yes there is no such thing as targeted-site-specific weight loss. life long runners will often have this tendency. If you stopped running your leg muscles may reduce, but you'd also reduce the incredible mental and cardiovascular benefits of running. Caloric deficits also lead to a reduction in mass. I have found…

I have been weighing and logging for a while now, and I go through cut/bulk cycles but generally speaking live at maintenance...for me, I eat a LOT of nut butters, and no matter how long I go for, I am not great at estimating those. Further, I have found in the past that when I DONT weigh, I will tend to overestimate (most…

carrots (whole big ones) heirloom tomatoes (eat like an apple), apples, nut butters, medjool dates, nuts....

I love this debate. While I think that the market for alcohol should be free and people should participate in it as they please, as someone who lives in a metropolitan area, I find that much of the social behavior/activity is alcohol-centric. The idea of going for drinks is the most basic and go-to plan. I have lots of…

Now that you are at a goal weight, or a healthy weight, you should get your blood work and blood pressure tests redone, and evaluate if veganism is the right choice for you. There are many successful vegans out there who live happy and healthy lives, but some people, especially women, do experience a burnout after several…

1 vote for garlic naan (or CHEESEY garlic naan, so not authentic but they have it at my local dig and omg...) Indian = maintenance week or aggressive deficits for next few days...so, yeah just maintenance week.

The data is all aggregated, and so while we can get small studies that show us more about what makes certain people successful, and the NWCR shows us data on the behaviors of successful people - there is a lot to be said about the geographic region, socioeconomic status, race, ACE score, etc. etc, that all can tie into how…

I think especially in our culture right now (in the U.S.), there's this weird cross between thinking people should look a certain way (thin, fit)- combined with fighting that norm with body positivity and a kind of anti-diet movement. I think that there are people in my generation (20's 30's) who would be embarrassed to…

most days ZERO, today...400 in beer...so I'll be eating light and high protein rest of day.

Lala land indeed. I mean it really depends. Do you want to look good on December 17 but you are ok if you gain a lot of weight back by January 1? does it HAVE to be 50 pounds? Are there people who lose weight quickly and keep it off? sure. And there are people who win olympic medals and who discover new planets, but I…

it sounds like not only should you * definitely * be doing your own grocery shopping, but also, maybe it is time to set some boundaries with this friend/housemate of yours. Setting those boundaries may empower you even more to take charge of your own health!

I would buy noise cancelling head phones- you literally won't hear people when they start trying to talk to you, THEN, when they poke you or something be like "oooh I'm so sorry! I wear noise cancelling head phones because I really appreciate silence and getting in my zone when I'm working out" - then they will recognize…

-- I agree to a T- once I realized that one snack or day or whatever wasn't sabotaging everything, I was successful and stopped getting mad at myself

add ins include but are not limited to: egg whites, peanut butter chips, carob chips, chocolate chips, banana, cinnamon, dates, raisins, cashew butter, almond butter, peanut butter, candied pecans, nuts of any kind (not all of this at the same time!) I usually pick a couple and try to keep it under 450 cals, always steel…

maybe take a week off? just a week? or even two...1528, it is something to be proud of, but it is also completely arbitrary, a number on a website that has nothing to do with your self-value, joy, humanity. MFP will be here when you get back, you don't have to "splurge" or go crazy but you can take a little time off,…

What type of workouts are you doing (time spend, exertion, exercises done?) and what is your caloric intake? Are you eating back your exercise calories? This all will help us give you better advice. Have you been successfully meeting your goals?

one person's modest is another persons best, we could all relativize ourselves to olympians and perhaps many of us would feel a bit lame if we did. I'm sure there are some awesome folks out there reaching their best while walking the dog.

Use your diary as a resource - I will often go back in time (months) and look at what I logged when I was cutting, bulking, maintaining. It helps me gauge what I was eating at times of great success, and serves as a reminder for different snacks or meals or recipes or food products that I really liked or were my go-to's…

The thing that has helped me the most is liking me NOW, liking the me before I get to my goal, not just liking the goal me in my head, and not liking the current me. Whenever I was unsuccessful, it was because when I had a hiccup, it made me feel like a failure. Now, if I have a hiccup, it doesn't matter, because I really…

I'm not sure what your goals are, but if your goal is to lose weight, then bananas and peanut butter over creamy ice cream is fairly arbitrary. If you are looking to eat less processed foods, then maybe the banana is the way to go. That being said, your sugar intake may assist you in how you feel and your energy levels,…

turmeric's active ingredient is circumin, which is an anti-inflammatory. I use it instead of ibuprofen and it helps with inflammation and injuries that I tend to get from my workout regimen. If you have any back/joint/inflammation issues i'd recommend it.

in Thailand I saw some folks grilling them! always seemed to work...

good luck to you! i have found that counting works best for me...if you ever do go back to it, I would recommend getting a bunch of little tupperwares and pre-weighing a bunch of snacks, like, weigh out 10 different packages of one serving of nuts, so that you have them ready for work and you don't just go for something…

i set mine to -.5 lb for week and this gives me enough cals that with exercise cals its rare to go in the red...but i keep it up this high even as my "ceiling" so to speak, and sometimes i go lower *lately I don't!*

they actually aren't free, you are paying with them in your membership! so best you utilize what you are paying for. Classes are great to round you out, we all get stuck in our routines, they can teach you new exercises. Yoga is so not my thing but every now and then i'll go to a class and it will feel great

Larb!

Great post- I would love it if you posted back in a few weeks to let us know how long it lasted, how many cals you ate per day, and what the cost per day was.
