think I'm ready. I think I'll leave it a bit longer than the last week of the programme though, as I'm slower than you. I'm going to move on to the 10k app for a while first, and increase my distance first.

Hooray! Well done! My next run is tomorrow - not sure what's on the menu yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

It helps sometimes to think of the alternative, I've found. If you're overweight, then the way you are and have been living - if you continue the same way - will ensure that you continue to gain more weight, and more, and more .... At some point, you will have to do something about it, and the heavier you have become the…

This. I once did an Open University chemistry summer school, and one of the experiments was to break margarine down into its constituents. Wow - I swear, no student there would ever eat margarine again! It's essentially a gloop of plastic, made to look edible. I'm no 'clean' eater by any measure, but I wouldn't touch…

Wow, that's a great time - well done! :drinker: I just finished the scary week 5 day 3 20-minute continuous run, hooray! It was tough, but manageable. Now I'm looking forward to building up my time and being just like you

Oh I don't know. I'm a Brit, and we use it in my circle ironically, for fun. It amuses us  (Often the best way to reduce the offensiveness of language is to make a joke of it.) For info to Americans and other non-Brits, though it is generally considered an exceptionally offensive word here in the UK, and best…

Keep at it - it does get easier, I promise, and is a real buzz as you see how much better you get.

I know the feeling - I was amazed that I could do the 8 minutes yesterday without dying :-) Good luck on Tuesday. Keep us posted.

I'm doing the dreaded 20 minute continuous run tomorrow - and am planning to go out at dawn when no one else is around to see (or hear me cursing) Good luck with it!

BIG difference! You've done brilliantly. Keep it up - imagine the photo at your next milestone :-)

^^^ This. I was trying to imagine what the world would be like if everyone stayed in bed all day whenever they were in a bad mood, but of course that won't work - most of the world's population is too busy working hard to ensure that they (and those that depend on them) stay safe, warm and adequately fed to even dream of…

My weedy grip was really holding back my deadlifts, so my trainer got some hooks for me to use, which are great. I now do a mixture of lifting without the hooks, in order to improve my grip strength, and with them, which has enabled me to steadily increase the weight again. I know some people will disapprove, but if it's a…

Yes, go and get fitted. I bought a pair of Saucony Kinvara 5s yesterday (which are fantastic, but wouldn't suit you as they are minimalist shoes) and was so pleased I had them fitted - normally I'm a size 5, but in the Kinvaras I needed a size 6.5! Running shoes are too expensive to get wrong :-)

Another bump. Surprised that the more experienced lifters haven't dropped in to help. Maybe try posting the question in the fitness part of the forum?

It may be that you're not strong enough yet to lift the bar, so the trainer is trying to get your basic strength up first. My trainer started me on bodyweight and TRX exercises until I could lift the bar, and now I'm rolling (and having a blast). But I was so weedy to start with that even unweighted squats and lunges had…

I tried it, but it's glitchy - doesn't always record that you've met your pact. After spending some time having to email them to try and get it fixed, I got annoyed and told them to delete my account, and then had to fight with them to make them actually delete it. Shame, because I liked the idea, but there you go ...

Bumping for inspiration. These pics are so impressive! Thanks to everyone who posted their achievements.

I'm like that with bread too - you're not alone! I've learned its best not to keep a loaf in the house, and just to buy a roll instead, so that when it's gone it's gone. And /Or I have bread on days when I do a serious workout, so have more calories to play with (I'm small, female and almost 50, so have a low…

I got a Fitbit One soon after Christmas, and was somewhat sceptical about it, but have found it a real help. It gives me a clear picture of how many calories I burn each day, synchs seamlessly with MFP, and really does nudge me to be more active. I highly recommend it.
