I was about to give some old clothes to charity and ended up keeping about half of them because of the way they fit. And this is one month into it all, and with evil TOM bloating. Try some old clothes on!

Yes, I went and bought some after the event! I remember getting a fresh cauliflower was much more expensive than frozen, so then we had all this frozen cauliflower that wouldn't fit in our pathetic excuse for a freezer compartment, then endless microwaving in a vain attempt to lose the water.... I'm sure all that time and…

Have a look around the forums for real, in depth reasons to lift. I'm also at my last few pounds to lose and also have an evil tummy. If you do it just with cardio you'll look like you, but a bit smaller (i.e. your belly will still be out of proportion) and you'll be losing lean, metabolism-boosting muscle mass with the…

I love Cassey Ho, but I can't eat like her! Way too joyless for me. After me and my partner spent an evening scrubbing burnt-on cauliflower pizza (which was delicious, btw) off a baking sheet we realised we'd never be as dedicated to super-clean eating as others are! Why not try a few recipes out, and incorporate the ones…

Daily diarrhoea isn't normal for anyone, let alone the obese. I have IBS, but only knew once the doctor diagnosed it. Once I get an attack I have to just eat what I want to - going 'healthy' only makes the problem worse for me. Please see your doctor!

Me too!

Yep. Without MFP I would have never even heard about 'New Rules of Weight Lifting' and would've been stuck in some cardio/1200 timewarp hell forever. Or at least months of trial and error. So thanks, MFP!

I am in a committed polygamous relationship with my kettlebell and my foam roller.

^^^THIS. What's with all the dodgy advice on this thread?

You need carbs. These people you know may have lost a bunch of weight, but they are going to gain a bunch of weight once they go back to their old eating habits. Perhaps think about limiting your carb intake rather than elimination. How's about combining that salad with half the amount of pizza you'd normally have? What's…

My breasts only stopped growing at 25 (DD). At your age I was a C cup. Don't sweat it!

You can have bread whenever you like! As long as you are eating at a deficit of your maintenance calories you'll lose weight.
-
I use Daily Burn at home. It's got a good variety of workouts and excellent trainers. First month is free so you can always try that!

I cook most of my meals, so I get to control how much sodium I eat. But I'm a freelancer with time on her hands so that may not be an option for you.

Hi! I'm in the same boat. Eating at a 300 cal deficit of my TDEE and kettlebelling three days per week, with yoga and mobility workouts on rest days. It's giving me plenty of cardio. Feeling stronger and tighter already. Lost 3lbs and an inch off the waist, belly and hips in less than a month.

Swimming!

Another vote for kettlebells. You're using your core (your whole body, really), lifting heavy and getting a cardio workout. BOOM.

In for the salad and (small amount of) garlic bread to mop up all the lasagne. Buon gusto!

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm 5' 4" and started here almost a month ago at 135lbs - and while there's no way that's overweight I certainly avoid wearing clothes that are tight round the belly for fear of looking pregnant too! During my three years at drama school, I was told on a weekly basis by my movement teacher…

Hey - I built 1% of lean muscle in 3 weeks at a deficit! ;) You're probably right, OP could be 'breaking even' and maintaining muscle (and the water retention that can accompany it) rather than losing or gaining.

Muscle weighs more than fat. Tape measure and camera will track the changes in your body more accurately than the scale will.
-
Cutting to the chase... Remember, you're only 5lbs away from your goal weight, weight loss from calorie deficit alone is going to slow down, esp as having muscle speeds up your metabolism. I'm eating at my maintenance calories, minus 300 calories, making it a minimum of 1661 when not doing my kettlebells workout. There is…

Hi! I also know the misery of trying to eat well on a tight budget. If you need a break from the MaccyD's and you're near a farmer's market then check out Jack Monroe's recipes. She's an anti-poverty campaigner here in the UK. Her recipes are really healthy and they usually come in at under a dollar for a portion.…

Battlestar Galactica! What sort of nerd collector are you?

You didn't say 'single' though, did you? Can we have some BSG too, please?

I'm afraid it's tough love on the MFP forums! A 17lbs loss in a month is incredible - at the rate you're going you won't be obese for that long!
-
If you've got no willpower over the weekend I'd go with that! You'll need to do it safely though - you don't want to be starving yourself during the week to live for the weekend. In time you're going to have to learn how to indulge in moderation, as it were, if you want good habits to form. All the best to you!

Apart from getting physiotherapy I'd say a foam roller and a tennis ball are your best friends. I sometimes suffer from sciatica and have found stretching out the hip flexors and rolling out the piriformis muscle (either with the foam roller or tennis ball) to be of great benefit. There's some good stuff here…
