Weight lost to Inches off my chest

Hey all!

So, I have a bit of a conundrum: my friend is getting married in August, and I'm going to be one of the groomsmen. I've lost about 56 lbs since January, and I'm hoping to be somewhere around 250 lbs by then (maybe less, if I'm lucky). He's shopping around for vests for the groomsmen to wear, and one he was considering maxes out at a size 46.

Right now, I measure 49-50 inches in the chest. Does anyone know how many more inches I should expect to lose if I lose around 30 lbs in the next sixteen weeks?

It is very hard to predict as people lose their fat stores at different rates from different places.

Impossible to predict. You can't really guarantee you'd fit it without alterations.

That sounds like a tough call. I would see how it fits you now and see how close you are to getting it comfy for you.
I'd hazard a guess that 30 lbs could work.

In ladies sizing the size chart says one thing but when you try it on you need a smaller size so id try it on to see where you stand!

Dang it. I was afraid of people saying that, since it seemed so likely that would be the answer, just as it is with all things weight loss.

    HARRUMPH!

    (But thanks!)

Good question, and very challenging. My thing about this is, like the gentleman said, it's tough to predict that. Everyone is shaped in a unique way. Some guys just have bigger chests than others. Also, my take is to just focus on continuing to lose the weight and burn the fat. That should really be your only concern. There really is no such thing as a "target weight loss," and it's probably not a good idea to focus on one body part and neglect other parts of your body (not that it's what you're doing). You must focus on burning the fat off every part of your body, and then the measurements will take care of itself. I know, this is a big event, and you have to have a certain measurement for the tuxedo, but in reality, when you are on the program you're on, you can never predict where you will be. All you really do is just set a goal and try to reach it. You're already doing a fantastic job. 56 lbs. is HUGE!!! One, you really have to be proud of that, and two, don't hope to reach your goal. If you "hope" to do it, chances are you won't reach it. You have to KNOW you will. That is the attitude you want to have. Believe that it will happen. If you believe it, I GUARANTEE you will reach it!

    I hope this helps.

Oh hell, I know I'll be at my goal weight before the end of the year, it's just a matter of whether or not I'll be able to fit into this particular garment by August, or if I'll have to tell my friend to shop somewhere more fatty friendly. :D

EDIT ADDITION: Oh, and I know it's silly to try and target weight loss, I was just hoping there was some common wisdom about men's chest size and weight loss that I just hadn't run into. :D

As others said, try it on and see how far you are from being able to squash yourself into it now.

Is it weird that I'm intimidated by the idea of going into a really nice store just to see how too-fat I am to wear a nice piece of clothing?

I realize it's irrational, but still.

    This might help.

I was measured for a suit in October when I weighed ~286. Chest was 52.

I weighed in at 247.5 this morning (MFP FTW!). Remembering this thread, I found my wife's tape measure and checked my chest. It's showing 46.

So at 6'0, 248, that vest would probably fit me. My 38 pounds took me from 52 to 46, so your 30 might be fine to take you from 50 to 46.
