Honestly, deciding to start is one of the hardest parts about losing weight, so kudos for taking the first step. I also started my own most recent bout of weight loss (part of an adulthood long yo-yo, ugh) when I was kind of shocked/angry/disgusted by how far I had let myself go (380 lbs, about 11 months before I got on…

Sorry, total mistype, I meant my daily calorie intake is set for a two pound per week weight loss. A bit too early in the morning to be typing, I guess.

Hey, this happens to all of us sometimes, so don't worry about it too much. In your position, I'd just try to eat normally/relatively lightly for the rest of the day, log it all, and then start out fresh tomorrow. There's no use in feeling bad about what you've already eaten, I know that for me that just leads to more…

I replaced avocado with sliced almonds this week so that I could get some extra protein in my diet (vital since I'm going vegetarian). I also rotate between feta cheese and crumbly goat cheese for variety's sake. I love having cherry or grape tomatoes, sliced in half, sprinkled with salt on the exposed flesh. I recently…

On the one hand, I really love having that info available, on the other hand, it's a huge pain in the *kitten* for small businesses, and I'd be surprised if the recipes would be followed closely enough for the info to remain accurate. If I'm going out to eat, I just try to order the healthiest thing available and estimate…

Oh man, I had 1300 calories in chocolates and candy before I gave the rest of my Easter basket to my brother and sister-in-law. :D I'll probably ending up going a bit over maintenance calories tonight between booze and dinner, but I plan on just getting back to normal come tomorrow and hopefully it will even out in the…

Usually, if I'm sick enough to feel a real drain on my workout (so, more than a sniffle), I try to rest and let my body heal faster.

Is it weird that I'm intimidated by the idea of going into a really nice store just to see how too-fat I am to wear a nice piece of clothing? I realize it's irrational, but still.

Oh hell, I know I'll be at my goal weight before the end of the year, it's just a matter of whether or not I'll be able to fit into this particular garment by August, or if I'll have to tell my friend to shop somewhere more fatty friendly. :D EDIT ADDITION: Oh, and I know it's silly to try and target weight loss, I was…

Dang it. I was afraid of people saying that, since it seemed so likely that would be the answer, just as it is with all things weight loss. HARRUMPH! (But thanks!)

Oy, I feel your pain. I used to date a very slim guy, and all his friends were super fit, rock climbing, competitive rowing, half marathon running gay dudes. Being the fat guy in that group was pretty obnoxious sometimes. Honestly, it's part of my motivation for losing.

I try to maintain the same eating schedule, if I can, and avoid putting myself in tempting situations. So, I have the same breakfast and lunch, and if I'm going out with friends, I eat dinner first and budget X number of calories for drinks or what have you. (This is why I drink primarily whiskey these days - only 69…

It's ridiculous that no one told her that was inappropriate - I think your argument should almost more be with them than with her. I'll agree that different cultures have different norms (when I visited China and would jog, little kids would follow me and yell that I was so fat, ha), but I think it's on the person engaging…

Huh, I thought my diary was open. I'll keep searching through the settings to make that visible. Good to see that I'm not crazy, though. Thanks for responding, everyone! EDIT: And, after a few moments looking through the settings, my diary is now open. Boy, do I feel slow.

I weigh in every week on Wednesday morning. I'm actually having a bit of a freak out tonight because I won't be at home this Wednesday, and I'm struggling to decide between weighing in a day early, two days late, or just going for the long haul and not weighing in until the Wednesday after I get back. Decisions, decisions!

If you're worried about variety and not health, then I would recommend subbing in polenta every once in a while. It's got more carbs and more sodium (if you make it with broth and not just straight water, which I do). It's pretty inexpensive, very easy to make and it is a fantastic base for a hearty meal with lots of…

I think I've been in a position similar to yours. I got into crazy excellent shape (for me) to join the Army (running half marathon+ distances, biking everywhere, sub 30 4 mile, etc.), and when I got out, I backslid to being in WAY worse shape than before I had started training several years earlier. My recommendation is…

I have never completely tracked my calories before now. No more guesstimates. I have never been thrilled to eat 12 oz of green beans or brussel sprouts before now. I have never realized that I could cook things without buckets of oil before now.

It's at least as hard, if not harder. Between 2006 and 2007 I lost about 120 lbs (getting down to 220 at a height of 6'3") and while it was an accomplishment, it wasn't all that challenging once I got into a good routine. At the time I was losing weight so I could join the Army, so I was very motivated. At the end of 2009…

I thought that my streak was counting how many days I had managed to stay under my goal.. 47 days in I realize it's just a login counter! I thought if I had one bad day I'd lose that precious number, and now it doesn't seem so important. I think I should still be able to resist the siren song of beer and chinese food, but…

http://www.budgetbytes.com/2014/01/vegetable-polenta-casserole/ This Veggie Polenta Casserole is freaking amazing, and the whole thing is under 1500 calories while being chock full of very filling vegetables with just enough cheese on top to make it seem like a guilty pleasure. I love having the leftovers around for…
