  • One thing that has helped me is just keeping this in mind: As of December 21/22, the days start getting longer and we get more sunshine back in our day - 3 min per day, if memory serves. I know that doesn't seem like much to go on, but for me it really helps. I look forward to the lengthening of the days, and if I remember…
  • I used to be that way too. I still eat it every day in some form or another: Cocoa-roasted Almonds (about 20 nuts is a serving of 100 calories) Fiber One Oat & Chocolate bars ^^^ Those are my go-tos. If I want something REALLY indulgent - well, I'll have it! I don't deny myself. I just make sure it's super yummy so I'll…
  • Yeah. You never know - it might be really meaningful (personally) to them, or something they thought was really beautiful. That said, I could almost wish the spelling of names was standardized. My niece's middle name is Mackenzie...only it's not spelled that way. I don't even know how to spell it. (I don't think her mom…
  • Hello from WI! I go through Wausau a lot on my way to Boulder Junction... Welcome!
  • Darn double post...
  • Thanks for posting this. For me it works better than measuring because I'm not going to bring a set of measuring cups or a food scale with me when I eat out (and I eat out a LOT - I despise cooking.) A deck of cards fits in my purse for reference.
  • Stuffing. My mother in law goes all out - I can expect ham, turkey, swiss meatballs, and fleischvogel (swiss sausage wrapped in bacon and beef, essentially) ALONG WITH the side dishes. Best part? All I have to do is bring the wine.
  • The texture kills me, even when I like the taste. (Aldi's now has a greek yogurt that isn't bad, taste-wise...) It feels like I'm slurping down Elmer's Glue. :noway:
  • Baked vs fried and DROWN it in lemon juice!  Once in a while an indulgent meal is fine - I'd guess if you're on track all week, a Friday night fish fry isn't going to derail you. Even with the potato, slaw, beer, etc. :) Gotta love Wisconsin.
  • My husband doesn't hunt but he processes venison...so during hunting season he's sort of on call if someone brings a deer in to the shop! Not quite a hunting widow here, but kinda sorta.
  • I read somewhere once [sorry, I have no sources!] that we don't need as much of (insert name of sweet whatever here) to satisfy our desire for it as we think we do; we just get into this mentality of "clean your plate" or "I took it, I might as well finish it" so we ignore the "Yeah, that's enough - I'm satisfied" voice.…
  • I weigh and record every day. Sounds counter-intuitive, but fo me it's an exercise in NOT obsessing. I will not let the number dictate my mood for the day. (At this point it's daily fluctuations since I'm pretty much at my goal weight.) If it shows a gain - no big deal, it's water weight or a phase of the moon, since the…
  • When I look to the sky - Train How could I ever know - from the musical The Secret Garden Come What May - Moulin Rouge (played this at our wedding) Love Will Live - Zeno One Day at a Time - Butch Walker Somebody - Depeche Mode
  • Grilled chicken snack wraps - I had a honey mustard one the other day and thought it was really good. Something like 250 calories, I believe.
  • We had talked often about "when we're married" but our 1-year-of-dating anniversary passed ringless. (We also decided we wouldn't get married/engaged before we'd known eachother for a year.) One night I drove to his apartment. We sat on the couch and he said, "I have a surprise for you." He pulled out his guitar and played…
  • You can do this! Slow and steady is what works. Also - and this was hard for me at first - if you look in the mirror every day and tell yourself "Ugh, you have SO far to go!" - it's going to be even harder. Try replacing it with "You can do this! You're worth it! Every day, all the way!" For me this has been a process of…
  • I like workout videos - Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred is really popular on the forum here (do a search for about a bazillion threads! ) Right now I'm doing her No More Trouble Zones DVD, and I've also done Burn Fat Boost Metabolism for a more cardio-oriented workout. It's circuit training - she gives you 30…
  • Ack. Double post, sorry. Just meant to add that I think the Egg McMuffin is "better" in terms of being a bit lower cal, but I'm not sure about protein, fiber, all that other stuff.
  • I had a plain old Egg McMuffin the other day - I think it's a bit better than the Sausage Egg McMuffin, nutrition-wise. If you like the sausage version better, why not? It won't kill you. McDonald's used to have a yummy (okay, my opinion) apple bran muffin - like 20 years ago. Does anyone remember them?
  • This is cool, thanks for sharing this!
  • Are you eating the same thing day in & out? Do you ever allow yourself a day off? I just wonder if some variety in your routine might revitalize you a bit. It's definitely worth sticking with.
  • I just love the use of the word "pants" as a mild expletive...
  • I can't pick what other people call their spouses, but 'hubby" does grate on me a bit. *shrug* When I talk TO my husband, I call him Babe, Hon, Sweetie, or other names that aren't polite but really are just as affectionate. Those names have histories behind them, therefore they have meaning behind them. Hm - guess that…
  • Recovered anorexic/bulimic here (last symptoms in 2005!), have lost my weight slowly/healthily. It can be done! With all cautiousness, respect, and compassion: It might be healthy to also add friends who have NOT had eating disorders/tendencies and have a longer history of healthier relationships with food/exercise. Not…
  • I love the confidence! You KNOW you'll need another size smaller soon! Good for you!
  • NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM...
  • Can I ask why? Haven't seen it but I want to. I like Natalie Portman (aside and apart from Queen Amidala, that is...)
  • Learn to knit/crochet. :) In all seriousness, it'll keep your hands busy while you're creating something, and it'll keep your mind occupied at the same time so you're not thinking about snacking. Worked for me - I make baby hats for a local neonatal intensive care unit. Okay, it doesn't hae to be knitting/crocheting. Just…
  • If I'm eating a veggie salad (and I mean all veggies - no cheese, croutons, etc) I don't log the veggies usually but I'll definitely log the salad dressing. I don't log my coffee in the morning but I definitely keep in mind the fact that the one creamer I add to it has 30 calories. Sometimes I don't log my dinner anymore.…
