  • 1417 today, although I'm not doing well at losing weight, but my heart condition has something to do with that, I think. I don't give up!
  • Congratulations, Diane, and thank you very much for sharing this good news! Keep it up!
  • Thank you Alisa :) I don't know how to send you a friend request or I would.
  • Hi kbird! Good for you for starting, and for asking and offering encouragement! I wish you the best of luck. I'm 70 now and it's hard to lose weight at that age, especially with the Covid restrictions that keep us from going out with friends to do things. I haven't given up yet though -- hope springs eternal! :)
  • I'm sorry about your dad, Grayzer, but congratulations to you! Keep being brutally honest with yourself. As Shakespeare said, "to thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man".
  • Congratulations! That is serious hard work but it has serious rewards -- good for you for thinking and acting healthy!
  • Good for you girl! Keep it up, and next picture let's see a big smile! :)
  • Thank you for sharing. You look good in your pictures, but what's maybe more important is that you look happy. Good for you!
  • Pride ... I haven't reached my goal weight yet and I can't see the little ladybug on the road that used to show when I made a comment (I forget what it's called, but different people had different things to show their progress). Lots of people talk about losing weight making them happy, but what I'm surprised at is how…
  • Hi and welcome and good luck! I've lost 39 pounds since I started a little more than a year ago. I'm pleased with that and still working on it. There are 2 things I've found most useful here. One is the community support - you're talking to real people who are sometimes successful and sometimes not! I don't think any of us…
  • My bras no longer leave a red line under my bosom :) It's a small NSV, but it feels good, so I'm sharing. But ohmigosh, when I see all of your NSVs, big, serious, major NSVs - it makes me so happy to see other people triumphing and sharing so others can rejoice! Thanks to you all for passing on the good news!
  • WTG girl - you keep it up! And thank you very much for sharing - your success give such positive motivation!
  • I've added you as a friend! My latest thought about MFP is this: I am not doing this alone - I have a whole ARMY on my side! :)
  • If you're not sure how big something is, or what it weighs, some of the food listings here are more helpful than others. For example, there are a number of entries for 'bananas'. I use the one that describes a medium banana, 7 to 7-7/8". Then if I eat half of one that looks that size to me, I count half a banana. If it's a…
  • It's just a little NSV but it made me laugh, so I'm sharing ... BOTH cats were on my lap this morning. That's because my tummy is a little smaller and my lap is a little bigger! LOL!
  • Hi Mikey :) I haven't been part of MFP for long, but I am very grateful for the support and encouragement I've gotten here, and very grateful for the success stories people share. The stories and the pictures are inspirational and motivating. If your wife doesn't spend much time in MFP, could you do something like find a…
  • Ooooh girl, you are looking GOOD! Congratulations and thank you for sharing. I'm so glad a friend told me to try MFP because now I don't feel that I'm fighting a battle all by myself - I've got a whole ARMY on my side! Thanks again! Maggie
  • Hi Snudgie - good luck to you! I understand that you have problems to overcome more than just losing weight. I've had two broken ankles and a broken knee and all those joints are arthritic now, so exercise is not an easy thing. God bless the people here in MFP; what I would do without their success stories and…
  • Congratulations to you, and thank you very much for sharing your story. I'm recovering from blood clots in both lungs last summer and still have a long way to go. I was also run over by a car a dozen years ago and had both ankles and one knee broken, so it's not easy to get the exercise I need. I'm working on it though,…
  • I don't want to say just "congratulations, you all look wonderful", although that's an important thing to say. What I want to say more than anything is thank you for sharing, for posting your pictures and telling your stories. That motivation is very meaningful to those of us who have just started and can no longer…
  • I like to coat my chicken with breadcrumbs and bake it. I remove the skin and any fat I can see, dip it in water and then the breadcrumbs, and bake in a 350 oven. I make my own breadcrumbs by grating my dried bread crusts, so I know there's only whole-grain bread in it. I'm watching my sodium so I add spices other than…
  • I have made sandwiches, when I really desperately crave a sandwich, by cutting a regular slice of bread in half so there are 2 very thin slices. You have to have a bread knife for it to work, lol. Otherwise I've switched to matzos, for me the kind made only with flour and water so there's no salt. Can't make a sandwich of…
  • That's a good answer, Neander. Another part of today's problem is that for many people as they were growing up, sweet things were rewards. "If you eat all your vegetables, I'll give you a piece of cake for dessert." Or "if you clean your room I'll give you a cookie." The healthier way would be "dessert follows the main…
  • Garlic powder - or fresh ground pepper with grated frozen lemon :)
  • You're doing a great job, keep it up! My weight loss record since I joined Saturday, Feb 1st is 5 lbs, then 4 lbs, then 2, then 1, 1, 1, then 0, 0. But I haven't given up and I won't! I'm exercising too so I can feel muscles (itsy bitsy ones, lol). Like you, I'm much more aware of the nutritional content of my food and of…
  • Thank you all! I didn't know what an NSV was and now I do. It's only been 2 months and 14 lbs lost, but I've got an NSV: I can walk up a flight of stairs without using the handrail or leaning on the wall or stopping to get my breath.
  • hmmm think I used the "quote" wrong - oh well! This was what I meant to quote: "Just ignore the haters. As long as you can tell the difference between constructive criticism and ignorant hateful comments, you'll do okay. Whether you are trying to lose 1 pound or 200 pounds. Whether you are trying to be able to get out of a…
  • If you're having food that's made up of several different things, like spaghetti with meat sauce, you just put in the individual parts - so much spaghetti, so much tomato sauce, so much meat, so much mushroom or onion. If you make the same things over and over, then create a recipe. I've done that with some stews (easy to…
  • Congratulations on not having the soda - that's a step, and while it might feel like a baby step on a long journey, as long as it's a step going forward you're doing well! I promised myself when I joined MFP that I would be honest about the food I eat, even if it wasn't stuff that was good for me. So far - nearly 2 months…
