My best advice would be to quit cold turkey. I have been a smoker since high school and am in my forties now. I have quit a few times in the past for extended periods. (5 years, 3 years) I ended up going back to it each time because of some high stress event in my life like divorce. I had tried the patch, nic gum, e-cigs,…

I found reducing sugar intake to under 30grams and increasing fiber to over 30grams while sticking to a 500 calorie deficit each day works wonders. It's extremely tough to follow but really works and you see results quickly. Good luck!

I found this while reading an article this morning and remembered this post. Hope this add to the discussion. Fancy coffee drinks from trendy coffee joints often pack several hundred calories, thanks to whole milk, whipped cream, sugar, and sugary syrups. A cup of regular coffee with skim milk has just a small fraction of…

I have also had a history of high triglycerides. For me it's my sugar intake. I have a goal of less than 30g of sugar per day and I try to get as much fiber as possible (over 25g). This combination has worked wonders and dropped my Triglycerides to a normal level along with my total cholesterol. It's really hard to adjust…

Go to a running store and have them fit you to a shoe. Have them explain why they picked that shoe for you. Typically running shoes come in two basic variations. Neutral shoe and Support shoe. depeds on your arch and your stride. Once you know the type that best fits your foot, you can online shop or go to your local…

Try your best to stay off the meds. I had a bad reaction with Crestor and Lipitor. My body just doesnt like the statins. My doc prescribed me fish oil called Lovaza. That along with a better diet and much more exercise helped lower me to normal levels. But over the holidays (Thanksgiving-New Years) I didnt do too good with…

Some suggestions 1: Stretch before and after you run. Not only your legs but your back, shoulders, and arms. 2: Run with your elbows at a 90 degree angle hands in front of you 3: Keep your head up and your shoulders back (look at the horizon, not hunched over and looking down) 4: Relax and enjoy a comfortable pace. Post…

Because you can find a negative for pretty much any activity you want. Not certain your motivation for even doing the research and posting this information in the first place. So sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my dad in May 2010 to Cancer. I have turned my life around since then. Stopped smoking, and starting eating better, lost some weight, etc. I'm sorry I waited so long to start but sometimes it takes a tragedy to wake us up to the blessing that life truly is. I have learned to fight…
