i cook pretty much all my mon-fri food in the microwave!!! Loads and loads of veggies. Re-heating portions of stuff that have been frozen like chilli, spag bol, chicken dishes etc, even, poaching eggs. Fish cooks really fast with a zap - about 1 min! Hate taking more than about 2min to make my meals, so there it is. Also…

I'm interested in this and have a couple of q's (sorry OP if i'm using your thread for myself :) ) 1) What's wrong with using lots of different muscles in different movements all the time? Why is it frowned upon - surely this is a natural thing? To me it seems preferable to just training a small set of muscles by repeating…

I'm the same! I think some people do suffer from DOMS a lot more than others, and i've tried to read up about what you can do about it, and not really found a magic bullet - maybe hobbitses333 is on to something with the 'more rest' idea, i'm not suffering abnormally at the moment and i recently had a week in UK away from…

Ha! Well, there you're wrong, since losing slowly is better, by all accounts (i find it too hard to go slowly - i need positive vibes from my scales as frequently as possible!!) Love to see people's graphs - thanks for posting the other pics. I do believe that all these previous attempts at losing, and then somehow gaining…

Here's my plot - i'm same as you with trying to keep in a range (the orange box in my case). You can see things got a little out of hand at the end of last year, and i now have the last pesky couple of lbs to go to get back there - haven't mastered maintaining as well as you yet.....

wow! you had a big 2019! Congrats!

Hurray! Back under 53kg as of yesterday. It took 5 weeks this year for me to lose 2kg - that's pretty fast for me :) A few more weeks of calorie restrictions to get another 0.5-1kg off, but aiming for slower pace now... CW: 52.8 BMI: 20.4

To answer the OP question, i try to make 'the process' the motivation and not the scale. So reflecting on whether i've eaten well or exercised ok each day. So my motivation is to get a healthy tick in my chart for each day, or each week (and the scales can do what they want because if the process is happening the scales…

Great question OP! Hope lots of people reply with different answers. I use a few different techniques: 1) I read the Beck Diet Solution book which deals with the mental side of dieting, so employ some techniques from that such as writing 'worth it' cards to remind myself of specific examples of the benefits i've had from…

Well done on the 30lbs! And well done on successful maintenance (i'd call it maintenance rather than a plateau after 6 months!). It's great that you've been able to stabilise your losses over a good time period and that you're still motivated to make more changes, but agree with you, and the posters above, that it looks…

For eating out options; in Spain you could find a Tapas place - they're only small plates so fairly easy to be moderate and gague how much you want to eat. In Ireland maybe order from starters menu instead of the mains menu?

Think i'm a bit bored of monitoring already!! The good news is my macros looked well balanced for the 4 days i monitored, so i'm happy i'm 'ok' and i will stick to the dieting as planned for the rest of feb. As long as i'm losing i'll keep guessing calories/macros, but will revisit proper counting if i stop losing or start…

Yep, i do have one leg longer than the other apparently! Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Love this resource for getting some good positive info :) Yes, some one-legged focus sounds the way to go - as well as teaching myself a bit more about my muscles there and how they work (i don't know much, clearly!!). The thing…

same as others, i sometimes get a plateau of about 2 weeks, then the whoosh. I have a set of scales that measures weight and body fat % and whilst i'm sure the body fat % is not at all accurate at least its useful as a trend, and i tend to find that if my weight is stuck then i'm making progress with the body fat bit, and…

I've got an ongoing graph plot with a target range blocked out of 50-53kg. I'm slightly above the box right now (thanks, Christmas), so want to get back to the middle (I'm 5'3"). Historically i've yoyo'd between normally 62-54, then 3 years ago i gradually crept up to 71 and had a massive diet effort to get down to 50 in…

51, 5"3 CW: 53.5 BMI: 20.6 GW: 52 ok, i'm on a slight 'mission' in Feb so this looks a good place to be upfront. Want to get back to safely under 53kg where i was for 18 months before i managed to put on about 4kg over xmas. Since Jan i've been in the 'joyful' process of getting rid) The Feb plan: Stick to the plan - this…

the other angle for motivation might be to analyse how you feel after the cookie. I guess if you've decided you 'deserve' it then it might not work, but if you have one and feel guilty about it, write down that feeling as you're feeling it - similarly if you're proud that you've resisted temptation write down how you feel…

you're also your own experiment, so all the calculators etc are just an estimate. You're unique, so it takes a bit of trial and error to see whether you respond the same as predicted or more or less etc. At a rough glance i'd guestimate you'd be losing heaps if you stuck to what you're doing :)

Thx for the wine advice Amy! I already sub-sampled in to a plastic bottle and used an air pump thing to remove air from remainder of original bottle (which is staying at home). They work ok for preserving wine, but agree the bags do that job too! I found here by pressing the 'groups' button and browsing from there. I'm an…

Posting in sympathy..... I'm travelling next week too with conferences and meetings and evening dinners. All my meals are organised by others, and it's going to be tough. One thing you can control is the volume you eat. I'm going to sneak to the supermarket and get some veggie snacks to take with me instead of the morning…

I travel with work a fair bit too, to some random locations in Aus and o/s. It's WA next week and i'll be taking my running stuff. I think travelling is a good opportunity to have a run somewhere different and explore the area you're in. In fact I don't run that much at home (I do other exercise stuff instead) but enjoy it…

Great to hear you're all so active on here! I'm off trekking/camping this weekend with a local trekking club, so have just been packing my backpack. I always seem to end up carrying more weight in my bag than others - how do they keep theirs down??! Maybe I should take out that flask of red wine? (a bit drastic). And trim…

Sorry re post above. I read that on page 1 and it didn't quite register there were another 204 pages to read and that I might be butting in on a conversation! Keiraev has even deactivated her acount by now and clearly doesn't care that we share goals!! Hello, anyway, btw.

Same, but I want it sooner! Or in my dreams 118 by Xmas

I try to be approx. 1200 when I'm dieting, except I do a fair bit of exercise, so take more when I need to. Plenty of veg and protein works - if I don't do that I end up feeling hungry. You can see my food diary for the last 10 days I've been logging again

This works for me.
