  • Stretch stretch stretch!! That is my best advice. Your style (run one, walk two) is exactly what I'm doing right now, except I do it for three miles. Keep going!
  • 1/2 cup fat free frozen yogurt=100 cal Sometimes, if I have the calories, I add a serving of frozen raspberries or a serving of the reduced fat Hershey syrup.
  • Okay, here is what I got when I hit my lowest (I've gained 9 pounds and am committed to getting that plus another 10 off!). Maybe not for everyone, but . . . I got a backpiece tattoo. The artist is well-known worldwide and respected, and did an awesome job. I love it and wouldn't trade it for a pair of clothes, a spa day,…
  • I'm smiling about that one!! My middle son is a wrestler, and on the heavier side, and we always talk about the benefits of dropping that water weight versus the benefits of feeling good when you wrestle. Guess which one usually wins? Yep, he eats dinner the night before. But doesn't it do something to your mentality when…
  • I think like a wrestler!! Now, don't go out and run in garbage bags or anything, but if I don't work up a good sweat when I work out (and this might just by psychological), I don't FEEL like I worked out as hard.
  • I think they do write for a very particular audience, but most of what they say is to eat more REAL food, less processed junk (eating clean?), but sometimes the way they come off (personality), I think they can be crass.
  •    Why do you think they are so B****Y? Sheesh. Sometimes I see people like that and I wanna say, "Eat a burger, even if it is a garden burger. Please? Eat something?" I know I couldn't survive like that. Eating is sensual, and to give that up, BAH! Never.
  • Keep trying. It may be a good bonding time for you and dear old dad. You can throw those chicken breasts and veggies into wraps! Portable and yummy.
  • Confession Time: I did not know what "boiling" meant when I began learning how to cook at 16! You will figure it out, and we all get tired of our own cooking and dishes every now and then. That's where you are. Time for innovation! Buy the healthy wraps at the store, not flour tortillas (too much fat). Use those to make…
  • It's a habit that only gets easier if you remove all other beverages. Thirsty? Oh well, all you have is water. Also, as a back up for a tough day, I have crystal lite. I try not to use this too much, as it encourages the "sweet" cravings. And you will get a more "regular" bladder. It's busy flushing you out right now; have…
  • At least it's quakes and not a half gallon of Tin Roof Sundae. You could look that gift horse in the eye and thank him for that. I have a problem with the "bedtime snack" thing, as my father and I would sit and eat a bowl of ice cream together when I was little. Now I have to think, "After dinner, if I can afford it…
  • My seventeen year old son is taking this. We have no side-effects except for when he read the "black box" warnings and freaked out. He didn't take them for four days and was a mess. Please make sure you taper off if you are going to stop taking this. Talk to your doctor about the black box warnngs. Our doctor was very…
  • I eat the stuff that takes forever to cook, but has the most fiber and is really the most nutritious: Long Grain Brown Rice. I cook tons of it in a huge rice cooker and freeze it in meal-size freezer bags. It lasts FOREVER this way, and when I want to have rice with dinner, I just take it out of the freezer and heat it up.…
  • One day at a time--just like the AA motto. You bombed yesterday. So what? Get up today, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, and move on. Promise yourself that today you will pass on the coffee and the yogurt. Promise yourself you will do the best you can TODAY. That is what you should focus on--TODAY, not yesterday, not…
  • T!!!! I FOUND YOU!!

  • STOP weighing yourself. MEASURE yourself. If you are working out hard, you will see some changes in your measurements before you see a change in weight.
  • So, one month into my husband joining my new way of life (healthy, realistic), he is being a jerk, yelling at the kids, pushing things around the dinner table as he plops microscopic servings of this and that on his plate. I watch him weigh a piece of meat three times, cutting off excess trying to reach some magic number…
  • Good job! Stick with it. Doesn't it feel GREAT?!
  • I have heard every ten pounds is a dress size. I have lost around 40 lbs and I am 4 sizes smaller, so it worked in my case.
  • Ditch the scales if you are doing this just to lose the belly. Measure yourself now, and begin doing cardio. Cut back the treats to one less than 100 calorie treat per day. In three weeks, measure again. Any loss will be encouraging. If it's the belly pouch, it's cardio. So, walk, run, hike, swim, play tennis, get on the…
  • A co-worker I know did it only by counting calories. She lost 70 pounds and she looks tons thinner, but she only eats around 900 calories a day, and I would be sad:sad: if I could only eat that. Besides, I became a nice muscular in my weight loss and working out, and that allows me to actually burn more calories just…
  • So can't believe my own eyes. My husband brought home some Entenmann's donuts from the Orowheat store yesterday, and I ate one small one and one big one. OUCH. Stupid things. I will, from now on, leave them to my 150 lb. 5'11" 16-year-old son. Never again!!
  • Ahhh. The leaning hug. Yes. My hubby and I have lost a combined 100 pounds, and can't believe how much BETTER a hug feels when you are thin!!
  • NOT MISSING THAT QUESTION: "When is your baby due?" OR THE OTHER JUST AS AWKWARD ONE: "Are you pregnant?" No--just overweight. NOT going to miss those. Currently NOT missing those. Looking forward to BIKINIS!! Living a LONG time Being able to eat what I want, in REASONABLE portions (this is what I am learning now)
  • One, make sure you have it under control from day to day. Don't start a plan until you have this figured out. I have asthma and have lived with it since I was just months old. Two, know that you can burn calories with your heart rate at a relatively easy level. Three, save up and get yourself a heart rate monitor. You will…
  • Hi. Good luck and welcome. There are lots of helpful people out here. Encouragement and strength is only a click away if you need it!
  • when we cycle, our cells actually swell and hold more water volume. When I weigh on my body fat scale during that time, it says 78 percent total body water. I usually can only get to 44 any other time. So my blood cells hold that much more water. Oh, and I don't have pms or cramps since I started working out heavily.
  • Good job! You and I were in the same boat! I have lost 38 pounds, and feel AMAZING. Even though it seems like no one is noticing, I know you probably do. There will come a point, when all of a sudden, LOTS of people are noticing. Keep going. Do it for you. You deserve it!!
  • I love it when that happens. I went to the doctor a month ago, and she said, "damn girl!" She is THE best doctor I have ever had. She asked me, "what have you been doing?" and I told her "kicking my own *kitten*!" and then I told her about this site and my workout. Congrats!! And now I am doing my happy dance with you!!!
  • Thanks for celebrating with me gang! My body size keeps shrinking, even though my poundage had stopped shrinking. Now I am hoping for a double--body shrinkage AND pound shrinkage!! Total of sizes lost=4 AND DID I MENTION MY BMI IS----TADA--HEALTHY!!!! OMG HAPPY DANCE HAPPY DANCE HAPPY DANCE!!
