  • Check / change the battery, too. When my digital scale starts doing funky things like that, changing the battery usually helps.
  • What worked for me is eating my exercise calories. It seems counter-intuitive, not everyone does it, etc, but again: it worked for me to eat MORE, not less.
  • Groups with like-minded individuals can be helpful - like having people w/ similar weight goals. I'm not part of the gay/lesbian community, but I'd imagine there are stressors there that can affect weight loss, so having a place to talk about those things may well be helpful. I like greyhounds. Having lots of people around…
  • Not lazy...my foot just works that way. I can walk "correctly" but it really, really wears out my foot after a while and can cause pain.
  • Her Burn Fat, Boost Metabolism as well as the No More Trouble Zones are also circuit training - 7 circuits of 6 minutes each on each DVD. I usually only make it through 30 minutes before i collapse.
  • I'm still logging - and my daily weight fluctuates like crazy! If I took it seriously I'd be really messed up some days. Still, I'd rather log my information and stay on track. It took too much work to get here to have to do it all over again!
  • I had a grilled chicken snack wrap from the Evil Empire today. It was pretty good! 250 calories of artifical tastyness. I still have a pulse.
  • The teacher needs to be on board w/ what you decide are consequences at home - your son can't think he has an "ally" against Mom, so to speak. Might be a good thing to sit down with his teacher (or teahers, if he has more than one) and talk about what's going on at home re: behavior and what you're trying to do for him…
  • Yup - this. Especially since my pants size has changed a bit since I joined MFP; it's nice to be able to replace my jeans for $3 a pair!
  • Knorr's Aromat seasoning. My husband introduced me to it. A little hard to come by, but YUMMY on veggies.
  • Another substitution: I wonder if plain nonfat yogurt would work instead of sour cream? (It's what I use when I want sour cream on a potato...just thinkin' me thinks here...)
  • For me it really is trial and error. I eat when I'm hungry! The thing is, I try to eat smart - a serving of almonds, for example, for the protein - or a bit of cheese, or SOMETHING filling. (I'm not terribly creative. There are lots of repeats in my food diary.) I change up my workout once in a while, too, so I'm not doing…
  • Dean Butler as Almanzo Wilder on Little House on the Prairie. Yeah, I know. :blushing: Next was Lee Montgomery from Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
  • Welcome and good luck to you! The best advice I can give is rather than try to lose X amount or to fit into X outfit by a certain date, just start NOW and work on exercising./changing your eating habits. You WILL see a change by the time you go to Paris, and you'll have established some healthy patterns that will stick…
  • Gary - wow. That's it. You're incredible.
  • "I hear you're losin' weight again Mary Jane...you ever wonder who you're losin' it for?"
  • Thanks. :) I think I'm doing the exercises right (arms straight when they're supposed to be, not bending my legs wonky when I'm not supposed to, etc. With the higher weights, though, I don't think I'm doing them as fully.
  • For me it was a *happy* marriage, not a bad one that got me here. DH and I eat out a lot because neither of us like to cook. Between that, nachos & beer during football games, cookies from the gas station for breakfast (!! but they're so GOOD!)...yeah. I'm surprised, frankly, not to have gained MORE weight than I did.
  • I'm sorry. :( Bad days come, but the good news is, they also go. You won't be in a funk forever. Can you take a quick, brisk walk? Re-read your goals as to why you're wanting to be healthy? Listen to a favorite song?
  • I'll take skinny over skeletal... I think we tend to read too much into what people are saying, really. Unless they're looking at me with a sneer on their face and saying "Ew," I try to just smile, say thanks, and move on.

  • I'll give you that, but there's a difference between having friends who help motivate you and keep you on track vs a friend/spouse/significant other who hounds you constantly and who all but tells you they won't love you if you don't lose weight or if you'll gain any more weight. That seemed to be what OP was saying.
  • You mentioned that YOU wanted to lose weight and complain about it to your boyfriend, which could mean he's trying to keep you on track at your request, but...wow. I can't imagine anything he's doing/saying is helping your self-worth at all. Is he at all complimentary when you lose a few pounds, eat healthy, have a…
  • Have you taken measurements? Are your clothes fitting differently? Don't rely solely on the scale. It's a good tool but it's not a perfect tool. A better one is, as i said, how your clothes are fitting. Also - by this time you've got to be getting more fit when it comes to working out. Pay attention - can you do more…
  • The grocery stores here (Copps and their affiliate) sells these dried veggies - they're all spiced up and I don't know what all they do to them, but a serving of something like 1/2 cup (I'm not remembering correctly, maybe it wasn't even that much) of their dried carrot snacks is something like 300 calories! YOWCH! You…
  • Do you have Aldi's where you're from? They have a version of it.
  • I pole-vaulted over my calorie limit this weekend with a little help from the local brewery (and my neighborhood bar and grill.) Okay, maybe a lot of help... :blushing: But it was FUN. I had a blast with DH and some new friends. Oddly enough, the numbers on the scale didn't change at all - but I was totally prepared for…

  • For a while, I was seeing the new me and LOVING it. Rockin' the size 10 jeans, enjoying my flat tummy, defined arms, etc. Now - I dunno, the shine has worn off and I'm not seeing the same things anymore. :noway: Not sure how to get that self-appreciation back.
  • I don't get weighed at the MD's office for this very reason. I'm always pleasant about it - i just tell them I'll tell them what my home scale said - but I won't step on their scale. I've never had anyone tell me that wasn't acceptable, or give me a really hard time about it.
  • You know, mirrors can lie to you, especially when you're in a bad mood. Step away from the mirror and concentrate on how the clothes actually fit. Are they *really* making you suck it in and leaving you breathless? If they weren't yesterday, they probably aren't today. You'll see it on the forum a lot - if food didn't…
