  • Alright. SL's first and then whatever I can fit in, meaning in an hours time, right?
  • For further clarification, my full bodywork out with dumbells included DB squats and DB deadlifts and DB rows. I dropped those from the workout when I started SL as I felt it was essentially a repeat of the same lifts.
  • Yes. I started with bodyweight. Added my dumbell full body workout. Then a couple weeks later added SL. NOW, I am not exhausted by any means when I am done. I tried just doing bodyweight and SL together and felt, under worked. I rarely have DOMS, and on off days feel like I should still be lifting. Is this common for…
  • You look amazing! I'm am totally inspired!!!
  • I personally struggled with balance and keeping my heels on the floor while squatting. Suggestions here stated to try a box squat. I found a 5 gallon bucket and stuck it behind my bum and widened my stance a bit and doing much better. I probably used the 5 gallon bucket for about 2 weeks, until I felt confident I wasn't…
  • In the last month I have found and purchased our home gym for under $1000 and found it all on craigslist and our local FB classifieds. I now have a Home Gym power rack/squat rack/smith machine, bench, Oly bar and weights. An additional bench, OLY bar and 300lbs weight. A weight machine. A gazelle edge. And a Bowflex bench/…
  • Now see. That sounds great. And maybe I should be at 1000 calorie deficit IDK. I stalled at 1200 calories. So I read and figured my TDEE which was higher. Did that. Lost a lb. Gained back 2. So maybe I should drop to 1309-1400 calories a day and weigh everything
  • Yes, I get that. Just very frustrating to actually start in January expecting to meet a goal of losing 50lbs or at least look like it by June and then realize after a month of no change that it is definitely not going to happen.
  • Ok. Food scale it is. :)
  • Ugh. No food scale, but generally round up. If I eat veggies at 3/4 cuo I round up to a cup and also think my TDEE is a lil low. I know, I know buy a food scale but the pessimist in me says I am just goung to try that avenue and its not going to work either. Part of me says to just chuck it all, eat what I want and compete…
  • Last night I did body weight before SL and some accessory like my tricep extensions afterwards. I feel I really got a good workout in and the squats were easier to do after warming up with my bodyweight so thanks ladies!
  • Thanks Ladies. That makes perfect sense so I will try that and see how it goes. I will do SL and bodyweight and then my walking on my off days.
  • I'm only a week into MFP. I have been moderately overweight my whole life and recently hit my highest weight. I pretty much had just given up and used my Grave's disease as an excuse. I have done both low fat and low carb diets. I now stick with a relatively low carb diet, modeled off of Atkins but with my own tweaks. I…
  • You look amazing and give me inspiration!
  • Looking up all this stuff on you tube. Thanks!
  • I can do squats with dumbells fine, so it is frustrating to me, but I think I will just keep trying and move along as I can. Great advice! Thanks!
  • Thanks. So does that mean I can't start at all on strong lifts, or is it really just better to wait until I have my squat down? Thanks in advance.
  • I too have Graves along with PCOS and battling a never ending weight battle. I too was following 1200 calories and Atkins, or a slight modification of it, along with weight training. I am a noobie to the sight, but so far what I have read indicates 1200 WOULD be too low depending on height and weight. I plugged in my…
  • I do Atkins for weight loss as well as what I now consider an Atkins Mod to adjust to what I can and can't tolerate. I have PCOS and extremely insulin resistant so Atkins and extremely low carb is the only way I can lose weight. I also attribute 3 of my 4 pregnancies to doing Atkins. Every time I did it hard core it…
  • Congrats!! I too suffer from PCOS. My kids are 20,10,8 & 4. For that 10 yr gap I couldn't get pregnant mno matter what. DX was secondary infertility due to PCOS. I went on Atkins for a year and became pg. After 2nd child was born went on Atkins to lose baby weight and became pg again, total surprise. So when wanting my…
  • Following..... I started a regular total body workout a few weeks ago. I too am interested in more along the strong lifts. Somewhere there is a group for strong lifts I just read yesterday which was real informative with a breakdown of the actual way to start.
  • I am not crying in front of my kids. They are already off to school. :) I am not perfect but I also don't do a lot of things that have been suggested, such as make comments to my kids, or talk or obsess about my weight in front of them. Sometimes things just roll down to the bottom of the hill, and that is where I am at. I…
  • So seems my venting opened a complete different avenue of where I was going. 1. I don't tell my son he is overweight. I encourage healthy eating AND balance. 2. I do feel it is important to let my daughter know she isn't going to go try to lift weights at her age, or work out on the gazelle with no food in her system. 3. I…
  • Haven't done my food diary yet. All honesty this last week, I barely ate at all with everything going on. I know its an excuse but it is the one I am sticking to. I am 43. Started atkins for the umpteenth time on 1/26. Lost 16 lbs by 2/14 and now nothing. I started exercising right out the gate and decided lifting weights…
  • Thanks for your response. Seems the girls became obsessed about weight when I started my journey to losing weight, becoming healthy and fit. The exact opposite of what I was trying to accomplish. I suppose a little background would help. I am a big build type of girl at 5'8. My childrens father is a big guy too topping out…
