  • Whatever you decide to do do it slow. Build up to that 30 minutes. And, Chris, whey protein is perfectly fine for recovery. Its what I been using for 10 months now and I have great results.
  • I did it for the chickens. I was eating a piece of leftover turkey the day after Thanksgiving when I was watching Food, Inc. Saw what they were doing to the poor things and couldn't in good conscience eat meat anymore. But I never thought I would fall in love with vegetables. And the elliptical. And the Bowflex. And…
  • Vegetable chips!
  • I would say I run as much as you and I would say three or four "cheat meals" a week should be fine for maintenance. Though I would stop calling them cheat meals and just enjoy yourself with your friends.
  • I don't know. I always felt that real happiness comes from within. When I realized who the person I really wanted to be was, the rest just came organically. Or divine intervention. Being healthy is not just physical, it's a state of mind. That's been said many times already.
  • What's the point? The point is to get healthy. That's the whole point! Its great to see how others succeeded in their journey and get inspiration from it but honestly, in the end you really are kind of doing this alone. No one else can walk that mile for you. But when you finish that mile, and the next, and the next, you…
  • Ive read different things. 10 or 15 minutes of brisk walk after meals is what some recommended. Then there is this stuff. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/11/18/quick-exercises_n_4297834.html But honestly, all the little stuff add up if you really dont have time. Like standing instead of sitting at work or at home.…
  • I say do whatever you want as long as you keep moving. Safety first, of course.
  • I think its normal for many to feel that way. It is a bit of a shock. Just focus on eating healthier rather than loosing weight. And the slower you lose the weight the less likely you are to gain it back. Do you enjoy running at all?
  • Congratulations! Actually enjoying the workouts is such an incredible thing and makes everything else that you are doing that much easier.
  • The only calories I kept track of was junk food. I tried to limit those but not get rid of completely. I knew myself and was completely realistic about that fact. Other than that, no you dont have to count calories as long as most of your diet is whole foods. You have to keep in mind that what works for some people may not…
  • It's not a bad idea getting rid of refined sugar if you can manage it. Personally, I never felt I had to. The teas I been drinking lately have been so good that sugar would just ruin it. But no way am I giving up fresh fruit. I dont think that is very healthy.
  • Try not to let their negativity get you down. I eat chocolate and cookies all the time and It hasnt affected my diet. The occasional treat is part of what makes the change to a healthy lifestyle a success.
  • Running shoes is one area you shouldnt skimp on. Get the best you can afford after you get fitted.
  • I dont remember having any withdrawls to tell you the truth. But I run enough that I dont worry about what I eat very much. The shakes I make in the morning for my workouts helped a ton. Nothing really special about them. Fresh fruit and whey protein in a blender. Its important to see food as nothing more than nutrition.…
  • Going through all these threads...wow, just wow. Do you really devote this much attention to what you eat? I mean it sounds so daunting.
  • I couldn't agree with you more. My sister and I often discuss weight loss. She is trying to shed a few pounds and she is frustrated about what to eat. I try to always remind her that its just food and not to worry so much about what to eat. It's just food. Its nutrition. Just nutrition. I have been where so many of these…
  • Tea helped me all but get rid of table sugar for good. Teavana stuff is so incredibly tasting that you don't really want to ruin the taste with sugar. It's a bit of on the expensive side compare to other teas but still cheaper than cans of sodas.

  • When I first went vegetarian I ate a lot of portabella mushrooms. And beans. But I just wasnt eating enough to sustain my physical activity and my blood work came back all screwed up. Adding a multivitamin and whey protein sorted me out. Protein from low fat dairy is also great.
  • That's not enough calories for breakfast. Try couple of eggs and fresh fruit for breakfast. Or oatmeal and fruit. Low fat dairy is great too! Realistically, you want to keep your breakfast at around 500 or 600 calories with lots of protein in it. That will more than keep you going until lunch. I get food prepared ahead of…
  • Mondays and Tuesdays are my off days. Couple of weeks off a year to recover. Kind of off anyway. Since you just started then start again. But do it very slowly. 10 or 15 minutes a day every other day. Add a minute or two every other week. And if you find yourself just not liking a particular exercise then try something new.
  • When I started my little adventure October of 2012 I was honest with myself. Im not giving up sweets altogether. Ill cut down a lot but Ill be realistic. As I used to be hooked on drugs pretty bad in the past it became sort of easy to recognize some the addiction from some of the sweets I was eating. A couple of months ago…
  • Like some of the people have said find an exercise that you love. And yes, it is possible. Try as many as you need and don't assume you will hate something before you even try it. All I need to be happy these days is a trail and a playlist. Doing my first marathon in October, God willing!
  • You sound a lot like my friend. At times. And she is about to graduate in May. While she isnt working right now she does have two kids to manage. And she gets just as stressed out as you. Its perfectly normal. As far as the cake goes...so what? Its not the end of the word. Sometimes we just need to let loose and do…
  • Working the overnight shift is extremely hard on your body for a variety of reasons. I been doing that once a week for the past month but it's not a permanent thing. That said, I made the mistake of changing my food habit for the first day and it was pretty disruptive to my system. The next few times it was fine. As far as…
  • If you're hungry, then eat. Fresh fruit or vegetables will do the trick. Eat those anytime 20 or 30 minutes after you at your mind will register that you aren't hungry anymore.
  • I got great results just adding fruit to regular whey protein before and after my morning run/cross training. Pretty balanced diet. Tons of energy throughout the day. But its all in your mind, really. If you think it will help, it will. Personally, I dont think its worth the price since its little more than whey protein…
