Hi Everyone, just started back with MFP after being gone a while - this group looks awesome, and I have a feeling lots of you can relate to my experiences! I was caregiver to my mom almost full time (I'm 53) for over six years. Pair that with being a stress eater and woo-hoo! All the weight I'd lost last time I was on MFP…

Newcomer to the challenge here. Not new to MFP, but fell off the wagon and need to get motivated after being gone a few years! April start wt: April Goal wt: April 1: April 8: April 15: April 22: April 29:

Our DD offers almond milk as an option for their iced coffee - I generally skip the sugar and just get the dairy or almond milk added to it along with a flavoring. It puts a ding in things calorie-wise, but not a deal-breaker for me.

I agree with the idea of switching blends or coffees - if you dislike the bitterness (usually negated by adding milk or cream), try a blond roast instead of a darker one, they tend to be more floral and less bitter. Regional blends make a big difference as well. If you like the sweetness try a flavored coffee to cut the…

There is actually some science behind it, but they have a way to go before applying it for weight loss strategies. Berkeley has done a study on it in mice - http://newscenter.berkeley.edu/2015/01/08/energy-burning-brown-fat-protein/ and several other studies have confirmed its potential. I suspect that there is just enough…

No kidding! And Chicago has enough flab to allow the rest of us to get ourselves in shape - if it hasn't tipped us over, nothing will (well, okay, maybe Springfield!

Yup, stopped by Dunkin on the way home from my hike, large Butter Pecan Iced Coffee with cream and splenda (my new weakness) and a Boston Creme donut. Hiked just under four miles, ate the calories back and then some, will walk three more tonight. That is the entire reason to exercise, right?

Yup, the day I was driven in the ditch I had on a bright screaming neon green t-shirt that was used for my daughters trip to Great America (I chaperoned, and everyone got one). I also a have a road-cone orange shirt that I got from volunteering at a local brewfest one year. Their ugly color choices are my safety measures…

Yup, there are always idiots on both sides, I've grumbled at my share of cyclists who have failed to use signals or have taken up half the road on a single-lane street with no passing - not horrible when the speed limit is 30, but it causes a problem when it is 45 and I have to deal with the tailgaters behind me. Not to…

Thanks! I've looked at the GoPro online and they seem to be the best rated, but I did not know anyone who had experience with them. It does suck that this kind of thing is necessary. I have a friend who rides a lot in the area who refuses to ride solo anymore since he was driven off the road so often by cars. I looked into…

I'll agree to this, only because I also agree with the others that it simply a phase, and once she finishes this one you are going to wish you had some of that quiet time to yourself while others interact with her (just wait until she hits about 18-26 months)! Kids that age are seeking out new things and experiences, you…

I agree with the others in that it depends on the individual. My daughter has VERY low blood pressure (I did too at her age) and actually has to consume more salt in summer or when active per her doctor to keep from passing out or having dizzy spells. Now that I am older, if I go over 1700 a day I pay for it the next day…

Have you thought about pre-planning and doing freezer meals? My daughter is doing that with her roomie next year, and their budget is about the same as yours (right now I do it). It takes a little time to get organized - an hour or so to plan and set up a shopping list, and a couple of hours of cook/prep one day a week.…

I love it with a little sprinkle of Parm and a touch of olive oil or butter, plus cooking it in any type of broth (sorry) adds a lot of flavor (adding it after is meh) For breakfast I like cooking it with milk (almond, coconut or cow) instead of water and adding a touch of cinnamon or another spice (nutmeg, pumpkin pie…

I use "mapmyrun" and "mapmyfitness" - they both save my workouts to their own sites and sync with each other, but I noticed that they are no longer sync'ing with MFP. Hopefully it will be corrected soon! I did not even notice the update!

No, removing the sugar will result in the cookies not browning, and very likely an odd-textured/off flavored cookie. There is a lot of science behind baking, and recipes require a balance of fats/sugars/leavening agents in order to produce a good result. A general rule of thumb is you can cut the sugar in half safely in a…

You can check here - according to Calorie lab One hour of coaching for a 150 pound person burns 204 calories an hour. You should be able to enter your own stats and go from there. http://calorielab.com/burned/?mo=ac&ac=15140&ti=Coaching&q=&wt=150&un=lb&kg=68

I agree with the others - why wait? I signed up for my first one in January, and I had not even STARTED running yet, I used it as a way to get motivated and get off the couch! It comes up in two weeks :)

I posted a low-cal hot fudge recipe in recipes, I like to use it with a serving (half-cup) of Edys Slow churned vanilla bean ice cream (100 cal per half-cup serving). With summer coming up I suspect I will be having it a lot! Total calories if you use the entire serving of fudge (almost too rich) is 177. It's also good…

Enter the recipe into the recipe builder under the Food tab. Make sure you divide the completed portions evenly (use the scale if you have one) and you should be pretty close to the accurate count. Just remember any changes you make to the recipe will effect the count!

Use the topic search button for the keywords in the question you may have - it will avoid getting rude answers and help you narrow your question down if needed (and also give you an idea of if the topic is a hot button that triggers rude answers). Don't feed the trolls. Even to let them know you are aware/think they are…

Store-made bakery items. It is NOT that I expect them to be low-calorie by any means, but I was surprised by how off they were in their nutrition info on the package. I purchased a package of "four" pre-cut brownies listed at 150 calories each (box was marked as having four brownies inside). I weighed one out of curiosity…

I'd love an invite if you are still accepting - I need the kick for the weights!

As long as you figure out another way of getting enough calcium. My Mom is currently dealing with a friend who gave up milk in the seventies for some reason (she tolerated it, she just told us it was "bad" for her to drink). Her spinal column is collapsing (she has had six fused in the past four months) now her bones are…
